We are talking from afar - but an undamaged Stringer was at least worth the Beams price (5,20ish, Crisp) which was a negotiation with one nominated club with no other suitors. A Top ten or 11 pick was the discounted price.

Our management of this process has been highly questionable:

1 - Media management - fail. This starts with Barrett. We may get satisfaction that Bev physically confronted Bev but we unneceesarily made an enemy for life of one of the most infuential journos. Also failed to predict and counteract media bias

2 - failed to market Stringer discreetly and effectively to gauge and build multi club interest

3 - failed to foresee and defuse the Abby bomb. Given Abby's love of public sharing and Stringer's alleged treatment of her - the PR disaster was completely predictable and preventable.

4 - failed to communicate effectively with Jake to the extent he was blindsided and became bitter. (Even if he is dumb as dogshit we still needed to get our message across to him effectively)

5 - failed to manage the player manager effectively to the extent that he went rogue.

6 - bluffed on takin Stringer back. Laughable failure.

Really ordinary performance
Don't understand what the club could have done about the Abby article? The cheating and gambling was a well know problem anyway.

Interviews after the trade asked Dodo if they were linked to Schache and he shook his head with an emphatic, "Nah". I'd say they were probably spoken to by Brisbane regarding pcik 25, would they honer the trade with he dogs so Brisbane would get that pcik. Media took it as Bombers offering Lions 25 for Schache.

I just met with Essendon footy club and gave them shit about the stringer deal (and copped some back) and I'm assured they were indeed very very keen on Schache. Wanted O'Meara in his year as well.

...they also all think Dodo is a bigheaded flog internally but f'ing good as his job and are concerned he'll be even more bigheaded after this trade period. They took photos with stringer at the club on sat or sun (can't remember which) they were that confindent they would get him!

If anybody is still concerned about us trading away our 2nd next year, I'd just remind people that we have 19 players coming out of contract next year. Four of these will be RFAs: Libba, Dahl, Rough and Wallis. Two others: Wood and Picken come out of contract a year or two later but are essentially 10 year players. I certainly don't want to sound a doom-sayer but if any of these have poor seasons next year, trading scenarios will certainly open up.

Personally haven't seen a lot of him. But I've seen enough of JMacs talent identification to make me wonder.
Again this is too simplistic imo. Surely Jmac is not the only, single person involved in talent identification. Surely we have a whole team for that sort or thing, it's pretty damn important. Surely Dal had a massive input on Schache, he was in the draft only what, 2 years ago?

And tbf Jmacs talent identification isn't that bad, just his ability to get the trades done on our terms sucks ass, to put it nicely. I'm not his biggest fan by Any means, but I think he was never given a chance with the Stringer situation.

The carlton trade overall was crap but like Mutt pointed out before it's a different story in the room. Time was running out, Carlton knew we had to deal, everybody knew we had to deal we were pretty much just open to cop it from all angles, and I don't think that's neccessarily his fault by Any means.

Personally I'd be looking to move Jmac into an AFL level scout type role (picks like Biggs and Hamling were fantastic pick ups literally no one else in the league saw). I think he's very good at this. But he's no negotiater, we needa get someone else in to do this. A hard ass type who won't take shit, it's just too important with the spot were in right now, good players depth or even best 22 are going to be targeted every single year, and if we can't get value for em it'll kill us. Jmac is not the man for that job.

you just met with Essendon football club?... sorry but what does that even mean.

Could we potentially just pay the contract out its only one year at $200k? I know that it still gets included in the cap but does it free up a spot?
Cloke provides value as a mentor, really solid guy. I want him to stay with us next year even if he doesn't play seniors very often.
