Treloar has only racked up 35 games and 800 odd disposals in under 2 seasons for us.

Very astute of the Pies to give him to us for nothing and pay $300k pa of his salary. What were we thinking.

Wowee 20 disposals a game! Maybe 10 effective per game. Doesn't justify the 600k we are paying him. That the Pies are still paying him some of the backended deal is irrelevant really. It's like when a store makes up a recommended retail price so you think you're getting a discount.

Yup! Treloar has been brilliant for most of his time with us.

In what world is Bont, Macrae, Libba, Dunks, Baz & Treloar not an elite midfield,
for people saying it’s overrated honestly which midfield is better? It’s the best top liners and it’s best by an absolute mile for depth. Midfield talent is not the problem.

In the world where they haven’t had a decent ruck to feed them

This off-season we are going to need a snow globe moment. The players who need to go are those who are not going to get better or get back to their best or are ready for replacement.

And before any howls of derision, I love JJ, Toby, Hunter, and Cordy but the reality is none of them are in our top 10 players any longer.

Delist: JJ, Schache, Butler, Toby, Cordy
Trade: Hunter
Retire: Martin, Wallis

Unfortunately, the compo if the de-listings sign elsewhere won't be great, and Hunter won't get us a lot (maybe a 3rd rounder) other than a salary dump and list spot.

Acquire: Lobb, Jones
Re-Sign: Dunkley`, McComb*, Parker, Smith, West, Duryea, Garcia

` The only player with some currency if he doesn't re-sign, as I think Smith and West will
* I'd rather we didn't but seems a Bevo fave

In the draft we need to be searching for a KPD plus a range of next generation players right across the park. An Easton Wood replacement would be helpful.

So our 2023 best 22 will look something like this:
FB: Dale, Keath, Jones
HB: VDM, Darcy, Richards
C: Treloar, Libba, Smith
HF: West, Naughton, Garcia
FF: Cody, Bruce, JUH
R: English, Bont, Macrae
I: Lobb, Daniel, Duryea, Dunkley

E: Gardner, Khamis, Williams, Cleary

And pray for a season with a good run injury-wise because there is not much quality depth thanks to spending almost our entire draft hand on one player two years in a row (which I fully agree was the right thing to do).

VDM at half back over Daniel? Jeepers.

Treloar isn't even playing mid anymore because he is so cooked. He's lost his acceleration, which was his main weapon. His kicking and handballing are both atrocious.

Delist Toby because he isn’t in the top 10 players any more....

Umm what.

At least we won’t have a bottom 6 at AFL level anymore considering 75% of the list would be disposed of.

Overreactions are the worst things clubs can do after a GF loss. Our defensive structures for starters and at a more extreme level Adelaide training camps.

Toby has had two knee recos. Is he going to be get back to his best? I would argue he is not best 22 any longer and can't get a game ahead of someone like McComb.

Being in the starting 18 versus being on the bench is redundant in the modern game given rotations. VDM and Daniel will both play there along with Richards.

You obviously rate him in that role over Daniel to have him starting though?

Can understand if it’s 2 of Daniel, Richards, Richards with the 3rd on the bench. I haven’t seen enough in VDM’s game to think he’d be as good as those 3 in the role.

What’s the appeal for you?

Speed of half back is the key for me. Something we haven’t had since JJ moved out of that position. VDM and Daniel are different types of players anyhow.

I think that both our coach and midfield have been overrated at times. It's nothing to do with protecting Bevo. I don't like his gameplan and I don't think he's tactically or strategically a great coach. He is also one of the architects of our list build and so he is responsible for it's deficiencies. But I don't think we have ever had a great list under Bevo. The midfield has been the strongest part of the list but it isn't as good as Melbourne's, in my opinion.
Our midfield is poorly coached not overrated.

We see a lot more pace now that Richards is there. Dale contributes a lot of quick rebound through his foot skill also.

Apart from his speed, I don’t think VDM offers much else. He lacks composure and his decision making is pretty poor.

You never know though though, Dale was probably spoken about similarly (his weaknesses) prior to his move. But, I just don’t see VDM getting a run there anytime soon with the other 3 still playing pretty good footy.

Well fair enough, we all see it differently. Stats are a bit out though.

Actually going at 27.6 disposals a game this year (behind only Macrae and Baz), and 73% efficiency (so around 20 effective per game).

Last year was over 25 per game.

Playing forward, mid or back, inside or out as needed. Probably top 5 in the b&f or thereabouts, very comfortably justifying the $600k for mine.

Even if we bring in Jones and Darcy somehow becomes a best 22 mainstay over one off-season, we still need another solid defender and a physical ruck to go with English. Next year is going to be our 5th year with an iffy ruck division that gets opened up every week.

Hearing whispers that Goldstein will be at the kennel next year to replace Stef Martin.

Best we can hope for is Lobb,
to at least give us a decent ruck option all day between English & him. A big physical ruckmen is never gonna happen unfortunately
