Players who are leaving, with the exceptions of retirement, don’t go to the B&F. I don’t expect to see Dunks there.

He is still contracted and one of the expectations is all players attend B&F

It’s all about been a professional

I certainly wouldn’t want to go if I was him but given he’s probably favourite to win it should be interesting
Not gonna pass up a last opportunity for the Melbourne stylist...already seen an ad in the the Brisbane classifieds for someone to fill the role...

He didn’t look very comfortable sitting at the Brownlow with the team, and that was before it was officially announced, although the players would have known.

After the elimination final, when he was reported as crying in the rooms afterwards, do you think that was when he told them?

Lobb is better than Schache & Sweet
Jones is better than Gardner
Tomilson is better than Cordy
Rowe is better than McComb

As long as they perform barring injury and Bevo stops playing favourites and players are played in their actual positions we can’t say our team won’t be better off with the players coming in next season..

Would love another young KPD and hard nosed small defender as well though

Geelong have also just gone 20-4 with the oldest team ever in the AFL the obsession with how old some of the players we’re looking to recruit is ridiculous.. our best players are 25 if we’re going to top up now is the time while we’re actually in the window.
It depends. We have way too many players on the list over 25 who are not genuinely best 22 and should be at the peak of their powers. Crozier, Wallis, Cordy, Hannan, Scott, O'Brien, McComb, Roarke etc.

Having an older list is fine if they are contributing best 22 players but we seem to have a lot that aren't.

FFS, GARD-I-NER.

We already have Gardner...

Sorry, but this is really starting to get me....
Plus he's not a KPD, he's Ryan Hargraves' height. Good organiser thought, like our former captain Brad Boyd

We are adding two guys who will be 30 & 32 by the time next season rolls around.
That's enough for one trade period.
I hope we take two first rounders to draft this year

I’m sure we will which will bring our grand total to 4 players over 30 compared to 11 at Geelong who have contended for how many years now? Our average age is just blown out by a 35 year old Martin who still may not be on the list next year..

We lack mature bodies on the ground it’s only going to make us a stronger side next year IF we don’t have to deal with another season of Bevo playing players out of their natural positions and let’s our players play to their natural strengths

Caro just said she’d heard Dunkley’s view (which he shared with the clubs he spoke to) was there was a group on our list that was serious about winning it and a group that wasn’t.

The thing is, he’s a premiership player who played in a second grand final a year ago after knocking out the very two sides he spoke to, both of which have dubious finals records. What exactly does he think he’ll find there that’s different?

If he was weighing Geelong and Sydney I’d get his point.
That explains why he wanted to go to Essendon!
He just wants to play for a team where everyone is pulling in the same direction.
Makes perfect sense now.

I’d argue the opposite. These fringe players are easily delisted and replaced if they aren’t useful. I’d be much more concerned if our A graders were all the wrong side of 30.

It hurts to have someone like Dunks choose to leave, but i think its actually a good thing for our list. Garcia, West, Mclean, Smith, hell even Treloar was played at half back.... We have had a problem of too many mids and not being able to give opportunities to the next gen types. I have real faith that West will go hammer and tongs this pre season knowing there are mid minutes available and potentially could be an upgrade on dunkley.... on top of that we will get some good draft hand in return to boost the future.

Players leave clubs all the time, it doesn't mean ours is a toxic environment because 1 bloke is leaving. Neale left freo, judd left west coast (ok maybe that was toxic lol), jackson is leaving melbourne, lockett left st kilda and buddy left the hawks.

We will be ok.

The biggest concern by a long way is not our list, its getting some bloody good assistants in the door to sort bevo out.

Excellent post 👍

It’s his trajectory that’s important. Each year he takes another step forward. He’s getting better and better. Yeah he has some s**t weeks and gets beaten in the ruck by someone he shouldn’t but damn he has a much more rounded game than t about any ruck other than Gawn. We might be a critical bunch on BigFooty but just about any other team in the comp would prefer English over their starting ruck. There’s a reason the commentators were (earlier in the season before concussion) debating whether English will (in time) usurp Gawn as the premier ruck in the comp.

I think the issue some people have (well, I have) is that it's a position where you can't really have those shit weeks because the team is reliant on you to perform consistently. It's an exposed position because you can't have another player in your area play well and cover for your deficiencies. If you're getting beaten in the centre and/or in ruck contests around the ground consistently your team is going to suffer.

He has undoubtedly improved, and like most of us I hope he can continue to do so. I also think there's no doubt he's been affected by concussion/injury in the last couple of years at crucial times. But if one of those shit weeks comes in finals (which it has on a few occasions, to the extent that less experienced players have been asked to chop out at critical points in the game) then the team is in trouble.

Bottom line is if he sees himself as principally a first ruck, rather than a second ruck/KPF (where I'd argue he's played his best footy, at least in that short stretch at the beginning of last season) then he has to stand up and do it consistently sooner rather than later. He'll turn 26 during next season and should hit his 100th game, so hopefully time for development to turn into consistent performance.

The weird part is he apparently cites players not being serious as a reason to leave, but speaks to the three clubs we rolled on the way to a grand final. 🤡
