Where would a compo pick for Tim English fall if he leaves as a free agent considering we don't actually have a first round pick? After our original pick?
Yes, band one compo falls after the first round pick tied to the clubs ladder position, regardless if you still hold the pick or not.

So as it stands;

After we use 4, our remaining picks are 38, 46, 51, 67, 70 & 73 - 1172 points

A Croft bid at (say) 15 will cost us 890 to match.

So a little wriggle room to pay for maybe Harmes and Coffield, with Sweet cancelling out part of the cost.

Hopefully Lual gets outside 40, we get him too, maybe go into a slight deficit?

Is that about the general consensus as to expectations/a reasonable outcome?

Kane Macauliffe as a mid who has slid for no huge reason other than he doesn't get as many possessions as the other elite mids he can play and is a tough in and under who tackles mid
Had a neat sidestep when I watched him earlier in the year.

He's slow as treacle so will slide, but George Stevens trained with us too.

Hopefully there's a 19 year old with "quick hands" playing Frankston seconds.
I'd also take Mannagh in the draft as well. He should be on a list. Can play HF too so not purely a VFL-mid

So if we finish 8th, that will give us pick 10 which GC now have. Does that mean we will have pick 11 in this scenario?

Question for everyone: what pick would the F1 need to end up being for you to be happy with the trade?

50-ish.... ?! 😆

Seriously, so many moving parts. Regardless of the number it ends up being, GC or anyone they trade it to could pick a Bont.... or a Tim Walsh, Paddy McCartin/etc so who knows. The number ends up being irrelevant IMO.

I was just thinking that Essendon could use another shortish front-runner.

If they get Gresham and Duursma and lose Shiel they will be even more outside then they were before, inside mids is what they need.

I think they are a club who just love players nominating them and the PR around it then actually improving their list, they are the kings of topping up to stay around 7th-13th mark.

You’d say for us to do this deal the risk of a bid coming for Croft before our first was definitely considerable.

It makes it our pick 10 (Croft) and then we’d have 17. In such a scenario I’d happily pair 17 with F1 for a top end player in this draft

What would people think about throwing our hat in the ring for Hawkins. He won't play but might just want some cash for a year, and we might be able to use him as a fwd line coach within the salary cap.

Just thinking outside the box given he hasn't signed on and is apparently a little bit apart with Geelong.

Looks like I'm in the minority here.

But effectively picks 10 + 20ish and probably a top 10 pick next year for what will work out to be pick 6.

I don't see why most on here are happy with this.

Clearly I'm missing something. And please don't tell me we're finishing top 4. We had a come from behind win against North and lost to the Hawks & West Coast.

Pick 10 or 11 is about right - depends how deep next year actually flows. If next year is a 2022 type draft and we lose pick 10 we’ve done badly. If it’s a 2023 type draft and we lose 10 I say we’ve done well. It’s 1 - 8 and then daylight for me this year. No-one I’m losing sleep over moving 10 and 17 to get up to the real deal stuff inside that top 8. Croft is a bonus and I see why he’s a mid-teens pick but he’s got a shed-tonne of work to do to be an elite forward. I would think he’d be a mid-20’s pick in most years “with plenty of upside” but he’s absolutely a teens pick this year which speaks more to the players surrounding and behind him than anything.

Back the club, hope like hell we get McKercher or Watson through. Decent chance at 4(6) anyway so at least we are trying something! Would hate the Geelong pick and our 10 this year will end up being somewhere around 12 - 14 and in an aweful part of the draft to get real value for regardless of Croft.

Pick 10 this year probably becomes pick 20 on the night. Pick 17 most likely ends up being a pick in the thirties.
