Looks like I'm in the minority here.

But effectively picks 10 + 20ish and probably a top 10 pick next year for what will work out to be pick 6.

I don't see why most on here are happy with this.

Clearly I'm missing something. And please don't tell me we're finishing top 4. We had a come from behind win against North and lost to the Hawks & West Coast.
Im with you, we lost to 2 teams actively tanking and a come from behind win against norf who was also tanking.
How bad were we when L Jones went down, most here recognise that the dogs need a winger, KPD to replace our aging back line, and an inside midfielder to replace libba.
3 1st is so much draft currency on a rookie. Throw 3 1st at the dees and see what shakes loose. Maybe an AA midfielder?

Of course they have, they’ve turned into massive dicks in trade week recently after having a great reputation for a long time. Hope they get nothing for him
That’s because it’s now Andrew Mackie, apparently a very harsh critic on and off the field with that tongue of his, quite an abrasive personality? Before it was Stephen Wells, both a gentleman and recruiting legend.

If they get Gresham and Duursma and lose Shiel they will be even more outside then they were before, inside mids is what they need.

I think they are a club who just love players nominating them and the PR around it then actually improving their list, they are the kings of topping up to stay around 7th-13th mark.

Not sure they need inside mids. All the guys they’ve been drafting lately should get chances in there. Tsatsas, Hobbs, Perkins, Caldwell.

All their guys are sort of the same player. 185cm, not very defensively minded. Think getting off of Shiel’s contract is a big win for them. No disrespect to him but him, Parish and Merrett is not a midfield that is going to work.

I’m liking the forward line we’re building now, fits much more in line with modern footy than what we’ve had in recent years.

We need to keep pushing Cody up the field for rotations - he’s a bit scrappy and not the cleanest mid but he’s a terrier and I like what he brings defensively. Watson too will push into the midfield and add blistering speed and skill. I think Harmes fits the bill here too, speed and aggression at half forward with runs in the midfield.

This is how we add speed to the midfield, half forward rotational players like those 3.

This is much better than bulk slow inside mids and crappy nothing players like Scott, McNeil etc who don’t really have any genuine strengths.

Clarke & AJ as well will come through as genuine pressure specialists and assist players which is the last missing link. I don’t think Ginnivan fits with what we’re building, just like he doesn’t fit at Pies. Not interested

This is the way footy is going as we’ve seen with Brisbane and Pies, so I’m glad we’ve identified it as a position of need. Best thing about our line up is our front half talls destroy those teams as a bonus.

Odds on it's Watson.
He's great - projects as a gun HF with excellent ball use.
He's not a small FP pressure forward but perhaps he starts that way
Does he lead at and demand the ball like Cody or is he more of a crumber who stays at the feet?
I hope it’s the latter, last thing we need is another ball chaser taking space from our bigs. Hope he is smart in terms of his role.

The 1 thing the pies and lions have is a functional defence and manic pressure.
Our game plan let's the ball move effortly out of our fwd line down to a defence that was held together by L Jones.
When Liam went down, it was horrible to watch.

Barrett reckons Hawthorn and Geelong will give a loaded offer to us for Bailey Smith.
Geelong don't have the currency and hawthorn would have to give us 3 and next year's first witch they surely wouldn't do and I know that's big but I don't think we take I'm sure we are heavily invested in bailey, id be very sad to see him go

Don't Hawthorn want JUH too?

Croft will be playing back in his first couple of years unless the Lobbster makes a surprise move. It would be good to start him there. Also I have an idea inkling Clark might be turned into a lock down defender. He has the ability to do so and could be what dogs need to take on the Cameron & papley types.

Question for everyone: what pick would the F1 need to end up being for you to be happy with the trade?
Can't answer that definitively as we don't know what any of this year's picks or our F1 will end up being. That's why we shouldn't just throw the toys out of the cot. There's a lot to play out before we can evaluate the deal. Power would have a far better idea than any of us just what actual picks we are giving up and getting.

I agree logically, but the confusing part of this is that we actually can't match a bid inside the top 10 currently. Sweet out of course, but then Coffield & maybe Harmes in - so without some more trading, it's hard to see how we get the points.
Might be part of the thinking in getting rid of F1 too if it's at risk of getting eaten into.

Why would we even want Ginnivan
Assume it's on the basis of being almost free/3rd rounder.

Bit of a late news
But once the bid for Croft comes

Dogs will try and trade back into the late first /early seconds
How do we get back in? An F2 and two F3s are all we have.

I think we paid to much for pick 4 picks 10, 17 and second future more than enough. Having said that we will have an improved list on what we had last season. Only lost fringe and back up players gain Watson or McKercher, Croft, Coffield (possible big upside with a good run with injuries and possibly Harmes (improved fringe player on what we had last season.

There should be a big upside in JUH, Darcy, JOD. Plus Buss, Gallagher, Buku and Bebendo are virtually untried. Surely Baz and Jacko have better seasons.
