I know Montagna was speaking in hyperbole but if Jamarra has a hot first month, he will genuinely be receiving the biggest contract offers the league has ever seen. I can easily see $1.2-$1.4 million over 10 years or something extraordinary.
Montagna is an even worse media figure than he was a player. And a flog to boot.

Anything he comes out with is usually garbage, also dislikes the dogs

Sam Power will need to be Houdini to keep all of Smith, JUH and Tim. He would have done a good job to keep 2 them providing one is JUH.

Here is what Cal Twomey on Gettable names a few clubs

AFL Media’s Cal Twomey has named the clubs that he thinks are in the running for out-of-contract Bulldog Jamarra Ugle-Hagan.

The 21-year-old has already been linked to Hawthorn and Twomey expects Collingwood, Sydney and even Essendon to also chase the former No.1 pick.
Twomey described the Ugle-Hagan contract saga as the “big one” in the upcoming AFL trade and free agency sweepstakes.

“This is the big one at the moment, there’s no doubt about that,” Twomey told AFL.com.au’s Gettable.

“Collingwood have been linked, Hawthorn is chasing like they chase every other key forward.

“Sydney is in the market still for a key forward after going hard at Aaron Naughton and Nick Larkey last year.

“Essendon, I think will also be interested.”

While the other clubs have previously been touted as potential suitors for Ugle-Hagan, Twomey also named one rival who has now been freshly linked to the forward in Richmond.

Twomey is tipping the Tigers to be in the chase for his signature after losing Jack Riewoldt to retirement last year.

“The other one I believe who are interested is Richmond,” Twomey said.

“They are in the post-Riewoldt world and are coming to the end of Tom Lynch’s free agency deal as well.

“They are a watch for me in the Jamarra race, I think they are in the chase.

“The Dogs still have remained confident that they’ll re-sign him.

“But I don’t think that’ll be soon, there is a feel amongst clubs that it’s sort of a holding station as well.”

While Twomey isn’t suggesting that Ugle-Hagan will decide to move, he does expect the forward to receive offers of 10 or more years to leave the Whitten Oval.

“Rival clubs are also aware to prise him out it will have to take a deal of 10 or 11 years,” Twomey said.

“This is going to be a mega, monster, extreme deal if he is to leave.

“He’s in his fourth year, if he stays it’s probably a four-year deal through to free agency but if he leaves, this is probably his big deal. So, you do the four years to free agency then the free agency deal, on top of that in one hit.

“I’m not saying he’s going to move, but there’s certainly clubs out there looking at him and I think Richmond will be among that.”

Ugle-Hagan has played 45 games for the Dogs and has 60 career goals to his name.

He's going hard at all things dogs.

He threw out $1.5m per year.

I get it will cost a fair bit to get JUH even interested but that's just stupid
It’s really not that stupid. $1.5 million in 6 or 7 years time will be the new $1 million.

We’ve had people suggest that Bailey Smith has potentially $1.2 million a year offers on the table and Jamarra would have more market value.

I was disappointed to lose him at the time and still think we got unders, but in hindsight Dunkley leaving may have been a blessing.

We don’t have the $700k per year we offered tied up which may be crucial in retaining Jamarra.

Also we wouldn’t have landed Sanders without the future pick we got for him.
$700k in 2022 cap dollars is around $990k in 2025 cap dollars if we factor in the massive increase in just 3 years.
It's quite the saving.

Pisses me off because we’re a “smaller” club that we get all these hyperbolic articles written about our players.

Hawks showing interest in Jamarra turns into RACE TO SIGN BULLDOGS YOUNG GUN.

Richmond showing interesting in Jamarra turns into HOT CONTRACT DISCUSIONS FOR JUH.

Like no shit, this happens for every young gun KPF. Guaranteed if he played for a “big club” the focus would be on him re-signing.

I could live with resigning Marra and Tim, I would find it a bit harder if it was resigning Baz and Marra, I will be filthy if we resign Baz and Tim, after what we had to give up in the draft to get Marra, all the whinging from other clubs to the point where they changed the rules and we missed out on one of our NGA last draft. Filthy!!

Because that's true for 99% of people. The only people who aren't motivated by money are the people who already have too much of it.
You don’t see too many players moving solely for money. Basically those that do, already want to leave. Then the highest bidding club has the whip hand. But, maybe Tim wants to leave 🤷‍♂️

Even if players "are motivated by money" this idea that they shouldn't be - that they should be grateful for the club in drafting and investing in them or whatever, or otherwise take less money to play in the destination they want to - is still very much old-fashioned thinking.

Wouldn't us, a small club, want the players in general to be motivated by money, because this puts us on an equivalent level with other clubs, rather than the perception of us being a "small club" and other players would sign for "big clubs" for less money than what we would pay them?

I would want players like Patrick Dangerfield to be motivated by money. It meant he wouldn't have two-thirds of a career as one of the best players in the league but barely being paid as a top-50 player allowing Geelong to recruit other players and win the flag in a year that we also had the chance of winning the flag.
