Has more passion in his pinky than half of our players. Maybe that’s the difference. Comes in and sets a new standard.
It’s exactly why we got M.Kennedy too…our team lacks grunt and players to fly the flag

Everyone’s whipping boy VDM is one of a few who do

We’ve got the guys with skill, we need hardness

A Brew or a Kennedy in that final against the hawks wouldn’t have just lied down when it got too tough.
I am not sure VDM is a good example of someone who doesn’t take shit. He can’t find the footy and then gets lippy when we are comfortably winning. I don’t see him laying a huge tackle when the going is getting tough.

It sounds like at the very least we’d get a leader & dominant player for our VFL team with so many fresh faces expected to play next year.

I do accept that we’ve been lacking mature leadership amongst the playing group with even more departing this offseason. It seems like the club has made a that a specific target of players recruited.

Yep. Imagine him in the final. No way he'd let anyone run all over him.

I meant more that he’s not afraid to remonstrate with the opposition and get in their heads…he doesn’t back it up enough on the field though

I don't have any problem with trialling Brew. He's just won the Liston Trophy, averages 29 Disposals and a huge 10 Tackles per game. Granted, he'll be 28 before the next season starts but 2 other Werribee players have just been drafted which speaks to the quality of their list.
It is just a trial and we've missed out on a few local players in recent times. Deserves a shot IMO.

He is still young enough to reach 100 games for a team if he can make it work, and land a starting gig from the beginning. So I am not worried about the fact he is 27 at all. Obviously it will be more about handling the pace of the AFL, but he has spent years playing against AFL caliber players.

It's really a free hit for us, given we have also bought in another experienced MID in Kennedy, and have four young MIDS on the list now, in Sanders, Gallagher, Hynes and Kennedy. Suddenly our midfield looks much more balanced age profile wise, a little faster, harder and bigger bodied.

We have nothing to lose really with giving him a shot. At least he has more heart than half our team that's a big tick alone. Not going to win finals with players who decide which week to rock up. I hope he succeeds, as he is really one of the best stories about persistence.
