Considering:

Raines => Broughton/Grima (can't decide)
+
Higgins => Franklin

IMO now is the time to get big Lance if you haven't already because he had no pre-season and essentially started 3 months behind everyone else. It's getting close to 3 months into the season and I reckon he's about to fire. Higgins would be a keeper if he could stay uninjured, but that battle is lost and if he plays this week, he's going down by quite a bit (BE 121) and Franklin is going up by quite a bit (BE 72). So even though I'm not looking at donuts this week, for me (with still 12 trades in hand), now is the time.

For the record, I reckon getting Raines in was a mistake (which I made also, as you can see). He was never a DT gun even at his best (averaged in the 60s), so his price rise was never going to be huge. I should have known better.

Yep I'm in the same Higgins dilemma - not sure whether to hang on and hope he doesn't drop, or trade up this week to Stevie J/ROK/Buddy.

I'm not copping any 0s this week, and still have 17 trades left, 135K (top of league ladder, which is all I care about!). I'm planning on getting Bartel next week and need to upgrade my backline, so I'm trying to keep some cash on hand.

Tossing up between

Raines - Broughton/Greenwood/Premium
Robinson - Muston
Brown - Austin/Wright
Higgins - Premium

Other players giving me the s*** are Houlihan and Thomas,

FYI this is my team:

Goddard, Cornes, Enright, Adcock, Suban, Houlihan, Grimes, (Petrenko, Raines)

Gibbs, Selwood, Kornes, Cross, Haselby, Otten , (Robinson, Sidebottom)

Cox, McIntosh (Spencer, Graham)

Pavlich, Deledio, Goodwin, Gia, Higgins, Brown, Thomas, (Warren, Hentshell)

Thoughts???

It's only my second season, so still getting the hang of it!! Any help much appreciated :)

doing raines >> broughton
walker >> pavlich

next wk otten/rich >> muston
il then have enough cash to upgrade rich/otten to any gun
and the week after upgrade ziebell to riewoldt or vice versa

team will b set hopefully then
thoughts??
ps this is with me keeping higgins...who im hoping he can eventuallly start posting good scores after a few weeks

With 17 trades I say trade away Freckles. :D I would say yes to Raines > Broughton and then someone > Buddy. Then next week go Robinson > Muston for a cash injection into your bank acc.

Yeh looks pritty good mate!
did a similar sort of trade this week as well except i went

raines to grima
T.Tuck to K.Cornes
yea kornes looks a great buy at the moment. should be back to his best soon and pumping out those 100s. just had a little brain wave would it be better to get swan or corey. both look like averaging 110 but i think swan is more likely to get the 150s and looks a better captain option. thoughts?

From a personal point of view id take swan just coz i already have bartel and selwood running around in my midfield. I dont think you can have to many geelong and stkilda players this year but that might be starting to get a bit conjested:p

I really dont think you can go wrong with either tho. Both are having their usual massive seasons and should both average very well from here on in. Id probably go swan... just coz it gives you the option to pick up the other one (ablett or bartel) im assuming you have one but not both? if you want to get the other one into your team..but if that doesnt worry you mate then i really dont think it matters

I am planning to upgrade Walker this week to a premium.
Should I go to Riewoldt or save the 70-100k and get a Deledio or Gia or Brennan.
This will be my last forward upgrade so I really want Riewoldt, is he worth the extra cash.

do you have much upgrading to do in other areas of your team?

i dont have either of bartel or ablett. my midfield is- gibbs,hayes,murphy,selwood,kornes,coughlan. once i get swan or corey all my 6 mids should average 100+ so it dosnt really bother me not having bartel/ablett. gibbs and hayes both look like averaging 105-110 so they wont be far off bartel/gazza and corey/swan will be nearly as good. dont really have the money for bartel or ablett and carnt really afford to burn another trade to get the funds nedded. when i upgrade coughlan i will have 450k to spend on a mid which will finalise that are. so its basically corey or swan for my last midfield position.

I am choosing between Sam Fisher and Peter Buryone to finish off my backline. Its a long term decision and im pretty much stuck on which 1.
Who should i get?

Who would you think is the best backline rookie, purely in terms of how many games they'll play, ie. disregarding their scores.

Broughton, Grima or Greenwood?

Really can't decide! Greenwood's job security doesn't look fantastic. Broughton may also have selection dramas due to Harvey being a *******. Grima looks ok, but no idea how many games he'll get either.

Higgins -> Brennan methinks...

Been tossing it up all week and gut feel says Higgins will be heavily managed for a few weeks at least.

Not a good sign that you have two weeks off, come back and it flares again in the 2nd quarter of your first game back.

12 trades left now...

Will look to do a big move next week, Robinson -> Muston and then a nice upgrade somewhere, maybe Bate -> Davis / Roo

i would go fisher there mate. much more consistent and dosnt miss many games should average 90 from here on out. burgoyne can get some monster scores but dosnt follow it up one week he will get 150 and then the next week 50 and then a 70. where as fisher will get you 80+ nearly every week. there wont be much in it average wise but i would go fisher purely on that consistencty basis and fisher can also get the 100s as well. he may even be freed up a little when hudghton returns which could see his scores go up

10 trades left - $600 to spend. :p

Backline: Goddard, Cornes, Drummond, Taylor, Grimes, Cheney, Raines. Emerg. Petrenko, Quinn
Midfield: Bartel, Selwood, Judd, Ablett, Cooney, Coughlan. Emerg. Beams, Barham
Forward: Riewoldt, Giansiracusa, Deledio, Higgins, Roughead, Ziebell, Didak. Emerg. Walker, Ballantyne

Bit stuck with what to do this week.

Option 1

Raines --> Broughton
Beams/Barham --> Muston (to avoid a zero this week, plus I'm getting him in anyway)

Option 2

Raines --> Broughton
Walker --> Franklin

Or alternatively, if anyone else has any better ideas. My backline needs the most work - hoping to bring in Hodge for Cheney after the slip round.

Yeah after thinking about it for a fair while, I reckon option 1 would be the way to go considering if I go option 2, I'll have a keeper/premium being played on the bench every week. I can't downgrade Ziebell or anyone to Ballantyne because I've already got him.

Yeah I think I have to agree with you go Option 1 Then use the cash to strengthen you backline next week.

Anyone know when Hodge is going to return? I'm thinking he could be a good inclusion to my backline. He'd still have a high BE too wouldn't he?

  • HAWTHORN coach Alastair Clarkson says star Luke Hodge may miss another three games
If that is so, then the Norm Smith medalist would not return until Rd 13 - after the bye.

Such a spell would take the toll from Hodge’s adductor strain to five games.
The Hawks' vice-captain has not played against the loss to Essendon and has a history of groin problems.
Clarkson said today that Hodge was keen to return as early as possible, but the club is considering giving him the benefit of the bye weekend.
