The Tigers W are averaging about 1600 attendance each game. Friends in Darwin went with free tickets said it was like 20 years ago when you'd leave docklands and the promoters were handing out stacks of free tickets to the gallery or goldies. It took 2 months but the AFL finally updated the crowd numbers site with the overembellished claim 5000 attended the W game before the Bulldogs final which was completely fabricated as no one was there it was played during office hours.

Ave crowds across the entire comp is 2400 (60% attending for free) TV ratings are in the toilet. The entire leagues trajectory is downward. The Bozo in charge is pushing for gimmicks like state of origin, International rules and a gather round in QLD!!!!! If the Tigers can only draw 1600 against our traditional rivals Blues and Pies and 900 against top of the ladder North, can only imagine what an unmitigated disaster it'll be playing 9 games in a rugby market. Surely would be lucky if 500 attended most games and can only imagine 200 attending a SA v WA team game. Even the proposed player sponsorship thread posted here had barely enough raised for a 7 11 coffee each.

The comps doomed. Next EBA the players will need to take massive haircuts or slash the teams down to aflx style 10 a side, try and create a big Bash style league cos it's an unwatchable farce and doomed.

I used to enjoy watching AFLW but since they brought in 18 teams the standard has gone so far down it's almost unwatchable. They have expanded too fast. In the early years they got some good crowds including 40,000+ at a GF. This year, I went to many men's suburban footy games around Melbourne and the standard was far better and enjoyable than AFLW. It's a tough call but maybe they should reduce the number of teams. Two pet hates of mine are 1. happy to have Pride round and everything that goes into Pride round but don't like what they have done to the footy jumpers. For me, one thing that is sacrosanct is the jumper and its colours, and 2. the over top, sugary, puffed-up AFLW TV commentary is hard to digest sometimes. On a positive note, women's footy is exploding in the suburbs. Lot's of girls wanna play footy.

I differ. I think the standard keeps rising. Right from the beginning. The beauty of it is that if you don't want to watch it, and it's not being forced down your throat - you don't need to have an offensive view of it if you don't watch it - simple. If you do watch it, it is a freedom of choice thing.

Know a couple of the players having a crack, and am proud of how they carry themselves, how they train so hard to be the best they can be. The whole Richmond AFLW side uphold Richmond values, and some.

One of the main issues people have is where does the money come from that pays for it all..... the men's comp subsidises it. Moron Dil McLaughlin was so keen to brag that the W players would be the highest paid players of any comp. Issue is there's 600 players. Unlike a netball or basketball team with 5 of so players and a few bench or soccer, rugby. Even rugby for example as the main rival only had 10 teams with 18 players on a list. 180 quality players is easier to find than 600.

I coached and was assistant coach for 4 years with my stepdaughters teams. I'm in touch with a fair few of those players and none of them even watch or support the W. I used to organise mini vans and get a group of parents to help supervise them to Bulldogs games and still get sent free tickets from Bulldogs, Kangas and Tigers with my "member no." I never paid. I couldn't pay for a lousy standard like that. Local suburban clubs are folding and merging left right and centre. Funding clubs used to receive has been syphoned off to prop up the W. You'd think there would be gratitude but it's anything but with delusional entitlement.

I get up and drunkenly sing Karaoke like most. It would never occur to me to ask Beyonce or Adele to subsidise my lousy performance. The W is now only on 7mate or whatever secondary channel. Even the broadcasters would rather show 10 yo repeats of Dr Harry or Travel shows than the W. They need to stop whining about what the men are getting and stand on their own 2 feet. AFLX (W) on smaller grounds with less players would slash costs, slash lousy players and could only improve the quality and spectacle and scoring. Anyone who thinks it's improving is delusional.

You have an opinion. What it is based on is up to you. Many others have an opinion as well, not delusional people, but stakeholders, and they roundly share that the AFLW is improving, skills wise - whether that translates to being able to pay it's way in time, we shall see.

The Richmond AFLW side represents Richmond and they have my full support. They don't have yours it would seem. That's life. I'm sure they are not losing any sleep over either of us

I’ve only seen one club fold in my league in the last 6-7 years.
It’s about live players/registrations and cash flow and people power,
the smaller the club the more left to too few.
Funding to help with Public Liability ins or things like that won’t bring in juniors and those numbers keep clubs afloat.
I agree with you about the audience,
It’s one of the few sports in the world where the game isn’t supported by the prospective players.
Kids who love athletics and swimming will watch it, young girls don’t really.
The mens game is a higher standard and the families are more linked in with the clubs and history of the clubs.
I dont think girls are as big a section of the fan base as boys though Indo think talented female juniors, really athletic 13-14 yr olds are choosing AFLW over soccer/athletics and other sports because the pathway is really clear.

Aflw is here to stay IMO there’s enough in the benefit of keeping juniors away from other sports for them to continue with it.
AFL want as big a piece of the pie of junior athletes and consumers as they can get.

Re: the crowds. It doesn't help matters when they insist on playing big games such as today's against Hawthorn at our mini-suburban sized Punt Road oval that barely holds 2,000 people. Game has been sold out for several days.

Played the Blues at Ikon and only 1800 turned up (capacities 15,000) played the Pies on a fine day at Punt Rd during school holidays and 1700 turned up. If they went ahead with gather Rd in QLD I highly doubt people will take time off work to fly to the games if they can't be stuffed going to either Punt Rd or Ikon, much less flick on 7mate. There's been plenty of failed sporting competitions/ leagues worldwide that just aren't popular.

60% of businesses fail within 5 years, even after every cost cutting measure has been implemented. That's just the way of the world. Only difference is those employees aren't ungrateful demanding massive payrises. Now the W coaches are crying poor...... where's all this money coming from? Do they even wonder? Cos they surely don't care!

True, but footy at sub AFL level, thrives on home games etc......
