Hello Eagles fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

Old mate reckons using pick 2 on Curtin is using pick 2 on a player who is actually pick 6, yet logic dictates he won’t be there at 6.

Make it make sense.
It’s possible that on the eagles draft board Curtin is ranked the 6th most desirable player in terms of need, so taking him at pick 2 would be a reach, regardless of where other teams have him ranked and whether or not he’d be available or not.

North probably have him ranked higher than 6 so yes, he might not be available at 6 you’re right. If we had no Gov or TB, the Eagles might have him ranked higher too but as it stands taking who we view as the 6th best player in the draft with pick 2 would indeed be ****ing stupid.

Interested to see if we secure Matt Flynn, how this improves our centre square work next year. Williams had a good year, but it still felt he got belted out of the middle when facing bigger rucks. If we can materially improve our mids, we may actually start to win some clearances and give our forwards half a chance.

Hopefully we draft someone good at clearances and contested footy.

I don't like him with 2 either, but it's what'll happen. The fact McKercher's name hasn't come up at all in all of ROB's interviews tells you something.

FWIW North Melbourne will likely take him with one of their two picks as it stands now.
NAh thats just buying into the media narrative that Curtin is WA therefor WCE pick him if they trade 1 for 2 + stuff.
The only reason ROB hasnt mentioned McKercher is that he has not been asked about him. The only 2 players Ive heard him talk about for the sole reason, they are the players interviewers have asked about is obvious pick 1 Reid and WA prospect Curtin. Oh and Collard- a WA NGA prospect.

ROB wont bring up names, he will simply respond to what the media ask him, which is Reid and Curtin only. Im not at all convinced that Curtin is our second or even third choice player in the draft.

There’s zero chance Curtin is on the board at 6.

Reid will go pick 1 no matter who has the pick, if West Coast or North have 2 they’d take him.

If North don’t take him with 2, they’ll take him with 3, and even if North was to go Watson/McKercher there’s no way Hawks over look him too.

If Curtin was at 6 on clubs draft boards, West Coast could just find a way to trade for GCS pick if they wanted him.

You’re saying he’s pick 6 but the likelihood of him actually being on the board at pick 6 is next to zero.

There’s a huge flaw in your logic 🤪
The only reason he would go pick 3 is Kangas desperate need for a Key defender.

Hawks won't touch him.
Really it's only North that is the reason he would go pick 3. He would be pick 6 if Reid wasn't being used by BS Vic spin like they do every year. You are just falling for it. Geez I hope our recruiting isn't so easy to manipulate like you are. As long as our recruiting have done there research and I'd assume they have they can go off the past year of what Curtin has produced. It's more about talent and to be honest his talent and output hasn't warranted being picked in the top 5 let alone pick 2.

As I said, he's a good player who will be a good player, but we just don't need him.
I do hope you're right, but I have no faith in that occurring.

No, they wouldn't.
Please tell me the last time pick 1 was openly up for trade besides last year (we all know why)

I’m unsure how it is over west but here in Victoria it’s basically set in stone which standout player is going at pick 1 and which club is taking him ie Carlton Gibbs/Murphy etc and that pick is not even up for debate, the fact that we have the door ajar for trading the pick is disgusting

Disagree.

The only reason north are interested is the pick 3 compo. It's a free hit to have a crack at Reid or it's a free hit to pick Curtin with 3.

If they don't get pick three compo I guarantee they don't take Curtin with 2.

... and? You said he'd last until pick 6. North have two of those picks, therefore he won't last past their second pick.

Your logic is already flawed right there.

I agree Hawthorn wouldn't take him. I have less opinions about what Melbourne / GC would do. GC likely trade it so it's hard to predict who takes what when we don't know who ends up with that pick

So why do we care about North and how they see him. Your logic is flawed. Let them pick Curtin at pick 3.

That there own list management decision due to there key defender issues.

Has nothing to do with us and picking the best talent.

Whether we trade or not, the painful thing here is that the obvious best move for the club is to do nothing until at least the very end of the trade period if not literally until draft night and just let these clubs work themselves up. Really the best hope for peace before then is that North get distracted by some other deals and hand over enough there that they could no longer meet our demands. How many days left until draft night?

My point was, dont draw the long bow that we are balls deep into Curtin and have no interest in McKercher because Curtin and Reid are the only ones RoB has mentioned in interviews. He is (despite popular opinion) too astute to bring up other names if the interviewer doesnt specifically ask about them.

Your own post stated he's worth pick 6 - a very specific number that I don't know how or why you've plucked. Why take a pick 6 at a pick 2.

Simple.
If we want Curtin, a) we don't have pick 6 and b) he wouldn't even make it to 6 because North will have the double pick.

I agree with you in that we shouldn't be drafting him. Not necessarily for the same reason as you though.

I'm only replying to your own statement.

BOND 007
Are we willing to accept to later first rounders in a heavily compromised first round simply to gain more top 20 picks for Reid?
Also is there heavy interest in Mckercher and how does it to compare to Curtin?

What possible defenders or mids are available around 20?

We need to start drafting future replacements for McGovern and fill out our key defensive posts.

Don't we have a history of players having absolutely no idea that we are interested in drafting them right up until we read out their names? Feel like that story has come up quite often.

... the whole time.

This isn't a hot take or new information.
