I believe that St. Kilda rank Bytel highly and were surprised he lasted in the draft as long as he did. Only been at the club for 12 months and spent the entire time in rehab, I doubt the Saints will give him up for just Butler. Would be more likely it would take Butler and one of our second round picks.

Lol what? Butler is a premiership player and proven at AFL level. Bytel hasn’t played a game and is a cripple.

Why are we always selling or guys short. It’s the oppo players who are mainly sh1t not ours.

We just handed over the bulldogs their leading goalscorer for the year in Lloyd. Fremantle, a great defensive mid in Conca that allows Fyfe to dominate and win Brownlow medals buuuut no one cares because we're always going to find gems in 3rd rounders. End of rant
We won a couple of prelims & Flags without Conca.
You know what happened when he was in.😜

Jack Bytel was drafted with Pick 41 only 12 months ago and hasn’t had an opportunity to show anything yet due to injury.

I was suggesting that Richmond should offer one of 38,39 or 41 for him 12 months later. St Kilda wouldn’t accept anything else.

Where as Dan Butler (which I want on record that I think we are better off keeping him for another 12 months) want to go to the Saints.

Despite being a premiership player; Butler is now just depth at the Tigers and we’ve seen how Richmond are prepared to facilitate minimal value trades to let our depth players go for more opportunities & money (see Lloyd, Miles, etc.)

Sam Walsh comes out of contract at the end of 2022.
He will be only 22.
We would have a couple of key retirements by then to allow salary space.
See the Geelong Falcons highlights.
Brilliant evasive midfielder with amazing goal sense.

Think our definition of 'tight' is slightly different. I'm looking at the relative immovability of our list to ensure player retention. You seem to define it as the likelihood of losing players like Collingwood are at risk of doing.

In that I agree with you, we have more flexibility than a Collingwood and it's maintaining that flexibility that I think our cap situation is tight.

This is why posters getting up in arms about letting the likes of CEllis, Miles, Lloyd, Butler and Menadue go for 'charity' need to step back and see the bigger picture. Firstly it shows the great culture of the club that it doesn't get in the way of players seeking legitimately better opportunities. Second, by playing 'hard ball' you run the risk of losing out and either a) delisting a player and therefore getting no return at all or b) having to re-sign him impacting that flexibility.

Imo, the fact that Collingwood a has so much money invested in their fringe players has put them in this hole whereby they could legitimately lose Grundy due to poor salary cap management.

We are not in that spot, thank the Balmy.
Who, if I recall correctly, Collingwood bumped to us for Gubby. No wonder I have a soft spot for the Magpies.

Too late by then.
He'll be carltooned.

Looks like Houli is only running around for one more season

Rance is a year by year prospect

Cotchin will be all down to how long the body holds out

Jack will be sooner rather than later imo given the way he plays

We have replacements for all four queued up, so I'm actually not freaking. This isn't the Richmond of old
Has Houli actually said he only wants to play for one more?

Dogs starting to regenerate.

They get Bruce (fair to middling but another target to take the pressure off Naughton) and Keath (reckon he’s ok), then they’ll be more competitive again next year.

Upward trend for them.
I think they’ve got the best midfield in the comp, if they can stay injury free, I can see them finishing top 4

We took 5 selections in that draft, Patrick Naish was selected with our 4th selection which is where he was rated. So yes, he was taken late given our selections and it was his actual fair value.... That is not a contradiction.

Not sure how St Kilda can be perceived by you to have done something wrong.
Lol yes it is. St Kilda forced our hand at where he is worth (your words). Generally players who are father sons slide to lower than their “worth” out of good faith from most clubs. St Kilda didn’t act in good faith. Neither did we when we bid early for academy players. Get over the fact I don’t rate it.

No worries Perks.

It’s a shame Butler hasn’t been able to lock down a spot in the team but he does lack variety in his game IMO.

I find it interesting that Charlie Cameron went for pick 12 with only slightly better season stats than Butler in 2017. Hard to argue with his value now though and in Butlers case I could never see him being as good as Cameron.

In saying that, I wouldn’t trade Castagna for less than a first rounder and he had similar stats in 2017 to Butler. Castagna has kicked on and if he had any skill or could kick straight he’d be talked about like Cameron.

I disagree, I think our players values are diminished by the way we play. Broad for me would require a pick in the late teens/early 20s.

Unless you have a market for something you can’t sell it. Few teams with minimal wage offers are interested in Butler also we withdrew our own offer. Very hard to spin that into decent picks. He’s one step off delisting.

I have heard he's been telling people in his local community 2020 is his final run, and that's been backed up by a couple of others on here

Houlis focus is moving to his community work
