We propose a deal with GWS

Let coniglio go as a FA and pocket the pick 15 .
Then swap pick 9-10 (1440) tied to essendon

for future 1st (1100) 25(750) 34 (550) = 2400

Gws get 15 compo + 19 ( in equivalent points ) for coniglio

We go to the draft with 2 first rounders and get coniglio .

2400 points is a tad more than pick 3. Pick 19 is 1164 points.

2400 pts minus pick 10

The premise of the deal was to pay way overs for pick 10 so GWS would be happy to let coniglio go as a free agent .

Way overs = equivalent of pick 19 to add to the FA compo

Broken down

Wce get pick 10 + coniglio

Lose future 1st + 25 + 34

Gws get pick 15 ( compo )+ future 1st + 25 + 34

Lose pick 10 and coniglio

Its roughly the same overs port paid last year to freo pick 6 for 11 + 23 + 30

Really? Where did you hear that?

Smart by both player and club if true. Gaff gets a secure long term contract but flexible. Club gets its man but if he does elect to move dont get shafted. Win win.
So... you use the light theme eh?

Pity we aren't in the frame for Jackson, him and Williams would have been a great ruck combo for the near future.
Not sure about that. Mickey A stated Jackson was a top 5 talent but I do not expect him to be in the top 10 taken. I suspect he will slide as clubs are not taking rucks early and he is seen as undersized. I see him more likely to be a KPP who chops out in the ruck (unless he grows a bit). I would be happy to take him with Sydney's second - provided we have taken an inside mid with our first.

I think they might improve a bit next year especially if they can get Docherty back fit.
But I'm talking maybe finishing 10th or so.
Kreuzer has maybe two years left. I'd be hitting the eject button hard AF.

AFL player movement is a bit of a laugh really.

The PA want all the good things that other sports have but none of the drawbacks. No club initiated trades, no public salaries, no max contract lengths/values, no earning criteria for contracts etc.

I'm fine with free agency, players really shouldn't be bound by clubs when out of contract. But in a system where players are drafted at 18 and developed at AFL level losing them at 24 for nothing is a bit of a kick in the nuts to the clubs. But hey the clubs are the ones that draft kids and not 20, 21, 22 year olds.

What the AFL should introduce is contracts being traded. None of this 'I signed for 5 years at $500k and now I can get $800k so I want out' nonsense. You want to move clubs, that club trades for the balance of your contract and when that is up you revert to being an uncontracted player/FA. They should also introduce max criteria. McGovern (26, 3 x AA) and Gaff (26, 2 x AA, B&F) should be eligible for 6 year, $6m deals - for example. To leave as FAs they should be eligible for something lesser, say 5 years x $900k. Tom Boyd (19, 9 games) should not be eligible for a 6 year, $6m deal.
Yeah I agree with this. If we want to go down the American sports path, we need to bring the whole lot. Can’t pick and choose what sounds good as it unbalances the power.

Although that being said.. their model works for them because of the different dynamics. Players travelling for 9 months of the year, playing games every second day.. their life is a constant holiday, so if they’re moved on by the team it’ll be disappointing.. but more of the same. At least in comparison to us. Over here we’ve got players being home for one and a half weeks every fortnight (and that’s at a worst case interstate side), so it’s hard to imagine a scenario where a Victorian player, for example, grown up in Melbourne, been at a Melbourne club for 3-4 years, gets the “sorry you’re no longer required, we’ve traded you to WC and you’ll be playing in Perth next year”.. with a months notice at best.

I made it up.
I had an admission hidden in the post (highlight to see). Just shows how easy it is to make shit up and everyone runs with it.

Aron Baynes had a one year player option on his contract with Boston. He elected to exercise the option and stay with the Celtics and then they turned around and traded him to Phoenix.

Another thing I'd like to see is team/player options. Josh Kelly has kind of tried to do this with GWS. So we could sign a player to a 3 year deal with a 4th year being a team or player option. Team option we can cut them loose after 3, player option they can jump ship after 3.

I wish I was rebel enough to change my username all the time .....

Less changing usernames, more having to create a new account when the previous one got banned

Yes definitely a higher chance if we go to the GF. Though Geelong will argue that we will be taking a top 3 player from the current minor premiers and giving it to a direct top 2 side competitor. They’ll see us getting better and their side getting worse. Selwood has gone backwards and Dangerfield plays one of the more physical games out there. But I’d like Devan so make it happen Vo
Would you have said the same thing about Judd?

I'm of completley opposite thinking. I think players should go wherever they're traded to. They get paid well enough to do so.
well Judd chose his Club - in fact a lot were astounded at the time as it appeared he was interviewing the various Clubs who were showing interest and not the other way around. From my understanding most players manage to get to the Club of their choice once they are out of contract and wish to move, so I guess we shall see. I also understand the AfL can step in to facilitate the trade, should there be a stalemate.

Ok got it.

Thanks.

Mick Ablett (talent manager or some such for WA football) was on the coast to coast podcast this week. Would know more than most on potential draftees so it’s a good listen for anyone interested

Highlights from it eere
• Sydney Stack - always had talent but was unwilling to take advice and/or help himself. Ablett made no secret that he wanted Stack removed from the underage program because of his poor attitude. Said there was only a handful of clubs that he’d succeed at without naming them. Was glad he was going well at Richmond
• Thought that GWS academy product Tom Green was in the discussion as a no.1 pick and said it’ll be interesting if a club pulls the trigger on him early to force GWS hand. Those picks GWS have will be in demand on they try to juggle points so definitely an opportunity for us to do some trading in relation to Kelly and coniglio if required
• WA ruckman Luke Jackson was a top 5 talent
• Freo’s NGA prospect Liam Henry could go top 10 so they’ll need points for him
• Was highly complimentary of Deven Robertson and his leadership
• Pegged Riley Garcia as someone who could provide value later in the draft ~3rd round
Crows always hold clubs accountable at draft night, they've got Carltons pick they'll definitely make GWS go early on Green.

Loved Liam Henry having a great carnival, he was very good. Just means Dorkers will have to take him early. Where we got to use pick 39 on Cameron last year. Haha

Jackson is a gun, sort of hoping we can use Sydneys pick on him.

Garcia is my one of my favourites, he'll slide due to his acl but will be a great pick later in draft. Just hoping it's us, he's a real impact player.

I don't know what you're talking about. You suggested "trading our future" isn't worth it for "five minutes of glory". That's a strange way to describe trying to win another flag in the short term, even if it means trading out a highly rated but unproven young player. If anyone is playing games, it's you, with a silly word game to downplay the objective of winning a flag. Not sure what other objective you value higher than that?
