Except you don't always win it in the middle.
Win it enough in the middle and the forwards go off song though - a prime example of this was the '90GF. Dons had a vastly superior forward line and should have thrashed our backs but their mids simply couldn't get clear enough to give them the opportunities they needed.

My point was you don’t sell the farm for a defender. You may consider it for a forward who can convert midfield dominance

It's not common but why shouldn't it be? Key defence is actually a really tough position to fill. Especially with a well rounded player. One that attacks and defends. For example, we set up so much play through Dunns field kicking. But I can't see many who can replicate that play running around who also stops their opponent. May is probably the only one; and interestingly Reid in his prime (does he still have that depgh of kicking?). I reckon May would be an excellent addition even accounting for his potential cost.

Moore is a Lovely Field Kick

He is. We actually have a few good options at key back in that regard. With Dunn out all of Moore, Reid and Mihocek are pretty handy with ball in hand. All have depth in their kicking.

They signed him to a 4 year deal worth 600-700k a season in 2013

The discussion was around "selling the farm" for a defender. Which I take to mean the cost not only in wages but the trade cost to secure their services. Richmond didn't trade for Rance, they recruited him, so they have hardly sold the farm. And 6-700k for one of your top 3 players also is not selling the farm. I think you've used a poor example to back up your point; which I otherwise tend to agree with.

Doesn't matter if they trading for him or drafted for him, they sold a fair bit of salary cap for him.
