Very interesting post BJ. Say there were 4 offers do you think there would be a huge difference between the highest one and his preferred option?

One would think the three clubs mentioned in the media would be around the same dollar wise because of cap. I have no idea about a 4th club nor their capacity to pay a lot more.
Can we exclude any offer from Norf, it would inflate the average but consideration would still be zero.

G'day Pies,

If you're not still drinking down delicious Tullamarine Tears leftover from Sunday then I have some tidbits for you. Very good tomatoes.

- Tom Lynch almost certainly going to the Hawks (sorry)
- Mitch McGovern definitely leaving Adelaide, most likely to come to Vic
- Sloane very interested in coming to victoria also.
- Gaff is gettable but clubs aren't as confident, will probably have to be enticed to leave.
- J.McGovern isn't going anywhere.

To be honest I think this works well for you, Lynch would probably cost too much and McGovern would slot nicely into your forward line with his marking a point of difference to your fleet-footed mid sized forwards. Of course he's contracted.. anyway that's all I've got for now. Make of that what you will.

Just extrapolating on that information - if Lynch, Sloane, Gaff and McGovern all came to Victoria it would be very uncollingwood-like to not pick up any of them.

Lynch and McGovern are the only 2 I would want Collingwood to Chase

Interesting that so far there have been posters almost certain that Lynch is going to Coll or Rich or Hawks. Hard to know what to put weight on. Is this the sort of info you would normally come across?

Not to dissuade you from your position (more power to you), but do you think its at all possible that he has, say 4 offers, in front of him and is yet to decide on which he should take?
Do you think it is also possible that the dilemma for him and his Manager is, his preferred option might be the lesser in terms of $ on offer?

These questions and more, will eventually all be answered

The discussion becomes a little muddier when you consider take-home $$$ - it works out to roughly $50k extra take-home $$$ for every additional $100k on his actual salary. If that ends up being the difference between the highest and lowest offers then giving up 10% for an opportunity with the team you think has the best chance of sustained on-field success over the next 5-6 years is something most players would probably be happy with.

If the difference is say 1.1 mil per year vs 1.3 mil per year then that extra 20% would make the decision harder - perhaps leaning towards the money as it's effectively worth almost as much as an extra year on the deal.

Just to throw this out there - Richmond's premiership window is open now so historically speaking it might be starting to close next year, especially given their high-demand game style and the stupidly good run they've had with injury this year. Would Lynch perhaps look at Richmond and think he may have missed the boat, in comparison to a Hawthorn or Collingwood team that looks like it is on the way up?

so we got Dunne for a packet of Twisties and paid him peanuts...

...now we apparently have to have May who will cost plenty (picks/players) and plenty of $$ as well.

Get Lynch and send Mihocek back (along with Moore if he stays).

Its not complicated. May is a luxury that cannot be justified.

The reason we are going after May is that it is a fait accompli that he will be at Hawthorn next year. We need to have a defensive option post Dunne and Moore will be sent back. We were never getting Lynch. We don’t land big free agents. Hawks do. It’s why they’ve won so many flags post 1961.

Sorry Moore will be sent forward

Selling the farm for an injury prone ill tempered full back is a massive mistake.
Smart clubs don't do that. They do what Hine did with Dunne and find value.
May will be a bigger mistake than Mayne.

Our forward line is working extremely well this year. So why get Lynch? Is that our biggest need that we would blow a million plus per year? 600 to 700 for May is much better imo.

Agreed. I think we need to let the season play out before we worry too much about who to chase. Lynch is overrated for what he has achieved and now has big injury problems. I'd prefer to keep Moore and go for another Dunn pickup!

Caro also mentioned that we are behind both Hawthorn and Richmond in the chase for Lynch.

Lol yet on the previous Superfooty podcast about 2 days earlier she said she believed Lynch was going to the Pies!

Media have literally forkin no idea. Most of these “journo’s” deadset just throw darts and see who it lands on.

Only person I’ll believe is Tom Lynch when his club of choice exits his gob.

Don't want May. Sound fullbacks are probably the easiest position to fill on a teamsheet.

* 2nd hand AFL players like Dunn

* VFL players like Mihocek... or Sam Collins at Werribee this year.

* or key average forwards made good as key defenders like Liam Jones, Sam Rowe, Presti or Ben Reid

Spend precious cap $$$ on a KPF or a quality hard running mid

Why aren't we getting Lynch and/ or why is he certain to be going to Hawks?

My guy feel is leaning towards that we have Lynch sealed and are now turning our attention to May.

Darcy is probably gone hence the play at May. Looking at age and games played profile, we probably think that the addition of two ready made KPP’s with leadership skills puts right into the frame in 2019-2020.

Gold Coast came to play in the first quarter against us. They were playing like it was a final. At the time I was thinking that they might be a bit pissed off that we’ve landed Tom.

If Sloane and Gaff are gettable for a reasonable price then we will go after them, you don’t ignore quality players like them if they are available

But we should put in more Time in Talls which we Badly Need

The same could be said about Richmond. Its the reason that I reckon the Hawks is the option which seems to make most sense for him. Having said that, I won't be complaining if he lands here.
The media just headline it every few days with different opinions to keep the pages ticking over. I wouldn't take too much notice just yet.

Tend to agree w this

Would love Moore to sign and play a significant role in the backline
(However as another poster mentioned - Darcy’s interview gave the impression- right or wrong - that he wanted to play forward)

Also, #CerraforPies

and I think Moore is better Forward the Backman.

Though what I seen of him so far I think Ruck is the position he looked best in
