Absolutely no way May gets his contract torn up so he can become a free agent.

Possibly one of the stupidest thing thing I have ever heard a journo say.

I doubt they'd give up May for Wills. It's hard to find a middle ground. I reckon it'll be hard to facilitate a deal they'll agree to. I was just using Phillips as an example of what might get us closer. I wouldn't go there personally but I think that's what they'd need.

There’s currently an air of inevitability about Moore’s contract situation which has nothing to do with team selection this week. Should he leave that will provide us with 2 first round picks in this draft, IMO.

Personally I would be more open to setting our sights on Scully and trading out Phillips. You’ve got to break a few eggs to make an omelette and if we could enter 2019 with May and Scully over Moore and Phillips I would be much more comfortable with our prospects.

From my perspective the blow of losing Phillips regardless of whether we could land Scully or not would certainly be softened by potentially moving Stephenson into the midfield and the addition of Quaynor. The list is strong regardless of a few movements of peripheral players and if you can cash in while value is high I’d be open to it.

FWIW reading the tea leaves suggests to me May is definitely on the way out.

Any chance Scully leaves Gws?

Until a month ago I’d have said no way, but there’s been some talk lately and we know he’s a mercenary.

Let’s say the reports are true, GWS are a star player over the cap for 2019 and they can lose either Shiel or Scully who do you think they’d prefer?

IMO, there’s been a lot of talk pumping up Guy’s tyres with negligible results, at best, so far. This type of move out of nowhere is one way he can win me over.

I think Gws prefer to lose Shiel over Sculley.

Also from what I hear Lobb is good as gone.

The amazing thing is that I heard he is on 750k. Doubt that is true.

Big call! With the impending loss of Kelly next year I think Shiel would be more valuable myself because he can do it inside and out, but Scully’s a gun so I definitely see your angle.

I doubt it’s quite that high, but it would be $600k minimum, IMO, because when he signed that deal he was hot shit! I’m also not sure the interest will be there because that’s too much for a contending club to take on under the cap except maybe Hawthorn.

It would be a bit like us chucking Cox a $500k deal this year, were he uncontracted, solid players both of them, but it’s overs.

The rumour is Lobb is heading west.

Wanna have something on it? He’s got two feet in the door at Arden St!
So they are paying overs for Polec and heavily into Gaff.

If they get Gaff we will have a small wager on it. If they don't get Gaff, it may be interesting.

There's a precedent further back in the thread.

It also mentions in the same breath that the Suns have enquired about whether May could become an FA if both parties argeed to void the final year of his contract and have been told by the AFL that the FA list that is distributed at the start of the season cannot be added to.

They (the AFL) got away with it once when setting up their pet Gold Coast amateur football club project, but it would be such a bad look for an AFL run club to be gimping the FA compensation system in this way that I don't think there's any chance it will happen.

That certainly makes sense for you, but I’d be stupid to take that on! My general assessment though is I don’t see a club investing $2 million into two of the same type of player in the one off-season. Now that Polec has declared for North they’ll go cold on Gaff, IMO.

As strange as it seems the club would prefer to move Shiel on (supposedly RFA next year and although being paid unders is still on big $$$. Scully on the other hand has taken a $500k pay drop to stay with the club.

Not the exact same but there is more recent precedence:
"St Kilda and Dal Santo agreed not to act on a trigger clause in his existing contract that could have required him to be re-signed for next season had either party demanded a new contract. Dal Santo could then transfer to North as a free agent rather than through trading, much to the chagrin of rival clubs."

This was posted by Crimson Mask on EBW.

A great interview with Mick McGuane and it shows why he has one of the brilliant minds in football and it is a waste that he is not involved with the Pies at AFL level (despite his habits). He also opens up about Millane, his estrangement with Tony Shaw for over 20 years (and it was a result of this he sought a trade to Carlton). Brilliant interview but it goes for 50 minutes.

Also EBW is reporting that Rob Waters from Ch10 is reporting that Moore is MOST likely off to Sydney. That in itself is not new, but what is, is EBW advised that Rob Waters is Liam Pickering's brother in-law
