Beams is a good player but at anything like full fitness Wells sh@ts all over him for class.
Correct.

Both fully fit, Wells superior. Oozes that pure class.

Still on our salary cap, as he was acquired as a FA. I think it’s the “Buddy Franklin” rule.
Difference between restricted free agent and free agent.

Restricted means club makes offer that Could be matched hence the contract stays valid ongoing regardless. To prevent manipulation. So contract lives through its full term, retirement or not.

Free agent? you can go to whom you please, so Wells as a free agent, freely retires, then it's done, and there is nothing on the cap next year.

Blind kicks out of the pack are not classy - he's a good footballer but in the eyes of some here he becomes a better player as soon as he leaves.

As for his behavior in the media after leaving the club . . . not one trace of class.
Yes there is a bit of players becoming better players the longer they are away from our club.

Does not necessarily make it so.

I probably should've explained myself a little bit better.

So at the moment we're to assume that Wells is currently contracted for $500,000.00 in 2019, the final year of his contract.

My query is whether we can offer a new contract with $300,000.00 in 2019 and $300,000.00 in 2020. This in turn would be his "second contract" with us, and sounds favourable to him because he's earning an extra 100k.

Then between now and the trade period/list lodgements, Wells "visits the surgeon" and "receives some horrible news" about his foot, resulting in a "career-ending injury."

Insurance covers his losses (not sure how that works), we pay him $300,000.00 in 2019 and nothing in 2020, hence saving ourselves $200,000.00.

There has to be some sort of unprecedented scenario where we can rort the cap!

Unless of course Wells gets himself fit and plays next year and performs...
Wells is a very honourable man.
Not dishonest to scam the system.

But these things could be tempting for Carlton types

Gibbs said if a deal could be done he'd go but he'd of stayed if he had to. SOS traded him.
Gibbs requested a trade and Carlton retained him a year earlier. He requested a trade again last year and Carlton accepted an offer from Adelaide that was way more than what he was actually worth, that SOS would have been mad to refuse. It’s not like SOS pushed him out the door, Gibbs had been actively trying to get to Adelaide since the end of 2016.

Beams coming out saying he’ll honor the contract doesn’t mean anything, Brisbane knows they will only have him for 2 Seasons, if a Victorian club makes a worthwhile offer then the deal will happen, why would you turn down a 1st rounder and a player for someone who’s only hanging around short term.

Yep. What he said means a bit but not a lot. On face value he's clearly willing to stay so that might be the end of it.

However if Brisbane want or need to make room to land a big fish they might yet have a word in Beams ear and tell him hes up for trade. His trade value now is at its absolute peak and will be two fifths of bugger all in two years time.

Yeah nah.

Gibbs was happy to stay at Carlton but If a deal could have been done hed of been down to leave. Sos pushed him out the door.

He was happy to stay if a deal couldn’t be done. That doesn’t mean he didn’t request the trade himself, twice. Stop trying to change history and accept you’re wrong on this.

Anyone like Hombsch from Port Adelaide? Could be gettable with a 3rd/4th and cover the loss of Dunn and Moore if he goes. Saw that Port are trying to move him and Pittard to get some of the SA boys in this years draft.
