Would a non existent 2019 draft be such a bad thing when taking into consideration IQ, Kelly, the two Irish kids and quite a young list anyway?
No it wouldn't. It'd be likely to make next year's trade and draft period really boring, but oh well. We will still probably find 1 senior player with 3 late picks anyway.

My only issue with being non-existent in the draft is that we're looking at Dunn, Goldsack, Wells, Reid, Varcoe and Greenwood all potentially retiring next season. Maybe not all, but can definitely see a handful of that bunch doing so. Won't be too good if we go into deficit so much that we're left with few draft picks to be able to cover those spare list spots, or are left with the spuds at picks 75 and above.

The risk is Dunn, Goldy, Reid. We need Shaz and Moore to stand up and play and given their injury profile is a risk. I think the irish boys, Hopefully Kelly, Mclarty, Roughy, Magden, Murphy,Hopefully IQ and even Miohcek gives us some coverage in defence. I think Bucks likes the more mobile ball users down back even if we give up height and this is covered even more by a dominant midfield.

Wells, Varcoe and greenwood hopefully by the end of the year should struggle to get a game. Kids like C.Brown, T. Brown, Daicos should be challenging for selection. Stephanson, Degoey, Aish, Thomas should be challenging for midfield time and thats without Wills who may or may not be there. I think IQ will also push into the midfield and Murphy to the wing.

Point is we get the elite kids in now and start the development now to replace those players you highlighted. Dont worry about a pick for some random next year when we know the talent is elite now and our discount and access makes them available.

Younger Daics will be around in two years and by all accounts he could be a top 10 talent.

Likely to have a couple of rookies we can elevate if we want to to cover a couple of list spots. Plus this year, we look like having gone two from at the rookie draft this year. We'll pick up a contributor or two if we have a few late picks.

What about Collingwood's father-son and Academy players?

Collingwood's late deal to finally land Dayne Beams leaves the Pies with 1222 draft points in total, which they'll need to spend on NGA prospect Isaac Quaynor (a bid is expected on him around pick 15) and father-son defender Will Kelly (a bid could come around the pick 25 mark).

Alone, the 1222 points will be enough to pay for Quaynor (given the discount they receive), and if the Pies need to go into a points deficit for Kelly, it will likely only impact their second-round pick next year.

The trade period is done, but the maneuvering of picks will continue. Expect a couple more surprises to come.

Are you ruling out our ability to trade next year and thus bring in points?
Actually no. I did raise that possibility in another thread yesterday when I was suggested that tradedraft might be in for a dull time next year. There may be a player or two in demand who we are prepared to release by this time next year.

He turned to crap after a few rounds anyway.

Did enough in his first few games to show he had the tools to make it. Got found out a bit so had to go back and work on some issues. Sounds pretty much like most debutants.... until the drug issue.

Ah I forgot about that. Could senior list Mihocek and Appleby maybe? It could also mean we keep someone like Crocker on the list for one more year than expected.

They are counting our pick 57 in that points tally.

A few around here were stating that compensation picks can't be used for Academy or Father/Son points?
Is that correct?.. I can't find any documentation on it.

It's unclear whether we can.

I don't know how they got to 1222. Draftguru has us as 1215, which is exactly what the points value is. Draftguru also counting the compensation.

Good thing Hine traded away our 2nd round pick this year for a rookie drug addict. :drunk:

Even without the drug ban it was such a stupid trade to make.

and on it goes when will people get it no-one knows

I've virtually written him off.
Virtual is one thing.
If he’s fully up and about and delivering the ball... we are an even better side.

Hear he’s working even now on the gym. And he’s looking to make every post a winner - if it works for us. Big extra piece

Unfortunately getting real close to that point, if fit he would be our maybe 8th midfielder in the pecking order.
Pity because he could do some real damage.
If fully fit he’s not 8th. Far higher than that.

That will be his challenge. We get the games from him this year and he’s healthy then he’s a major weapon.

Hope I must admit is my first feeling...
But it springs eternal.

There’s no way that the trade and draft period will be boring next year even if we have shit picks.

All we need is the promise from Apex36 of free gobbies and this place will go off!
Plus Tradedraft's welcome thread anxiety resulting in him continually posting the same twitter article. That had me in stitches. I was at work and it made it impossible for me to pretend I was working.

Correct and it didn't cost us a 2nd rounder so many morons can't get over it

we traded pick 38 it turns out

for Murray and 51

We got murray and moved down the order 13 spots

It did cost a 2nd rounder for Murray and a 3rd.

Or are you suggesting we have a 2nd round pick still? Where did it go to magic fairy land?

Just had a quick look at the ages of the six potential retirements I talked about.

I think Greenwood and Varcoe may stay around beyond 2019 and maybe Reid if his body isn't completely shot (still 29 when the 2019 season starts).

But I think Wells, Dunn and Goldsack will retire next season.

The deal was solid , the ASADA stuff couldn't be known for what he showed the deal was good. what would of you done better.

Seriously just no.

I am hoping we get IQ and Kelly with our last two picks with no one having bid on them. What we want is to get them as cheap as possible.

People wanting bids early on either of those two players, just so we feel better about the Beams trade, when in reality it will be worse for us, has me scratching my head about some poeple.

Getting Beams and both our targeted players without a deficit in points is a big win.

No, I don’t want a bid before any of our players. I’m just mentioning the fact that if we didn’t trade 18 this year, we could have picked up another elite talent along with Quaynor & Kelly.

You need to look up what the Cost of something is
