He could play to 34-35? Who knows, reckon his got 3 top line years left and could then play as a forward in his later years.

Here's hoping so, at the end of the day he 100%m improves us for the next 2-3 years at a minimum. With Quaynor soaking 18 the deal doesn't look to bad all be it favourable to Lions.

Here's hoping he becomes a multi-flagpie.

Murray Deal: Pick 38 downgraded to pick 51 (Pick points to be used for Will Kelly). I'm sure the club will recover from that.

Beams is basically for a 2019 1st rounder. The picks flicked back, 41 & 44, will help us secure our 1st rounder for this year, Isaac Quaynor.

2018 Draft
Pick 13 bid we get Isaac Quaynor with 41 & 44
Pick 14 bid we get Isaac Quaynor with 41 & 44 and some change for Will Kelly
Pick 15 bid we get Isaac Quaynor with 41 & 44 and some change for Will Kelly
Pick 16 bid we get Isaac Quaynor with 41 & 44 and some change for Will Kelly
Pick 17 bid we get Isaac Quaynor with 41 & 44 and some change for Will Kelly
Pick 18 bid we get Isaac Quaynor with 41 & 44 and some change for Will Kelly
Pick 19 bid we get Isaac Quaynor with 41 & 44 and some change for Will Kelly

Those figures appear to be well off by my esrimations - given that picks 41 + 44 only bring in 774 points the earliest bid those two picks would match on their own would be at pick 19.

How I see things on balance
We were close to winning a premiership this year. We have a real window in the next 2 seasons.
We did so this year without several of our stars for much of the season.
Plus side
We have retained our stars - Moore, Elliott, Dunn (Shaz) and can inject them in to our side from the GF next season. Retained Langdon too
We have added a star mid in Beams and some depth in key positions (Roughead)
We will likely add some future talent in Quaynor (would likely have used pick 18 on him) and Kelly & the Irish boys.

Foregone
We have foregone a potential future star in 2019 with our first pick, but he'd have taken time to mature most likely.
Good as Grundy, as an example of a late first round pick that has excelled, even he wasn't offering a great deal in his first 2 seasons, when our window is clearly open.
We have only lost Fasolo and will delist some other players of our own accord.
We have no major losses.

Of our major opponents in this trade period
Richmond had added Lynch, but conceded a lot of their depth (Conca, Miles, Ellis, Lloyd). They had few unavailable in the prelim to add in.
WCE have missed on Tim Kelly, that helps and lost Lycett. Naitanui and Gaff can strengthen them.
Hawks are not so close to us I don't think. Gain Wingard, lose Burton and Scully may not be much help next season
Giants have lost Shiel, Lobb, Scully which weakens them
Dees add May and lose Hogan

We've lost no-one we weren't happy to. We've added a top-class midfielder, we will have a bit for the future. We have a few key players to return.
We have an improved culture.
We are enough.

So can the Fas compo (57) help us with bid points or not? I can’t find a definitive answer?

If not did we stuff up by giving 56 instead of 57?

Unless that was a sticking point and Lions wanted 56 for points for themselves.

Definitely points attached to the Fas pick. I think we'll be fine for our boys on draft night, and leave a couple of late spots for Hine to weave some magic (or hopefully snag Atu B)

Man, this stuff about picks, points, rounds, compensation, getting bent over, doing the bending over etc does my farkin head in.
I skim read that stuff and read the stuff about what we need in terms of players. I've been around....sort of.

I'm so relieved they finally got the deal done. Never have I been through this trade period this stressed. Now I can get proper sleep tonight.

We never been this Close to getting a Big Trade done so late in Trade Period

Only issue I think really is if we get a bunch of retirements next year (Dunn, Goldsack, Reid, Wells, Varcoe, Greenwood) we might not have enough decent draft picks to cover that loss, plus any delistings that may occur.

Relying on academy and Irish prospect by the looks.

Add to your list Pendles, Beams and Steele will all bow out around a similar time to each pother too (3-4 years).

I get that we have some youth now, but my point is we that's at least six potential outs for us at the end of 2019. We may not have the draft picks to get six players to cover those spaces that are of any quality, and that doesn't count players like Wills, Crocker and Lynch who may be delisted.

Only way we lose this deal is if we do really poorly next year and our first-rounder becomes a high pick.

As it is, an end-of-first-round pick is not that exciting. Two end-of-first-round picks is not that far off what we paid for Aish, really. In some ways we paid more for Nathan Freeman... if a pick ten can be that useless for us, there's no guarantee that two pick 18s would produce something better than what we've got (Beams plus points).

We lose if Beams has a tantrum and decides he doesn’t need like Bucks again. He dicked around Brisbane, who is to say he won’t do the same to us again

Hit the FA market? I have no idea who is on the list for next year, but that could be a fair chunk of cap leaving we can look to replace for nothing (trade wise)

Yeah I am happy. Rather traded Next Year 2nd Rounder instead of 1st but Did it and got Picks in the 40 to help get Quyanor and Kelly.

Glad we Recurite3d 3 Talls

Me too. I love it that we're bringing in the Irish lads! I hope they are as big a hit as Cox has been. Keane and Tohill could well turn out to be the biggest masterstroke of this trade period. I think we overpaid on Beams but he is class in the midfield and has some important flow on effects within the team. I'm not as big on Roughy as you but some ruck depth is welcome! I'm glad you had a good night TD even if it was a nail biter!

Trying to prove your point using Freeman as an example of a top 10 pick is meaningless.

It's just as easy to counter argue with the example of Grundy at pick 18.

Obviously it depends on where all 4 teams finish next year, but it’s a hefty price.

I don’t see us making the Grand Final.
They gave this year's pick nine, we gave pick eighteen, they gave next year's first which in all likelihood will be a better pick than our first next year PLUS we got some picks back.
Don't think I will ever understand why some of you just say blatant lies to suit some odd bent you seem to have.
You said we paid more than what Essendon paid for Shiels, that is not true, by all means you can have an opinion if we paid too much but will never understand why add plain old lies to the post.

Was a Stressful Night during Trade Period but feel lot more Relaxed since the Trade Period Ended. Left it close

I'm mainly annoyed about myself for listening to Trade Radio for 3 weeks when all they do is read aloud all the tweets I read myself anyway. Other than the occasional manager interview... what a waste of time.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll listen again next year.
It suck me in too, and will again next year as well.

Bolt is an athlete not the norm, your ‘undeniable point’ was that ‘athletes’ slow down at 27/28.
My point, you are incorrect.

Even though you're using a stupid anomaly as your example, you're STILL wrong because in 2012 at 26 he ran 9.63 seconds and then 4 years later at 30 he ran 9.81, which actually proves my point even further that he slowed down after 27.

So thanks for proving my point when you thought you were disproving it. How can people argue against such basic facts?
