Didn't like hearing Dan Richardson coming out and saying “Ideally we would have liked to have got an elite mid like (Adam) Treloar, but that’s not going to happen"...

Pies offering their pick 7 and a 2nd rounder for next year surely we could trump pies by offering our first 2 pics for this year and next....treloar had us and pies as his preferred until u chose pies, surely GWS would much prefer 2 first rounders and have no doubt GWS could easily push the deal back to Richmond....

Do we actually want to use our war chest? or are we scared to spend up big, look players like danger and treloar u have to go above n beyond in payment terms...

Well, he's had a better year than Ellis, Newman, Grigg, Lambert, Edwards, Houli, Hunt, Conca...

I'm not saying he's the answer. I'm saying he'd make us better.

He is Moneyball
Ok so lets go through them.

Ellis has comparable stats but 8-9 years younger and getting better.
Newman has retired
Grigg has played a different role. Can Stanton play as a run with player? Nope
Lambert more an inside contested ball winner. Once again totally different position to Stanton
Edwards.........please the kid was in All Australian form prior to his injury. Way better than Stanton and younger
Houli has more runs on the board, specialist on kickouts and excels at that (Minus the blip  )
Hunt more a lock down defender, once again not a role Stanton can play
Conca was injured all year, another inside mid, different role.

So off all there you mentioned really only Ellis and Houli you can compare. Hes not taking Houlis spot and although his stats are comparable you take a 21 year old Ellis whos still improving over a 29 year old Stanton whos about to start slowing down.

He is Moneyball but as an outside runner id rather persist with Ellis and McIntosh and even Menadue to a degree. Far better for our future and with not a lot to be gained.

One area we really struggled in last year was points for. We still need goal kickers and thats precisely why id prefer to see Stevie J to come in and play permanent forward.

But he is not Moneyball!!!

The objective is winning premierships and Stantons career is not in our window!!!

Now, now, we all know that stats don't lie when they support your position and stats do lie when they don't support your position. ;)

I didn't know Ellis's numbers before I did a compare. Strikingly similar, with Stanton just shading him in most areas.

But yeah, let's not even entertain it because Essendon fans don't like him.

If our recruiters were ever that juvenile, they should be sacked on the spot.

Collingwood are offering x2 first round picks.

Even if Collingwood offered x1 First round and x1 Second round pick, those picks still equate to more points then what our x2 first round picks equate to.

Need more of:
Goals
Contested footy
Inside mid

Need less of:
uncontested footy
Stanton

Bro's 30th sat night so no time between Bathurst shootout etc & that, seems i didn't miss much anyway.
i have the last 3 AFL Prospectus's, Townsend not a great kick or ball winner, he's a Tagger which we have not had since Jacko left.
DrMike Lennon well covered elsewhere on here but Grigg's contract is almost up & i not seen much if any talk about him anywhere, is he up for Trade?
Any uncontracted player, and some contracted, is floated. If the club see's enough benefit to a trade then they'd do it.

I don't think he had a better year than Ellis, and you're stats would suggest they were on a par.
Newman offered so much more than just kicks and handballs.
Grigg had a very good year, probably his carrer best, and I dont think Stanton was in career best form this year.
Lambert is a first year player, who came off the rookie list, got injured, then held his spot in the team. Can only get better.
Edwards was in career best form prior to injury.
Houli is a set up, half back, who had a good season, except for games in which he was tagged (2, I think) and Coach Hardwicke didn't have a plan B, so his poor performance looked worse than it should've. Stanton couldn't/didn't play that role.
Hunt was brought in at no cost and served us well.
If you're saying that Stanton had a better year than Conca, you're right, but losing credibility.

lol so youre on the stanton is better than ellis wagon?

woweeeee, stick to obsessing over liverpool dude

Still waiting for a single, objectively measurable, basis upon which you justify your moronic stance.

I won't hold my breath.

His issue isnt his ability, its his consistency

He has Dons fans tearing their hair out, because he will destroy a game in one half, but then be a complete passenger the next

If he delivered week in week out, he would be one of the best in the league, but he doesnt so he isnt

He didn't say that. Just said they're very similar players and Stanton had a marginally better year going off stats.

Clearly one is younger and part of our future, the other could be a 1 or 2 year stop gap that this year would've made us better.

Stanton's kicking I50 is elite. Lloyd has rated it as amongst the best he's been on the end of

If Brandon Ellis had a twin, available for no trade cost, we'd be interested, yeah?

If we say no to these sorts of opportunities, we are basically just hoping everyone can get better, organically.

Sheds disappeared in a final. Again. Ditto Ellis. Too many sacred cows. I like them, but presuming a different result by doing the same thing is idiotic.

Grigg a different role? Well he's one of our best gut-runners yet Stanton has 3x the rebound 50's, more I50's, only 0.9 fewer CPs a game, the same tackles. Obviously 30% more possessions a game, too.

I hope we do improve with this list alone, but targeting those with assured output is a conversation worth having.

One shat the bed in a final. Again.

I'd like 2 Brandon Ellis's, myself. Preferably one of them with the ability to break a tag, which Stanton cops regularly.

Have GWS delisted Townsend? If so we won't need to trade for him. We can just pick him up as a delisted free agent. If they do want to trade for him, does that mean something else is gong on with GWS?

lol so youre on the stanton is better than ellis wagon?

Really! Where did I even intimate that?
Wasn't even having a go or taking a side, merely making an observation.
Liverpool jibe a bit unnecessary, maybe.
