Really if we get Yarran then I can cop that as it didnt really work out.

However to say we dont need to use our war chest on an A grade eventually is wrong IMO. You don't ask your better players to take unders to land some GWS potential delistee and Yarran.

I think Yarran could be A grade and so I want him. If they stuff up the Yarran trade then I think questions need to be asled because we had no one nominate us but him and they couldnt work a trade. It's imperitive Ben Lennon resigns now or else it's been a disaster. To take the next step we need to make moves. It sounds like we tried but failed and so you have to question our pitch.

Personally in hindsight I would have had a crack at Bennell even with the partying and offield issues.

Undertaker you better show you're face and explain yourself
What's to explain, he passed on what he had heard and unfortunately the club didn't have the ability to close those deals for various reasons, including being played by Bennell & his manager.

I see Paige Cardona was tweeting Jed Anderson wants out of Hawthorn, year left on his deal so would be tough. He's one I'd be keen to look at.

Few people have stated names in this thread and as bo alluded to recently , you can put a spin on anything to make people believe or not believe something . Experience upon here indicates that every year the same spin gets brought out .
'We have a doozy on the go , if we get them we will be top 4 ' .' The club is going hard and the player is showing great interest ' .
Take it for what it is and that is it could be factual or it could be a anonymous lonely person who thrives on controversy making shit up to have you all salivating and to make themselves feel important and wanted .
I strongly doubt people who regularly post alleged high level confidential details on a public forum , would have the trust of 'good realiable sources '.
Another off season , another first rounder into the club which can IMO only be a good thing .
Oliver has the potential to provide more value for money that any player , outside of Dangerfield , who has been linked to trade talks .
I still think Dan Richardson has his poker face on and wouldn't be surprised if the recent insinuation that the club is happy to go to the draft is to signal to other clubs we are not desperate and to avoid a club driving up the price of a player we are interested in.
Have always believed Dan and BH are the best in the business and continually use smoke screens and have no reason to change my view .

Yarran is worth about 12 if he plays his best which I expect he will.

Townsend + Bugg for free would be ideal. How do we make it happen.

Yarran not worth 12 at present IMO. About pick 25 is fair. He's been playing reserves in the wooden spoon side. Great potential yes.

People are saying Bugg is off to Melbourne but I heard his manager on trade radio talking about the Demons interest and he was asked if he will end up at Melbourne. His answer was "Pretty sure he will end up at a Melbourne club".
He didn't seem to want to single out Melbourne suggesting other teams are interested. Can't see why we wouldn't be one of them.

Anderson is capable of playing a small forward role. He has the speed, agility and skill. He's also a very good clearance player like Edwards. I'd prefer Yarran's run off HBF and Jed up forward just so Vlastuin can be our big inside mid, no need for Townsend.

As far as FA targets are concerned there are a few in the next few years coming up

The sound of a farmer in central Queensland waiting for rain...'next year.....next year'
Well soon enough all those Free Agents will dry up!

I don't really get the desire for a "big fish". As a long time Richmond fan would you really want premiership success to come off the back of recruiting say Patrick Dangerfield? I mean it would feel like we we were sharing it with Adelaide because he will always be an Adelaide player to me.

*Besides I actually don't think clubs that recruit big fish go very well after. Look at Carlton now, and look at where Sydney will be...

As a Richmond fan I like players who have their backs to the wall and are either looking to prove themselves at a new club or looking for redemption.

Miles and Hunt are great examples. Both got thrown to the wolves and both are seeking redemption.

That's why I think if we end up with players like:

Yarran - mistreated by previous coach and club.
Townsend - overlooked behind an excess of talent and overrated talent.
J.Anderson - starved of opportunity despite being capable of getting games at pretty much any other club in the AFL.

If we get these 3 blokes and keep our first then it's a massive win. You usually have to pick up your top end talent in the draft so keeping our first is ideal for the future, and keeping Lennon.

Totally agree. Still a long way to go. Bring in Yarran, Townsend and another 1st rounder. That with improvement of Ellis and Lennon and we are in a better spot than 12 months ago.

Actually there is one more player I want

With everyone bitching about us not getting a huge star (trade period hasn't even started yet btw), can anyone big an instance of getting big trades in the off-season actually improved a team (other than the already top of the line Hawks)?
Seriously all big improving teams have come from within with natural improvement, draft and some cheap pickups.

There were/are some quality players on the table from other clubs but it seems that we've spent all our time going after a big fish, talking about it in the media. Geelong finished 9th this year and will probably add Dangerfield Henderson Selwood & Smith. All of them address needs that Geelong need to fill and they will no doubt be back in the 8 again next year. Watch Fremantle pick up Bennell for a second round pick and maybe McCarthy, watch the Dogs get Suckling for free, Port will add Dixon, WCE are adding Redden & Jetta, Sydney gets Leuenberger, Collingwood will add Treloar and maybe Aish, Saints getting Carlisle & Freeman. Everyone around us looks to be getting stronger, while we seem to be happy landing Yarran(who should be good) and talking up a GWS kid in Townsend who has struggled to play regular footy for 4 years, like he is the answer to our inside midfielder needs.

As I said there was value available that would help our desire to take that next step available and yet for all the talk of the war chest it seems all we've done is grabbed the loose change from the cup holder in Dans Jeep and grabbed the bargain chocolates from the counter at the servo.

If people think we are going to fall off next year if we don't get a star they have rocks in their heads.
The biggest reason for finals success is experience. We have been there 3 times in a row. We know how to get there.
We have a young enough group that natural development will happen.
If we can bring in Yarran and Townsend and maybe another player. Even just our pick 12, we will still improve.
IMO we need a ruckman though...

May aswell shut down this thread. According to Richardson in the HSun today if we get Yarran and Towsend that will do.
We'll probably even give Carlton our first pick. Pretty bland trade period after all the huff and puff.

Totally goes against what Gale said bout knowing where the list is & being ruthless etc

Yeah it does. Fact remains we tried, but haven't been able to attract the big names like Pies and Cats. You have to ask why?
Big club, huge membership, play at the G, we're making finals. All I can think is we simply don't want to pay market value.

Exactly ! Well if they are still trying to cut costs we might as well lose Blair as he hasn't been to productive in recent years

Obviously the draft is the club's second preferred option if we've been aggressively trying to recruit big players.

I have calmed down since last night and if we dont get an A grade player the following scenario wont be so bad.

Firstly is Anderson a poor mans Bennell?

Step 1 Lock up Lennon for another 3 years.
Step 2 Trade Astbury to Brisbane for their 3rd round pick
Step 3 Yarran for 2016 2nd round pick (next years depth in the draft is meant to be better)
Anderson for Brisbanes 3rd round pick
Townsend for 2015 3rd round pick
Step 4 Give Stevie J a 1 year with option of 2nd contract
Step 5 shop Griffiths around for a pick from 19 to 25.*
Step 6 Draft this A chee bloke with pick 12 and best available big bodied mid with our 2nd.
Step 6 Upgrade Lambert with our token pick.

* If we can get a decent pick for Griffiths hopefully that could land us Dunkley.

Thoughts?
Am I being unrealistic with Anderson for our third?
