TOP PICKS ON TABLE

St Kilda looms as a target for clubs looking to slide back or trade up the board after the Saints nabbed pick No.8 for their Josh Battle free agency compensation, giving them picks No.7 and 8.

Could we look at targeting the Saints pick 8 for say 11 & 32?

I really want us to get pick 2 or 3 from
north or WCE but don't want to lose pick 6 in doing so. Given it sounds like it would "need" to include 6, getting pick 8 in after that trade still gives us a great look at the same player.

Take Norths pick 2 for pick 6&20 (late picks to Brisbane). Brisbane more inclined to deal with us then as we can guarantee Ashcroft bid doesn't come until pick 3 earliest.

Stick fat with 11and12 for Bolton and 14 for Baker.

Finish Trade week with 1,2,8,12,14,24,25,35 and whatever else is left.

Allows us to then trade 14 and 24 for future 1sts in 2025 so we can death ride 2 clubs

Brisbane cannot currently match a bid on Ashcroft at pick 1.

Their points total is 1089 and the max deficit is 1167.

They will need at least an additional 730 to match a bid on Marshall if it is top 20.

There is absolutely no reason for us not to bid on Ashcroft at pick 1 unless we are being adequately compensated. Ashcroft is born in December and still equally as good as any other number 1. His brother just won a norm smith.

If we bid it eliminates a shitload of draft picks. It also potentially means Marshall doesn’t get matched which means all picks after him go up 1 position in value, if course we could be the ones to take Marshall.

So other than their first and future first, which young gun do we want? Coleman?
If we bid, do Brisbane trade next years picks, futures, into this year's so they get the points? And say ashcroft is selected by us would he be upset it went down that way?

That's cos they're smart. This is the worst year in history for the number 1 pick ever. The media likened it to Raynors year but that was universally down to Raynor or Mcluggage. This year could be out of 6- 8 players. Smillie was no. 1 now tanking. FOS hasn't lifted. Jaggas a bloody accumulator with lousy skills. Hilarious how Hotton still rated 10 on back of long term injury. Who bloody knows who'll be the picks of the litter, and who bloody knows if Toce is a gun or a lazy appointment a la Louie Meehan. Our next 10 years is gonna be predicated by this draft. The 5 from the 2021 top 30 haul haven't set the world on fire.

Just because there’s half a dozen candidates for pick-1, doesn’t mean it’s a bad year to have pick-1. Pick-1 is rarely the best player in the draft even in those years where there is supposedly a standout #1 (Gibbs, Deledio, Murphy, McGrath, Walsh, Boyd, Scully).

Given we will have 1 and 6, there’s no better year to have half a dozen players seen worthy of #1 as we will get 2 of them !

A lot of unnecessary melting in here over no standout #1 and the compo picks pushing our picks back.

It all means nothing in the grand scheme of things. There’ll be 30 or so really well credentialed kids and we will get at least half a dozen of them.

Good times !

Raynor and McCluggage were different years.

We should just give them picks 41 and 72 for pick 2.

Right you are. Got my wires crossed. McGrath another Dud no. 1 pick who's achieved sfa. Wow just had a look at raynors draft.... bizarrely the players taken in the top 20 are inferior to the next 10 picked with Oscar Allen, Balta, Sam Taylor, Brent Daniels, Tom Dekoning, Tim Kelly....

To me it's no question we MUST bid on Ashcroft at 1. Obviously they match. Whoever is our top pick... FOS, Jagga, Lalor...??? Is hardly gonna have a tantrum and sabotage a Dusty-esque career and tank to be Richard Lounder because some other kid got 10 grand. Probably better off not having the pressure of everyone mentioning they were the number 1 pick whilst they're developing.

Need to get another early pick '2 or 3' on top of our No 1 and expected pick 6

1. Sam Lalor
GWV Rebels/Vic Country

Midfielder/forward, 187cm, 30/8/2006
Talent League stats (avg): 23 disposals, 6.3 clearances, 6 inside 50s
The Age’s August top 30: No.5

The next Dustin Martin could be on his way to Tigerland. Most recruiters who spoke to this masthead believe Richmond are weighing up Lalor or Finn O’Sullivan at No.1. Many non-Richmond talent scouts also rank Lalor that highly despite a serious hamstring injury ending his season amid a severely interrupted campaign. They are confident he will get on top of his physical issues in a full-time AFL environment, and with improved fitness. Lalor’s combination of power, physicality, kicking skills, game-changing ability and penchant for impacting the game as a midfielder and forward make him a closer projection to Martin than Christian Petracca.

Pick #11 + Baker for pick #3 is the best Eagles will get for #3

#6 + #18 will get pick #2 if we decide thats how we play it

But i would be wanting to hold #6 if we could
#1 , #2 , #3 , #6 , #21 , #22 would be a fantastic result if Blair could get that somehow

Highly doubt Eagles would be willing to trade pick 3 for 11 and Baker when it would be better for them to just giving us 14 for Baker in that case.

Any chance we end up with picks 1, 2 and 3?
That would be perfect.
Even 1, 2 & 6.

Seems like we're keen on 2 so why not get both.

FOS
Lalor
One of Jagga, Langford, Armstrong, Draper or Smilie

Might be only left with a late 20's pick and one in the 30's to get a speedy project player and a KPF.
Maybe a 2nd round pick in next years draft

Absolutely

WC future 1st is a top 5 pick so a slight upgrade on 6

Bolton for 3 and Baker for 14

So 2024 1,3,14 and then we're likely to have 3-4 picks before 30 before we even move any of our later picks to trade up or into 2025

2025 likely we'd have pick 1 and 3 plus whatever else we traded in.

4x picks in the top 4 or consecutive drafts is elite
Crazy by West Coast so couldn’t see it. Seems fair on both sides but slows the rebuild.

Not for us it is. As well as our No 1 pick and first pick of the 2nd round and subsequent rounds plus the PSD and rookie drafts we are just lucky that we have players who are leaving who have capitol.

This draft is choc full of talent and we will have the most first-rounders. Players up to 30 in this draft would likely be a first-rounder in any other draft, like 12 to 20.

Why do you think North and the Eagles want to give up picks 2 and 3 as they want multiple first-rounders due to the level of talent on offer. If all else fails we will still have 1, 6, 10, 11, 14, 20, 23, 24

Hopefully we can get our hands on pick 2 or 3 and GC 13 (longshot) which will add to the above picks which will turbo charge our rebuild.

Just on 2021 Gibcus and Brown look like beauties. I rate Judson Clarke and will be a regular. Banks is looking ok and Sonsie im 50/50. If we get 3 out of 5 making it we have done well. Its a numbers game the more high end picks we have the more likely we will nail them.

Idealy we get #10 & #11 for Bolton with salary 25%
#6 + #20 for Rioli with #39 going back and salary %25%
#14 for Baker with #29 going back
#19 for #41,47,57,66

Baker + #11 for #3 would be a good result
Spot on - except I definitely wouldn't give 29 back to WC.
14 might become 17. More than fair for Baker.

Not impossible but think it'll be more no than yes TT. I think our best chance in getting 1, 2 (compo) and 4 is getting band 1 compo pic for graham which we will need the eagles to come to the party.
Then do a deal for their pick 3 (will become pick 4) which I'm more confident on.

GWS will trade for 2 or 3, book it. Saints will be interested too

Their is no way north or eagles would entertain GWS picks 15, 16.

Saints yes as they have two top 10 picks.

I still think we are a very good chance of getting pick 3

"With Gold Coast having pick No.6 on the table for Daniel Rioli, and the out-of-contract Baker wanting to join the Eagles, the possibility of pick No.3 being involved in in a mix that would see the Eagles get a pick go back their way and be able to land Baker has also been raised".

Is there any sense in us giving next year's 1st for North's pick 2? Bet on ourselves to not be last with an injury free list. Next year's draft not being that strong and filled with academy players.
I guess we have to weigh up whether Lalor / FOS is better than Sharp / Ludowyke / Duursma?
