What North Melbourne would want to part with Simpkin, would not be cost effective.

All the pie in the sky narratives comes down to 'will team x part with player z', North Melbourne will not part with Simpkin!
Yep, same as GWS are not going to part with this boards obsession, Tom Green, but apparently, he’s coming next year NOT!!(imo)

I’d prefer Talia over Tarrant due to age and injury but don’t mind if we go for either. If the club think the boys just need a resfresh and we can have one last crack while still taking kids in the draft then I am all for it. I’ve changed my opinion on this a few times though.
Talia has the turning circle of a double team of oxen, or HQ Holden (take your pick) . Tarrant is the better player if fit...

The Tarrant trade to me feels more like the Hodge, Mitchell, Birchall type play where they're a coach as much as a player.

I might have looked at it differently if we didn't have the best draft hand in the league this year.
We wanted Dave to stay but couldn’t convince him.

The role he plays takes the pressure off Grimes, Broad and Balta.

Having that type in our backline is vital to how our backline as a group function.

Talia or Tarrant are replacements for Dave while we are still in the window.

I think it’s a smart move, can you imagine the backlash from supporters if we miss winning another GF because we don’t have a backline to compete with the best

And as you stated we are investing heavily in the draft. Ticking all boxes

You know this how? Will be hilarious if he does come across, watch the tantrums on the Norf board and the downplaying of his abilities
They’re already convincing themselves he isn’t best 22. 🤣🤣

I am fascinated if they Lose Tarrant.
Then they will get compensated likely with pick 21 after their selection 20 in the second round.
So then the trade for CJ is a seperate transaction yes? Would we be looking to somehow get pick 21 which will be 23 or so for CJ? They’d have picks 1,20,21,38,69. They’d probably then just walk CJ to the PSD? can’t see how the CCJ /Tarrant trade happens if they get compensated

Rich IN Tarrant
OUT: CJ and Chol and no compo pick
North fans are dreaming if they think they will get that compensation.

The only way is if the afl is looking to do north a favour as we know this formula is a mystery

If you're comparing them based on their durability Tarrant is well ahead. Yes Tarrant missed half of the year, but it was with a rather abnormal kidney injury. Before that he barely missed at all in the years prior.

Guessing our interest in Tarrant means Talia not coming? Maybe club has worked out Chol compensation will be a fourth rounder which isn’t much use to us.
Talia is a backup option. Balme pretty much said so in his interview this week. Said that he's on our "small R" radar, among other players

There were no suitors for Narkle according to the HUN

Quinton Narkle will stay at the Cats given there are no suitors, while Charlie Constable is keen to get more chances but can’t find another home either.
Says it all really.

Age is just a number. Yes Tarrant won’t be around for too much longer, but 33 year old Boak and 33 year old Hawkins just had two of their best seasons of their careers. Tarrant still looks fit as anything, he’s a massive unit and someone we need if we’re to contend again next season
Harry Taylor also still looked very good in his past few seasons at the cats at a similar age and even Mumford is playing good footy
Sometimes the bigger blokes can really play good footy late into their careers if they look after themselves and manage to avoid soft tissue injury’s

Sun considering giving Towner another year

SUNS HEADING TO DRAFT
Gold Coast is now expected to take its No.3 pick to the draft - or at worst split it for two later selections - after ruling out another play for another experienced player.

The Suns got their man in Richmond’s Mabior Chol on a four-year deal and are still considering whether to offer multi-club stalwart Jake Townsend another contract.

The Suns had considered offering up pick three for an experienced player but will keep their salary cap room for experienced players after contemplating Luke Parker and Rory Lobb in recent months.

The AFL has not made a definitive ruling on the club retaining its start-of-second-round pick as part of its assistance package but given the trade period is so close, the league will surely allow the Suns to keep it.

Reckon that deal that mooted earlier in thread a good possibility

GC pick 3 and 19 or 22 for pick 7 & 15 plus Caddy

If Gold wanted a better version of Towner then Caddy would be their man.
Way i read it.The suns would split pick 3 for 2 later picks.
So if we get the deal done with the dogs which would net us 17.
More than likely we go into the 1st rnd with picks 3 & 7 for starters.

R4 couldn’t possibly be right for a 4 x 400+ contract . Rory Atkins to gc got r2 . Tarrant over the journey has been a superior player , the Q over Talia is what’s his form gonna be coming back from a 12m lay-off from knee and ankle

Mitch Cleary really does still hate us doesn't he
How’s the tweet implying we shouldn’t pick up Tarrant because of Houli

#rentfree

I know what he’s trying to get at but Houli’s body was cooked sadly. Tarrant may be older but hasn’t had many actual injuries in a long time. Only missed time this year due to a non football related surgery.

Total false equivalency - poor tweet by Cleary (again). We have people to step in next in Houli's roll, not so much Ashbury (which his decision clearly took them by surprise). Boy the standard of AFL journalism continues to plummet new depts.

Yup, those soft tissue injury’s are really a killer especially for those veteran players once they start creeping in you really need to manage them and understand that output will diminish especially when it comes to leg speed and need to miss quite a lot of games to be managed properly

Without getting anyone in trouble, one degree of separation from the horses mouth, got the update this morning he will be a Tiger, just finalising the finer details.
