There's no obsession. When he was drafted the club said they can see him being a swingman. If we were able to pick up a gun CHB in McKay as a free agent, it would only make sense to throw Gibcus forward.

Naughton played 18 games @ CHB and finished 4th in the Dogs BnF in his first year. Gibcus plays alot like him. Chris Grant went okay, as did Daniel Bradshaw. Alastair Lynch started back too.

Balta doesn't have the footy smarts to play CHF, Gibcus does IMO
Gibbo has shown very little forward craft ,,, yet with one mark in f50 all year ,, there’s time though

Yeah he’s a very hard one to judge if he didn’t have the WA connection I would put my house on him staying in Melbourne

But his recent wedding and age are those factors that means a move to WA could make sense for him and his wife

Would hate to lose him but certainly wouldn’t begrudge him for it either
It will likely come down to we offer 12m wc 2y at solid coin ,, they decide to go for 2y then return to Vic , with what we fit coming though , brown , biggy could both play his role

So between all the following player moves you don't think any moved for more money than their previous club was prepared to offer them?

Saad Bombers to Blues
Pittonet Hawks to Blues
Fogarty Cats to Blues
Young Bulldogs to Blues
Howe Demons to Pies
Lipinski Bulldogs to Pies
Kreuger Cats to Pies
Stringer Bulldogs to Bombers
Hind Saints to Bombers
Weideman Demons to Bombers
Setterfield Blues to Bombers

I could go through all Vic club lists but you get the picture. If Demons offer Weideman $350k x 2 years to stay and Bombers offer him $450k x 2 years to go, wouldn't he qualify as leaving for more money? Not that I am saying that is exactly what happened in the Weideman case, but to my understanding this sort of thing occurs all the time. A player is simply worth more to a new club than they are worth to their existing club so they convince the player to move and a large part of the inducement is some extra coin. Naturally if Weideman is worth more to Essendon this comes with concomitant extra AFL team opportunities, because that is why he is worth more to Bombers than Melbourne, ie Bombers have a shortage of that type of player, and Melbourne have a surplus. But if Melbourne offers $350k and makes it known they really want Weideman to stay, and Bombers offer $350k to go there, does Weideman go or stay? We cannot know the answer to that but it has to be the case extra money is playing a big part in many of these players' decisions to change clubs, surely?
Not sure what your point is as the vast majority of those most definitely moved for opportunity , stringer stands out as only exception and he was effectively sacked

I always suspected Broad would return home one day. He turns 30 any day now. He was pick 67 and has been a great servant so either way we win (Already sewn up F/S and surely compensation would be decent?) It would be irresponsible of the club to offer him more than 2 years on about $400k- $450k, realistically would be offering him 1 year. WCE will blow our offer away with say 3x $550k+??? This contract will set him up for life so can't begrudge him taking it. Potentially could lose all of Broad, Grimes and Tarrant down back at end of year? Hopefully some of our kids start showing they belong at senior level. Can't wait for Tom Brown to be fit cos surely he's far superior to Van Rooyen (especially since big blokes take years to develop) so he must be some part Andy Kellaway/ Andy McLeod hybrid surely???

But his Mrs has a plumb job here @7.
Does she? Thought she was just an “influencer”

Pretty sure she is pregnant as well so moving back to WA with both his and her family around would make sense

He would be a loss but a loss we can cover next year with players like brown , Gibcus , Young , Balta and also Biggy showing improvement in various roles
I also believe we have a hidden player in Luke Teal in the vfl which we are keeping a close eye on and Mutaz El Nour is another player we will be watching

I think Richmond wouldnt mind shedding some cap space with players like Broad to go all out for a KPF in 1-2 years time
Grimes might be every chance of retiring this year, so retaining Broad for another year would be better for the club o field, but family matters might pull him away.

None of the juniors are anywhere near replacing Grimes or Broady.

Hard tough resolute team players at 6'3 with their agility and versatility are not that easy to come by.

The versatility of Broad, Vlastuin, and Grimes as a trio is what made the Tigers defence so good and allowed them to take all comers .

I think people have overlooked their interoperability as a group and how lucky the RFC was to have these 3 guys together at once.

Grimes has come back to the field last year and this year and i dont think he is 80% the player he was 2-3 years ago
Broad is good and love to keep him if possible but if he need to go then he does you move on.

We dont know what players like Biggy , Gibcus , Brown , young will become once the elder statesman are gone and they might just take their games to another level

B: Vlastuin - Balta - Young
HB: Rioli - Gibcus -Brown - Short/Baker

Thats still a very fast and athletic backline that has enough talls & Smalls to gel together and become a good defensive unit

Broad was good in 2022 and this year. If Grimes, Tarrant, cotch and Jack retire then RFC needs Broad maybe more the Eagles.
Broad and Grimes make our backline tall. So replacing them with smaller players is on the cards.
We probably have the player's Miller plays down there too. Inexperienced though.
Brown starting to play ok in the VFL but untried at senior level.
Short and Rioli a bit the same.

Keep Broad or the club will do a Tarrant/Astbury.
Some people want another player from north.. and play Gibcus fwd.

This is why we should have tried RCD as a defender before we dumped him

Do we have another CCJ laying about to trade to North Melbourne?
Im just watching the Norf v Cartoon VFL game and CCJ is an absolute liability even at VFL level
half time he has kicked 1 goal 3 kicks 3 hit outs 1 hand ball playing at FF

Cant believe a players thats 200 cm 100kgs 6 years in the AFL could be this useless at VFL level
North really got smashed in that trade

Couldn’t biggy play broady role

If Grimes retires and Broad goes to WA, I could see us target Harry Himmelberg to play as a defender

He should be our target even if they dont leave

Himmelberg is a bloody good player being wasted at GWS
With Gibcus , Balta both having foward ability it would give our team so much flexibility
