Sean Darcy is contracted to 2024 which will make him a UFA then. Nank will then be 30 and Darcy will have just turned 26. Crash and bash rucks like Nank generally are worn out by 30 and rarely make much past 200 games. Would be the perfect replacement and definitely an upgrade. Would be nice to cherry pick one without wasting 5 years development and any draft picks. Jackson has taken 1 mark in 2 weeks at Freo so no prizes for guessing who's gonna get shafted out of position for the golden boy. Now's the time to plant the seed and get him hooked. Through out the club's history we've had some of the absolute champion ruckmen. Since Lee we've had occasional good years from Dear, Gale, Ottens, Simmonds, Maric. Would be great to have a dominant beast giving silver service for a change. 5 years @ $600k would probably be about right with the lure of coming back to Vic, playing at a big club on the G. What's the bet the scats will be into him?

Very injury prone ruck who we would be taking on in the back end of his career. Big no you would think.

If we got McKay I'd play Gibcus forward. Broad isn't really KP size and is also getting on. Grimes looks cooked. Miller and Biggie not sure they'll ever really make it. Young too early to tell.

McKay is better than Himmelberg so I'd go that way.
Grimes is cooked so Broad becomes more of a need. Gibcus has half a game experience a KPF. Hasn't played this year. Who knows. Last year might have been the breakout year for gibcus.

I like Gibcus but not pinning my KPF structure on him. Nor Miller. Nor Ryan.

Butler, Higgins, Tarrant just to name 3 our club was involved in. People will say Butler and Higgins left for "opportunities" but they would have got bigger offers from the Saints than we were prepared to give them. So "opportunities" is often a euphemism for more money. Tarrant got a 2 year deal from us where North were only prepared to offer a 1 year deal. So he probably has $900k on the table from us and $500k from North.

I am sure if we looked into loads of deals money has played a major part even if it is not the sole and obvious reason.
Brandon Ellis went to GCS purely for money.

CCJ ?

But Ellis also brings premiership experience and experience of being at a well run club.

He was 25/26 and so, some leadership qualities.
Ellis knew there will be no more flags at Gold coast.

Back in the old days we took players from clubs that were winning flags but got squeezed out due to salary cap pressure.

Wouldn’t be completely shocked if he made the move
His mrs is originally from WA as well

Makes Gibcus and Brown a lot more important in terms of how our list looks
Broad is an interesting one as he seems to have a few commercial interests away from the field. Would it be capable to grow on the from Perth not sure. He was promoting Tag Huer watches at the Grand Prix on the weekend

With what we got coming thru , doubt we offer him more than 12m plus we might need some extra coin for Balta if he continues this form line

Yeah he’s a very hard one to judge if he didn’t have the WA connection I would put my house on him staying in Melbourne

But his recent wedding and age are those factors that means a move to WA could make sense for him and his wife

Would hate to lose him but certainly wouldn’t begrudge him for it either

I think we need to keep Broad for another year or two. Grimes could be close to the end. Brown is injury prone and Gibcus has question marks too.
Brown injury prone?? He’s a second year player with an unfortunate fracture in his wrist, I don’t see how that qualifies him to be called injury prone, unless he had a history of injury playing junior footy?

Aren't West Coast rebuilding? Why would they want a 30 year old?
They need to spend 90% of the salary cap anyway so might just figure may as well spend it on someone with experience and can help development of younger players

I think we need to stop this obsession of playing Gibcus forward. Lets be honest, at the AFL level, failed forwards go back. Good Backs don't go forward and dominate. Naughton is really the only forward who was drafted as a back that has done OK.

Balta is a perfect example.

There's no obsession. When he was drafted the club said they can see him being a swingman. If we were able to pick up a gun CHB in McKay as a free agent, it would only make sense to throw Gibcus forward.

Naughton played 18 games @ CHB and finished 4th in the Dogs BnF in his first year. Gibcus plays alot like him. Chris Grant went okay, as did Daniel Bradshaw. Alastair Lynch started back too.

Balta is a perfect example.
Balta doesn't have the footy smarts to play CHF, Gibcus does IMO

Di$posable income in WA i$ the highe$t in the country. Everyone here drive$ around in $120K ute$ during the week and $150K German $UV'$ on the way down to Marg$ on the weekend. I think Broady'$ busine$$e$ will do ju$t fine. Plu$ I think it's hi$ wife that make$ the $eriou$ coin in the family.

he was injured last year, he's injured this year. if injury prone is too harsh for you, would you prefer it if I said 'so far he hasn't been able to avoid injury'?!?
