Re: 2011 Trade Predictions - Part II

What would Dayne Beams be worth? although he loves it at Collingwood do you think he would consider moving back to QLD with his brother at Brisbane? Could play on a HFF flank or midfield for us.

His last few weeks of the season would have pushed his value up dramatically. You'd be looking at pick 10-20+ a fringe player

As much as i hate his sleeve, i'd love him at the dons

Speaking of the beams brothers, any idea on how claye is going?

Claye has been doing good didn't play many games this year because he got an injury which kept him out for the year. Played as a forward for us kicked 2 goals on his debut and picked up 13 disposals and 5 marks in just under 2 quarters. He will become a good player.

Re: Trade Week: Rumour File

Question for the Eagles fans - Has Gaff signed a new contract or the standard 2 year deal that draftees sign?

If not, Melbourne should be sniffing about and seeing if he is open for a return & if so what it would take to get the boy home.
Scully's gone so get Gaff in. Like for like.

-----

Its extremely unlikely and I think its already been thrown around but if Harley Bennell is still keen to return to WA, maybe a 3 way trade, involving Gaff (WCE) & draft picks (Melb)?

No.

But the indication is he is just waiting on the CBA to be concluded before signing an extension. Rumour also that his dad is or has been job hunting in WA.

Lastly all interviews in the press have had him stating he would like to stay playing at the club over the next few years.

Not conclusive but it seems he will sign an extension at least.

Good news for eagles fans if true.

He had signed the 2 year deal initially. Will extend it this summer. Either way he is contracted for 2012.

Scully and Gaff are completely different players btw.

Re: Trade Week: Rumour File

Scully and Gaff are completely different players btw.

Completely different players? Please enlighten me.

Both are inside & outside midfielders
Both can win their own footy
Both have huge aerobic capacity and run all day
Both are good clearance players
Both the same height (182cm)
Both very similar in body size
Both left footers

Do you need me to continue?

Scully has a much larger bank account than Gaff and a dodgy knee but there isn’t much else that is different. Oh wait, Gaff might have a lot more loyalty than Scully and stay with his club after 2 years!

For your sake I hope he stays with the eagles or he can be even more like Scully and have a boosted bank account if he would like to play at Melbourne.

Completely different? Do you even watch footy?

I agree with you there. I reckon they similar style players.

If you watched any Eagles games this year when Gaff played you would have seen he is far from an inside mid. Played purely as a wingman/outside mid. Once he adds as bit more weight he will probably become the inside/outside mid in the Pendlebury mould.

So this year Scully and Gaff have played two different roles and probably next year as well.

Anyways, I really hope Gaff stays. He looks like a future superstar.

It's awesome when a little dig at someone's team/players goes over said person's head.

On the footy field they may be similar. How about off the field. One walked out on his club (in his home town). The other I know will stay at his team and his family are trying to move there.

Gaff also plays for a good team with a strong culture. I think that may be what he was getting at. Also, Gaff is contracted unlike Scully.

I doubt his Dad is job hunting, they have another son going through the last two years of VCE at the moment.. would be a terrible idea to move before he finishes.

Gaff is kid with good values, he'll be a one club player unless something serious happens.

Did you watch any of Gaff as a junior?

He is a more than capable inside ball winner, his role at WCE as you say is that of a winger.

Obviously being from WA i didn't see much of him other than highlights packages and other clips but from those i could see he had potential as an inside mid and that's why i said he would become an inside/outside mid once he bulks up.

Was just commenting on his current role compared to Scullys.

Re: Trade Week: Rumour File

I believe a three way deal could be done between Adelaide, Brisbane and fremantle, in which tippet would head to brisbane, clarke would go to freo and freo's first round pick (16?), as well as compo pick attained in the palmer/GWS situation (End of first round) would head to adelaide. there may be some pick upgrade/Downgrading needing to happen, but i otherwise believe this is a win, win, win deal for all clubs involved. Adelaide may as well get something decent for tippett whilst they still can, and this would far outweigh what they would end up getting next year(second and third rounder), when his contract runs out and he demands a trade.Clarke gets what he wants and Freo get there man effectively for a first rounder, as they were gifted the compo pick, as palmer is clearly not worth a first rounder, he wasnt even in the best 22? so they arent really losing much there..

Anyway, what do Freo, Brisbane and Crows fans think of this?

If you think thats win-win-win deal, then give recruiting in the AFL a miss as a job - you clearly have no idea.

Seriously, try again.

This is the most illogical part.

Why on earth would FFC think "Yeah we got lucky with the Palmer compo so lets just give it away to be fair"?

We got overs for Palmer, I agree. But you don't just give away you're good fortune because you know you did well. Madness.

i agree with you, and i worded my argument very badly. what i should have said was, adelaide arent going to take just the first rounder, as they believe tippett is worth more than that. by adding the compo pick, it may just get the deal done, and they wont have to add a player that was in their best 22, which i believe the crows would have asked for if te compo pick wasnt offered. sorry for not getting my point across in the first post, i wasnt trying to say that they shouldnt give the compo away, just simply, that it would be needed to get the deal done smoothly :)

Fair enough.

What I think you're overlooking is that the compo pick is probably worth MORE than pick 16 due to its flexibility. I think you;re also discounting the leverage, in whatever amount it exists, in Mitch wanting to play at Freo and being uncontracted. It affects how much Freo will pay, even only slightly, which means 2 Rd 1 picks is probably overs.

Re: 2011 Trade Predictions - Part II

Setanta O'Hailpin to Richmond for Pick 55

But wait, I thought that pick was going to be used for Brock McLean...

Similar around the ground. Gaff has an edge with his disposal by foot and Scully has better hands and better lateral movement/ core strength.
