This is one other thing my mate mentioned. Points currently go up to pick 74 but that was set pre covid when list sizes were bigger and that's around how many picks used to get taken in the draft. These days only 50 odd get taken so it makes sense that points value is only attached to the same amount of picks.

Even if they changed it to 56 this year we'd be able to use the 2 extra 3rd rounders that fall after 40. This is good news. It would make the 2 x 4ths we acquired useless but the rest slightly more valuable so not the doomsday outcome it looked like recently.

- pick 54 (end of third round) the last selection with points value attached

That would make more sense
our next pick would be 58 and that will come in by atleast 8-9 spots and still have value
so we would only really lose 67 & 71 = 98 points

But still shouldnt be allowed to come in this year and be from 2025 onward

47 Hungry Jacks franchises are owned by ex victorian AFL players in WA

Similar to all the Geelong players own farms with Cattle the sell for triple what any other farmer can sell them
They are just the ones we know about. Could be hundreds off the books.

Geelong are shockers, at least we try and hide it.

Not really. Pick 58 is still a 4th round pick.

The change for this year can be a simple one. Take away the F/S / Academy discount. You get priority access to these players. That's the benefit. You don't need to pay even less than what they're worth.

Changes to the draft index and points systems won't happen this year, next year clubs can match any bid on NGA players (Cody Walker, even though he likely chooses blues) and you can trade picks 2 years in advance.

Cody is in the 2026 draft

Looks like we will likely have 1, 7, 20, 21 at this point. No idea what we will get for Baker if he even leaves given the 2 clubs have vastly different things to offer.

Should be able to get 2 quality mids (FOS/Smillie/Lalor & ??) , 1 KPF (Sims or Faull) and a small forward (Kako, Berry or Champion) out of that haul.

Possibility we get Brisbane's pick as well now that they're rising up the ladder. Maybe we look at Dodson the ruck as well or take a punt on Hotton.

How we getting those picks?

How funny looking back at the melts on here after we traded back from our 2023 picks and traded in heaps for 2024

This draft is waaay deeper. They set us up strong for this year
McAuliffe looks good too.

Fawcett I'm not sure he even exists but hopefully he shows something in the next couple of years.

He wont leave.

According to the Hun, the Suns are offering one of the Bulldogs or their first rounders plus pick 20

The Rioli deal

Gold Coast is prepared to give up two first-round selections for Richmond’s Daniel Rioli.

The problem is that one of them is an end-of-first-round selection that might drift into the mid-20s. The Suns have their own first-rounder, the Western Bulldogs’ first-rounder and the Kangaroos’ end-of-first-rounder (from the club’s AFL assistance package). So, the Tigers might be able to add two early picks to a draft hand that is currently 2, 22 and 34. But while Richmond would ask for the best of the Dogs’ or Suns’ draft picks, last year the Roos’ end-of-first-rounder fell as far as pick 29.

Doesn't matter if the bids happen before pick 20 as those players aren't available. Hopefully there will be no first round free agents that dilute pick 20.

In conditions more suited to his game than Metro's wet opener Sims was able to show what he's capable of in that modern forward/ruck role. He was a damaging marking threat all game taking several contested grabs, in particular when he was played deep forward where WA's key defenders struggled to deal with his size and strength. He could have had an even bigger day out if he'd been a little more accurate in front of goal.

If Dan is happy to go, we can't say no to this deal. 28yo only a few years left, he isn't going to be part of our next flag. He has serviced us well. I do worry for Junior though, i think a lot of his improvement this year has come from the help of Dan.

We have to park being sentimental and think of our future. Pick 8 in this draft is a bloody good pick. The late first rounder we could still nab another talented kid. If what I read is true about being able to swap our late rounders id be in the ear of Brisbane right now to land their 1st rounder most likely a pick in the teens.

He wont leave.

Maybe he wants to stay but if the reported deal is true, a good list manager would be gently nudging Rioli out the door.

He's had many good years here. Go play in a better team in your twilight years closer to home. We get a well over the market return to speed up the rebuild.

Win win

I get it man, if the kids we draft become guns, I would never look back but I just hold D Rioli in a different light to other senior players and I aint built for this shit haha
