You don't trade out any of your top 5 players for unproven talent, the Cleveland Brown style in a certain situation is the only instance when this can occur, we are close to the top 4, a few more additions and steady growth and we can get there. #BeBold

Whats with the dumb suggestions to trade out Lids, Rance, Jack etc (for unproven talent)

We cant be trading out good players in between 22-26 ... Our premiership window is open, we could pinch a flag in 2014, its a big if, but its possible.

We start getting rid of our core players for 18 year old kids and all of a sudden we are taking 2 steps back.

Couple of problems with this.

1. it is not unproven talent

2. some players are not between 22-26 and even if they are they are replaced with younger types

3. Loyalty has been countered by FA. The longer a player stays the more likely a player may move through a bad deal for the RFC, poached from another club like Buddy. For example GWS and RFC could turn players over for a year and back again just to protect ourselves from FA. Ridiculous I agree and absurd, but it is within the rules and makes sense at some level for the clubs.

4. Seriously doubt we can pinch a flag in 2014 despite any development, seriously:cool:

The point is within moderation and if sound and balanced it is a trading strategy we should not back away from IMO.

Boyd, Shiels etc... are not unproven talents and probably will only get better. Lids may stay, it depends on which trades suit which players and clubs etc.. and who gets the most out of it if it even occurs

Leon Cameron was on sen earlier on in the week where he mentioned that Dustin Martin had Yellow & Black in his eyes.

when asked what type of players GWS needed he went on to say that they need quality established mature players and when aske what possitions he said
Ruckman , Key Defender, Outside running type

Ruckman - Mumford :thumbsu:
Key Defender - ??
Outside Runner - Grigg
Good call

Haven't heard a lot, but here's what I know:

1. Red hot on Hampson. A Blair pick. Seen more as an around-the-ground marking target than a forward, but with the potential to take a defender when he rests.
2. Foley going nowhere. Highly rated internally, not enough inside mids that are ready to go on the list to replace him.
3. Grimes tradeable, if a give-something-to-get-something deal is available
4. Keen on Adams, but not in pole position.
5. No interest in Dayle Garlett whatsoever.
7. Disappointed in White choosing to leave.
8. Only lukewarm on Chapman. Concerns are that at his age, and with his game style, output could drop off a cliff suddenly. Would not be playing on minimum wage either.
9. I'm told there are 'no surprises' in store. The club has identified its targets in areas where ready-made players are required, but will happily go to the draft to fill gaps.

Can we just open a seperate thread for Mr_Magic and his "trade anyone over 25 for picks, our premiership window opens in 2017 when Lids is 30, fourteen year dynasty" rants.

I'm sick of every thread being derailed into a discussion about whether we should trade Lids or Jack for pick 1. It's not going to happen.

I'm happy with this except point 3. We must retain Grimes.

Some people want to have or list just continually turn over.
Have them until 25 then piss off let's trade them and get the best kids.
Rinse and repeat.
Chasing your ******* tail.

Can someone explain how Hampson would fit in our team except as an overpriced back up or an inbetweener and master of very little that may be ineffective for us ??

How does Hampton fit with Maric, TV, MCBean and others??? trying to understand the general rationale.

What if none work out and Maric drops off?? 4 Duds??? bit risky for me tbh. Id rather see 2014 and see what happens. If V and McBean comes up we can change tactics

I think we should chase James Polkinghorne if he wants to come back to Melbourne, his good mates with Morro as well. What are peoples thoughts?

problem is our best players are the kids, V, Ellis, Martin, Cotch etc...

Who are our superstar trades??

Happy to stick with the draft to be honest and don't mind the Boyd option but not if GWS want too much

youth has served us well:thumbsu:

even Grigg and Houli where grabbed when young:thumbsu:

Sounds very much like the exact same things we were saying about Maric two off seasons ago. I'll back the clubs judgement in

no it doesn't Graham and who, was it Brown?- were proven Duds, big difference! , and we didn't have Maric, McBean and a more developed TV

apples and oranges situation in my view, completely different situation and we are far stronger in the ruck now already, chasing an unproven:cool:

We are stong in the ruck until the worst possible thing (Maric long term injury ) If that happens we are in strife and there arent a whole lot of real gettable options out there

If Lids isnt on the trade table, he should be. I'd give him and our first rounder up for Boyd.

Seriously.

We need Lids more than we do Boyd. The only way we would trade for Boyd is if Jack left to free up salary cap (which is highly unlikely because he just signed a new deal), Otherwise we wouldn't trade for him because McBean is now seen as Jack's Long term replacement as our number 1 forward. Then we have Vickery 23, Griffths 22, Elton 20 developing nicely as second and third talls.

So what??? We are not going to win the lot seriously in 2014 anyway. What about TV and others??

If you lose a few stars you are not supposed to have gun back ups!!

Maric was supposed to be got for his durability!!

What about our cover for Martin/Lids/Cotch, JR?? etc,,,

if we had a problem in the ruck we would have got Mumford or Longer, truth is atm Ruck is not our problem so they are not interested in coming IMO:rolleyes:
