Watson has no lateral movement, thats the major problem. Not sure if he is that quick in a straight line either. There was a 'chase' on Hibberd...he looked like he was jogging whilst watson looked like he was busting a gut.Either tired or having big feet with long strides doesnt look quick.
What I mean with Watto that he won't ever get that gap on his opponent like Lachie does, which means he's going to need to clunk them.

Not sure why this is the perception - Watson is not slow. Fevola wasn't very agile but had a fantastic burst of speed. Watson isn't quite that quick but ain't that far off either. All he needs is better technique and he will get separation on many opponents.

Possibly because he sometimes has ambled about when others were killing themselves for the ball, and because it leaves a lasting impression/misperception.

His mark in the last was plenty lateral for me

Watto, what a difference 22 rounds makes.

If we can keep Waite for 1 more year + add a fit Lachie + Kreuz and get Jaksch, then I think trading Levi might be the best course of action. He's not going to be a dominant forward. He's a GREAT roaming tall. But nowhere near worth what he's asking for. His value is at a peak right now (because IMO he has peaked). Trade him to the highest bidder if the bolded occurs.

Got a few on the lead today.

Casboult just as slow... but he is a contested marking beast.

I'm not trying to take away from Watto's performance, but the first qtr he was matched up on Heppell a few times for example. And throughout the game there were other instances of him not being on a proper defender.

I just don't want us to get carried away over summer.

And he was on Hooker for a large portion of the game as well.

And yes. As much as I like Watto I'd have him as a 3rd tall forward. Always a big believer of three tall KPF. Usually the three rotating positions but always one close to goal, one around the 50 and the final up the ground.

Best case scenario is MS3 trade suggestion actually prevails and we lose Casboult at the gain of Boyd.

Boyd - close to goal
Henderson - around the 50m
Watson - up the ground

When Kruezer regains full fitness I'd have him as Number 1 Ruckman playing 90-95% in the ruck. And Boyd and Watson rucking the 5% between the two.

I'm willing to bet that Melbounre won't get Band 1 compo - I just can't see tehe AFL allowing a pick as high as #3 being given for Frawley.

It spits on the free agency model

Maybe the AFL has it arse up. Rather than compensating the losing team, the gaining team should lose a pick equivalent to the relative value of the player. So Frawley going to Geelong means Geelong have used their 1st round pick (approx 15-18). Frawley going to Dogs would see doggies lose their second round pick, say 23 ish. This gives clubs with an already strong list a (small) disincentive to loading up and stuffing up the order of high draft picks.

Hi hopes there etsal1 we are Carlton supporters we get carried away every off season.

Reckon lucas or garlett alone for pick 30 should be sufficient
West Coast would be pretty reluctant to give their second rounder for a player whose spent 90% of the year in a bottom 5 teams reserves.

I believe both of them will prove to be better than a second rounder at West Coast however I just can't see them improving at Carlton.

Many players who have shown very little at a certain club, have flourished under the watchful eye of a new coach, new playing group, new environment, new facilities, and most importantly a new culture. Jack Watts may be another example of this. The kid obviously has talent and Melbourne recruiters weren't the only ones that saw him as the number 1 pick that year.

I'd back Malthouse to turn his career around if we could get him without compromising our drafting this year.

I think we all have a little reservation when speaking of trading for Melbourne players because of the losing culture that they have had in previous years. That kind of culture can rub off on players and leave long term mental scarring. So for mine, it's a case of if he comes cheaply through trade without impacting too badly on talent we could draft this year and our salary CAP.
We would not do Watts any favours in the mental scarring department. Don't agree he is a good fit and would perform. He's the type of player that performs when left to his own devices, not play under constant pressure. He would fit in with a club like Sydney, Hawthorn or maybe Geelong, where they have a swag of Talent all performing their role, but not Carlton. We have had way too many close games where someone needs to stand up and perform, and unfortunately Jack has shown he doesn't like that type of expectation riding on his shoulders.
