I think you'll find they classify Tomlinson as untouchable as Shiel and Treloar.
I think he is good but not that good. They'll eventually have to part with some good young players if they are wanting to get in some experienced quality. Maybe I just have massive wraps on Shiel and Treloar rating them higher than Tomlinson

A couple of approaches that could be taken
1. Rank out their top dozen mids and target someone ranked around 8-10 on their list (still nets a very good player)
2. profile their midfield (age/style) and target whoever they have excess of
Elite talents:
Shiel, Treloar, Coniglio, Whitfield, Kelly, Ward, Hoskin-Elliot
A Grade talents:
Greene, Smith
B Grade talents:
Palmer, Scully, Sumner, Townsend, Whiley

And of the 3 Townsend appeals most surely. It's not bad for GWS who would be adding another A Grade Talent in by getting Griffen. You are being extremely generous to Whiley calling him B grade and in the same category as those guys. If they are B grade Whiley is no more than D+ surely!

Hi all what about something from left field Cam McCarthy?

Player Bio

Cam McCarthy, from South Fremantle, was drafted at pick 14 by the GIANTS in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft to join a host of tall timber at the club. McCarthy played as key forward as a junior but his excellent marking ability, big vertical leap and defensive pressure mean he is able to play at either end of the ground.
Season Preview
2014 2014
Viewed by some as a potential top-10 pick, McCarthy was considered the second-best tall in last year’s draft class, behind new Giants teammate Tom Boyd. A high-flying key forward who suffered a broken leg in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, the Giants also believe he could be developed into a defender

Going into the last draft I was hoping we'd pick him up. Doubt the Giants would want to trade him after just 1 season on the list

Giants would be wrapped that Griffen blew its cover. All the bravado was just hiding a deep, dark secret.

Jaksch for #7 and we will give you a pick as well. OK, just because it's Carlton here have another player. We don't rate him compared to our A class players but you never know.

Now we know what GWS was up to.

I hope we sent them away with a message. This time we want a top shelf offer or you can get stuffed:mad:

Apparently GWS initially offered #4, #20 plus 2 players to WB for Griffen, but it was rejected.

Could get interesting next week. Need to remind myself to buy some popcorn :)

Scenario made extra interesting by new coach.

Can't help thinking of the finance industry (and political) phenomenon known as big bath theory.

New CEO (or coach) makes the results look as bad as possible in first year or two. After that you get to surprise everyone with how well you turn things around. Of course the turnaround is more impressive because you have established such a low base early on that you can blame on your predecessor.

So, what's my point? New coach might sign off on losing someone like Griff, in order to load up on picks. Front loading the bad news/results and setting scene for future improvement. Dogs will want gws to get our pick 7.

You also would want Griffen gone regardless. Can't have that sort of character around those kids

Agree it's untenable.

But couldn't you also solve the problem by Griff staying and sending the kids (libba, Wallis, bonts, dalhaus, stringer) to us?

I cant keep up with this thread, however just interesting to hear in this audio that we rated Jaksch pick #5 in his 2012 draft. We have been targeting for a long time and have been in his ear for a while. Looks like we are going to get the trade done whatever it takes. He said that Jaksch has committed to us, but I am failing to see how that is otherwise we would have the upper hand and would be offering up our 2nd rounder. At any rate if we do deal pick #7 in the trade we obviously think a guy who should have been pick #5 2 years ago we are happier to get that guy who now has 2 years into him than pick up someone at pick #7 who we feel is more speculative. I suppose we have been watching him and speaking with him over 2 years and like his attitude and how he goes about it and perhaps is a safer bet than going to the draft at pick #7.

Shane Rogers also thinks that the Jaksch deal will be one of the first big deals.

That's about what we gave up for the 24 year old brownlow and norm smith winning. premiership skipper of the WCE. Crazy if true.

So former no 2 pick O'Rourke says "Hawks for me" and Hawks it is, no worries, why hasn't the Jaksch trade played that way if he has said he wants us?

On the Hawks, already killed the pig again.

Took a look at his highlights both Under 18 and for GWS as haven't really seen him play.

My immediate impression is that he plays 'tall' - the Under 18 footage showed he marks the ball with very high hands which makes him hard to spoil (similar to Joe Daniher and Kruezer). GWS footage didn't show too much other than he spoils well with good timing.

Not sure what people think of his build - is he a guy that will put on more muscle and be able to take on the 'Gorillas' as Denis called them ??
