GWS are not going to sell the farm for a late 20s Griffen. No point giving away Boyd or Tomlinson or other young guns for 4-5 years of Griffen.

Let's not oversell #7.

Exactly. Carlton and Jacobs, Carlton and Grigg.

The only time we have been cynical with players wanting to leave is back in our spoon days when Thornton and Russell wanted out and we used the PSD as a threat to pick them up again. We were desperate and unprofessional.
2006 was a garbage year for us in terms of trading and drafting. 1 ND pick and 1 rookie pick are all that we got out of that year.

We took 4 ruckmen that year. 2 washed up players (Ackland and Cloke) from other clubs along with Hampson and Jacobs. And we took Austin to make sure that Gibbs didnt end up suffering from homesickness in his first couple of years at the club.

The last couple of years with Rogers in charge have been excellent for us with a minimum number of failures (Temay being the only one from the senior list who hasnt come on as expected) as opposed to the massive number of failures that plagued us during the Hughes era.

I reckon that if we had negotiated with the Dawks and Adelaide over Thornton and Russell in 2006, we could have had a couple of extra second round picks in that year and our entire side could have looked different (read us taking Tippett and Schofield in 2006 instead of wasting time with Ackland and Cloke).

Unless Boyd has said he wants to come home, can't see GWS letting him go in any trade variation just to get Griffen.

A supposed 10 year forward monster that you build a forward line around.... let go with another KPP player for 7 and 28, only to offload 7 to get a 3-4 year player in Griffen who won't see GWS win a premiership?

CFC fans dreaming.

(Hope i'm wrong and we land him but I won't hold my breath)

If there was any chance of him leaving GWS as part of this Griffen trade then we would be going all in to get him to our club, instead of pick 4 and whatever else we may get.

Zero chance of him leaving GWS IMO.

I go to almost every giants neafl game. Whiley is seriously average IMO.

Ok, thanks for that.

Only team he ever leaves GWS for is us.

Never said it would. I think the thought was if Jones can help you give up P7 and you already want him why not include him?
Ok this is why.

Jones we will pick up at worst 3rd rounder. I'm thinking even less if we use the 3rd rounder to trade. Could even come to ua for free

Tutt we will pick up for free.

So it's

Pick 7 for Pick 19, Jaksch, Jones and Tutt

Vs

Pick 7 for Pick 19, Jaksch, Whiley, Jones and Tutt

You let me know what would you do?

Based on what?

We would have a better chance than Carlton would this trade period, by a long way.

In what way does Griffen (captain) leaving & having no coach persuade a player to WANT to come to a club?

The Dogs may have picks or whatever to get him - but you're missing the most important part - Boyd has no desire to go to the dogs.

Neither did Lonergan!

Good luck with that. Personally I would love for any club to pry someone out of there, be it Boyd, Cameron, etc.

Yeah, the thing about a lot of the high profile GWS recruits you don't know I their family background.

Boyd, (in particular), Treloar, Sheil are all from fanatical Carlton families. If they leave, and let's face it they probably never will, they would more likely choose us than you.

A little thing called $. We have salary cap to burn and I daresay we will be splashing it if not this trade period then most certainly the next.

If you think a player would only want to go to the club they supported as a kid then you are dreaming. If that were the case then we would have Jake Carlisle, Trent Mckenzie, etc.

$$s couldn't even sway Jaksch, I doubt they'll sway contracted players.
