In comparison to just the other two options of Lycett and Dixon/Finlayson. (Not just V the opposition) He touched up Stefan from WB (37 ho) and battled gallantly against Geelong (35 ho) at the catery before being dropped after his last game V Essendon where he only had one kick (21 ho), the poor fella!

In Gawns’ early days he struggled to run out a full game and was dropped regularly too, so I hold some hope for the Hayes to still realise his full potential. His wing span must be significantly wider than Lycetts because he manages to elevate and meet the ball at a higher point at throw ins etc... with his height only being marginally taller at 205 V 203cm.
Wouldn’t taps to advantage be a better stat to effectively compare ruck output?I mean Finlayson has the best centre clearances of the lot for ‘22..but rarely gets his hands to it first.. esp around the ground

Sydney Stack likely up for grabs. Probably wouldn’t cost much. Burgoyne may be able to keep him on the straight and narrow

Carrying too many players with off field issues is a massive risk. We are already punting on rioli.

Don’t shoot the messenger, but I’ve heard from a source connected to the club that Zak Butters met with Adam Simpson this week.

Is adam Simpson been in Bali then Europe the past week too? 🤣
Yeah last I saw was a couple days back and he was in London with his girlfriend or whatever they are now that she's been signed up by Crystal Palace.

Long way for Simpson to go for a dead end.

Brisbane being in finals as the argument makes no sense to me when we just had two players nominate Geelong.

Still think he's Brisbane bound tho.

This is how I grade Dunkley's value:

PickPlayer
1Jacob Weitering - better than Dunkley
2Josh Schache - Bust
3Callum Mills - better than Dunkley
4Clayton Oliver - better than Dunkley
5Darcy Parish - 50/50
6Aaron Francis - bust
7Jacob Hopper - slightly weaker than Dunkley
8Callum Ah Chee - weaker than Dunkley
9Sam Weideman - Bust
10Harry McKay - Better than Dunkley (KPP get a higher rating than midfielders)
11Wayne Milera - worse than Dunkley
12Charlie Curnow - Better than Dunkley
13Matthew Kennedy - slightly worse than Dunkley
14Eric Hipwood - Better than Dunkley (KPP)
15Daniel Rioli - 50/50
16Harrison Himmelberg - 50/50 (KPP)
17Tom Doedee - 50/50 (KPP)
18Jade Gresham 50/50
19Ryan Burton 50/50
20Brayden Fiorini - worse than Dunkley
21Ben McKay - Better than Dunkley (KPP)
22Kieran Lovell - Bust
23David Cuningham - Bust
24Ben Keays - 50/50
25Josh Dunkley
Of everyone after Dunkley I'd only say that only Jordan Dawson has outperformed Dunkley.

So at best Dunkley is the 9th best player in his draft year, but if you took the 50/50s he could be as high as 16th. Lets average that out and say he's the 12th best player in his draft year.

Dunkley has been in the system 7 years. A good Midfielder generally will establish themselves as a first 18 player by season 3. Dunkley impacted in year 1, but had a poor season 2 game wise with only 7 games (possibly through injury?), but was definately a regular by season 3.

So from the age of 21 to 25 the Dogs got solid value from him. The bloke will be 26 in January. So lets say he has 6 seasons left in him. Whilst he is known quality as opposed to an untried draft pick, an untried draft pick can potentially give you 12 seasons of value, a 26 year old can not. This has to be taken into context.

Dunkley is a good player, but he ain't no world beater. He's featured in the Dogs top 10 bnfs only twice (he will again this year) He's had a pretty good season. He was judged BOG by the coaches twice (once in round 23 for some recency bias). He is not by any stretch an established A grader. He is not top echelon.

So if we rate him the 12th best player from his draft year, a known quality, a B+ type, top 25 quartile in league but no where near top 10%, given he only has 100 - 150 games left in him at best, what is the discount for that?

End of first round/start of second round is about his value.

Cleary knows no more than any one else at the moment he is basing it on the fact Brisbane are still in finals.
I’m with you, he said it on 7news Melbourne didn’t give any reasoning to why Brisbane are favourites. I know people have mixed opinions on rucci but what he said yesterday I don’t know why he would lie.

Reports saying Josh Walker has been told to wait until after the trade period to see what his future holds with a contract. Could do worse than picking him up as break glass (replaces Skinner) for a packet of chips or DFA. About to turn 30, a few years younger than I thought he was

True but I think he stays in Victoria. Probably gets similar money and similar opportunities there.

Is very underrated as a key defender. Would be a good pickup for a top team. Don’t think would be a good pickup for us. We would have 5 key backs over 28 on our list. Still makes absolutely no sense why we signed McKenzie so early. Should have told him to wait, to see what our options are.
