Can we get bowes and pick 7 then on trade bowes for someone else...

Is that even allowed in the AFL 🤷‍♀️

We cannot on trade a player, but we can facilitate his move to another club - but the issue here is Bowes salary. Without reading the ruling in detail, I believe the AFL may let us pay his salary at another club.

For example say Bowes chooses Collingwood - they cannot afford his wage due to their cap issues. We get agree to pay Bowes wage for the final 2yrs of his current contract.

Collingwood get a player that doesn’t cost them a cent for 2 years.
Gold Coast lose a player but get cap relief
Port get pick 7 and lose $$$ from their cap for 2yrs
I don’t know what Gold Coast would want in return - that would come from Collingwood.
Or maybe we send Freddy to GC and Collingwood send us a 2nd round pick.

I’m travelling with limited internet so am not getting the hourly bs feeds from SEN or trade radio or whoever is feeding trade rumours - so am out of the loop as to what Bowes value is as a player, but from memory he was reasonable but GC are flush with top end on ball talent.

My pipe dream would be getting a deal of Bowes & Holland from GC and sending Freddy & paying Freddy’s wage for a couple of years.

Why would they do that?? They need cap relief & we can absorb some of their salary issues.

Would it happen - not a snowballs chance..

Are you sure AFL allows that? I thought you couldn't do that.

The other thing is, Jack Bowes is a decent player in his own right. I don't get why Suns just let him walk for a fourth rounder while keeping their pick 7 to a club that's genuinely interested in him. The buying club could just sign him on for longer and spread his salary over a few years? Bowes isn't a bad player by any stretch

That’s it I’m not sure, but the AFL have indicated that they are willing to look at salary dumps in a different way - as others have stated the AFL are wanting to be more americanised in the trading/player movement space.

With regards to Bowes himself, I think he would be an upgrade on some of our playing group - but he would want to come here. The player has the final decision on which team he moves too.. my example above was showing that he “wanted” to go to team X but they could not afford his $ - we could help that happen with a benefit coming back to us - it is just a hypothetical.

If it was a vic club proposing say Nth they could sign off on it.

Of course we need a lockdown KPD, everyone’s magic number is 195, I get it and agree.

I just think there’s a lot of value in a guy that sits at an in-between size that can handle awkwardly sized matchups and have decent disposal, ala OG Jonas.

I have my reservations that the club even knows wtf it plans to do with L. Jones.

Lachie is 186cm, way to short for that in between / 3rd tall defender role.
Jake Pasni (listed as 192) might be the one for that role.

What am I reading we are not going to pay Bowes to play at another club .
And I throw a few hail Marys myself 😂

Doesn't Bowes want to move into the midfield.
If we get him put him in the middle get pick 7 then either use pick 7 and 8 to get 2 good players or
Bundle together and move up the draft board
Seriously can this club give me something to be positive about for 2023

I don't care how much the club values jonas.

He's been a massive structural weakness at our club for half a decade. He's just too slow for smalls and too small for talls.

But for some inconceivable reason we gave the bloke that has no actual spot in our 22 the captaincy.

Tin pot s**t

It’s our biggest on-field problem imo. We play slow with the ball in attack because we need the time to set up behind the ball to cover our slow, short KPDs.

Finding someone to pair with Allir who can cover the ground would allow a bit more courageous (and effective) ball movement.

Wilkie is a gun and would be great alongside Aliir and another genuine tall defender.

The saints would want a lot at the trade table.
Not in the player, in the Jonas replacement…

I know he is skipper and all, but we upgrade his position and we probably win one of those Prelims.

Yeah I mean NBA calls is "Cash consideration" I think? I'd like something similar in AFL too.
