Unless it's for a walk up start first 18 player who will immediately improve the team (eg Pickett), pick 8 should be absolutely untouchable, and as for any suggestion of a direct swap of the Amon compo, which should be a middish 2nd rounder at worst for Rioli. o_O

One player should have 150 plus AFL games left in him, and I very much doubt the other will play another 50.

Im happy to let our team develop naturally. A lot of youth that will improve now. Just focus on another defender and pick 8 best explosive midfielder available.

Dixon retiring doesn’t bother me with with Todd, Mitch and Jeremy. For now Dixon should be studying Hawkins.

Our midfield of wines, Butters, Duursma, Rozee, Bergman, (hopefully) Sinn and Jones will be powerful.

I still feel with need to invest a lot more into tactics, planning and player development.

Pick 8 is pretty much exactly where I want our pick to be. There are about 8 or 9 standout players in this draft. Upgrade that pick and you're probably picking a player of a similar standard as what will be available at pick 8 anyway. Downgrade it even 3-4 picks and barring anybody above us springing a surprise you're suddenly looking at a significantly less promising prospect.

I really struggle to see any scenario where we upgrade or downgrade pick 8 at the trade table and end up in a better position than if we'd just kept it. But knowing our list management people I wouldn't be at all surprised if we did trade pick 8 out just to be seen to be doing something.

We might try to move as many picks as possible into 2023 and capitalise in a 'strong draft'. I personally think that the top 10-15 or so in this draft are pretty decent but the club would have a good handle on the relative strength of the drafts.

Unless we end up with two first rounder pick 8 absolutely should not be on the table.
Even then, I wouldn't trade pick 8 for two late first rounders in this draft.

We've had our too clever by halves drafts in recent years.
Let's just get a #8 draft pick this year and bring them into the fold.

Would much rather Jeka from Hawthorn over Highmore or Francis. If we are picking one up off the scrap heap. 198cm 96kg 21yo not uncontracted for next year. Started his career has a key forward but done pretty reasonable has a key back in the few games he got. Hawthorn play super attacking and like to have a lot of zone off agile marking defenders. So he was behind Sicily, Frost, Scrimshaw, Day, Hartigan.

A first round pick for Ollie Henry? Tell me again how the Vic club players aren't pumped up by the Vic media. Two first rounders for Amon then.

i fail to see how Grundy is worth a first round consider his contract status, current injuries and performance coupled with age!

Yea but don't forget that Geelong first rounder is 18, which becomes at least 20 after the father sons from Brisbane. Unsure if there is any academy and other father sons to blow it out even more.

PORT ADELAIDE

Players that could leave

Karl Amon
is gone via unrestricted free agency. Trent Dumont’s future is less certain. There’s a fair bit of interest in Miles Bergman, who could be on the move and has interest from Victoria, while West Coast reportedly holds interest in Mitch Georgiades.

Players that could arrive

Josh Dunkley
loomed as a big option but has nominated Brisbane as his preferred destination. Continues to fascinate, with a move to South Australia far from ruled out. Tom Highmore is a South Australian and is out of contract struggling to cement a spot in the Saints’ senior side. Port Adelaide was interested in Brodie Grundy but he is keen on staying in Victoria. Junior Rioli has told West Coast he wants to be traded to the Power - would the compensation for Amon, likely a second-round or end-of-first-round pick at best, do it? Jack Graham has been linked to a move back to SA.

Who’s already gone

Steven Motlop (retired), Robbie Gray (retired), Sam Skinner (delisted), Sam Mayes (delisted), Taj Schofield (delisted), Karl Amon (free agency)

same old rumours nothing exciting

Get excited Ports fans !

This is the media that if Houston was available would be saying he’s a second rounder , or maybe one guy tries to say hold up, controversial thought here but Late 1st for him.

Also lol at how hard the wa homers are setting the Rioli is worth the Amon pick but none of them barely touch on his suspension and history meanwhile here in Sa we get card carrying journos reporting false stories (Spp rape that never happened, Ryder hitting a cop that never happened, Trengove king hitting a dude, that never happened)

Funny story but even though those stories ended up all being corrected if you make the mistake of roaming these boards the general belief is that these things all actually happened as they never caught the retractions (well lack of them when the true stories came out)

It comes as Triple M journalist Jay Clark revealed Port Adelaide could play a key role in unlocking a trade for Jackson.

"Melbourne want a pick inside the top ten from Fremantle and maybe another first-round pick," Clark said on Dead Set Legends.

"Port Adelaide has Pick 8 so I just wonder whether there's a swap between Fremantle and Port Adelaide to help satisfy Melbourne on that Jackson trade deal.

“It could be a shuffling back of Port Adelaide’s first pick potentially.”

Cox and 32 for 8. There you go, there's my ill-thought out prediction.

Is Jerker Jenkins the new Adam Cooney of Trades Radios, or will we now have two people putting up ridiculous 'megatrades'?
