Chris Davies confirmed that we are holding onto Bonner and Hayes and that the club is very glad to do so and that they have belief in them as players. Also said that no-one wanted to leave the club. I don't mean to poke the bear but it seems that Kenny is actually liked by the players and that they aren't clammering to get out afterall. I will now retreat to the bunker while fire and fury rain down on me.

It is interesting that only Amon left on Free Agency. It does talk to a positive culture. Hopefully that culture then puts friendly pressure on the starting 23.

I don't think the #sackhinkley rhetoric has been about whether the players like him or not. Will all those players staying less to a premiership? Hopefully yes, because that's the only thing that matters.

Band 2 is guaranteed to be worse than Richmond's future first. And they also wouldn't have this years 31.

Pick 19 v teens pick and 31. It’s not a lot of risk for gws, especially if the flip side is they got band 1 and a top 10 pick.

In the end gws probably more pragmatic than most teams and let hopper get where he wanted.

Easily could have held him and played the free agency lotto game. Tho of course the same media blasting port for going after a contracted jhf and demanding we give up butters and 46 virgins would have went hell for leather on mean gws for not letting a player get to where he wants if they didn’t let him go.

The Ollie Henry thing is weird.

Geelong don't really have an interest in him, it's more the player begging to join the club.

The reason being homesickness, except home for him is 1 hour max away. And the fact that most Geelong players don't actually live there anyway
Where is the media pile on like JHF copped 😞

Really all we can do is try and improve and we have improved our list . It would be great to get a big fish one day but having JHF , Rioli and Ratagolea want to come here warms my cockles and I reckon we’ll at least play finals next year

In that case I think our chances of getting Esava Ratugolea have lengthened considerably. Esava is contracted, Geelong are digging in, and unless they are prepared to take the #33 and we are prepared to trade it Esava may have to wait 12 months. We really needed to do a deal for a couple of fringe players to give us some extra currency.

Your comment about Ken Hinkley being liked by the players is not so controversial. Ken's ability to get on with players has never been in question. It is Ken's god awful game plan, his selection policies and more generally his failure to deliver success that irks most of us. The really frustrating thing for many of us is despite the lack of success the players seem to think the sun shines from Ken's arse.

Postscript: I have since read media reports that we are linked to the Ollie Henry deal and that Geelong may take our #33 for Ratugolea and package it with the #25 pick to secure Henry from Collingwood.

Most people who drive an hour to work don't enjoy it and would look to change it if they could.

Holding onto Bonner and Hayes is another tick for the trade period....

We are stocked with HBFs though. There are a few genuine spots where there is genuine pressure on the best 22...

Desperately need young key position backs. Hopefully we snare Rata

It probably actually says something about the wider AFLs views of both players. Normally young ruckman bounce around like pinballs come trade time, but there hasnt really been any obvious interest in Hayes to speak of.

I like both players in Hayes and Bonner but the only reason they haven't left is because no one wants them. Which I think is a good outcome for the club as we would get literally nothing for both of them.

That's the most important thing though. Pretty much what that famous saying is too, right? Something like "Nice guys always finish first"....

I know there's a lot of anti-Hinkley mucking around, but I think the majority of us think he's probably a good bloke, he's trying his hardest and generally doing an 'ok/good' job. Problem is, he isn't doing a 'great' job. Footy isn't about playing ok, winning some games and making finals. It's about being the best, beating everyone and winning flags. Ken has failed to show an ability to inspire a team to achieve the latter. He's also preaching a stale message and half of a coaches magic is that new inspiration and the shake up a coach brings a team. Lastly he has been given the longest period in the history of AFL football to achieve success and has failed. There is a time for everyone to move on and his is now. I will continue to blame the board for extending him, not him for accepting it.

None of that has anything to do with who he is.

He MUST be gone this year and I wish him well in whatever he does in 2024 and beyond. The only reason I would accept him remaining in 2024 is that he has taken us to a flag in 2023. If he does that, he can stay coach for as long as he likes.
