Ryan Burton didn’t want to be traded either and he was fairly well established in Malbun. We’d be crazy not to go after him, particularly if it’s for a salary dump so they couldn’t ask a crazy price for him.
Ryan Burton had 3 years in Malbun and was completely blindsideed by the trade after signing a new deal. His natural reaction was WTF?

Grundy is 28 year old Hipster Doofus who likes to do graffitti, wear man buns and partake in other inner Malbun doochery. Completely different scanario.

If we can bring a certified Malbun barista, and artisan foccacia baker to the Precinct, we might convince him.

It's absolutely a salary dump.

OK we obviously aren't remotely close to the cap. Dante is our current hope in the ruck and he's only going to start getting a bit of game time next year.

Let's not pretend Charlie is a Ruck.
I think Teakle could be closer to a Justin Westoff part timer in the ruck.

Cal Twomeys comments on his top 50 preseason

"If his training form over summer is any indication, Grundy might have a season that makes this ranking look way too low. He finished sixth in the Pies' best and fairest but didn't reach the heights of his 2018-19 All-Australian form. He has trimmed down, is covering the ground better and gives the Pies a midfield presence."

Wouldn't say no to helping Collingwood out at the right price.

We’re 12th on the ladder. Keep building around Rozee and don’t recruit 28yr olds.

We’ve got a 1-2 year window to bring through Hayes/Teakle/Visentini/other while Dixon is playing as a 2nd ruck.
Plenty of second rucks around to recruit from other clubs also. Witts prime example. Hickey, Ryder, Vardy and the list goes on.

It would have to be a treloar like deal for Port to see it as a win surely
He just doesn't fit age profile

You'd only consider Grundy if a) you were getting rid of a similarly aged Lycett (who Grundy would be a massive upgrade on) and b) Collingwood was paying some of his stupidly ridiculous $1m a year average wage (or it's no longer an average of $1m a year. Hopefully that s**t was front ended.

If those two situations played out, then I'd be all over Grundy like white on rice. Imagine Grundy tapping the ball to the likes of Wines, Rozee, Butters etc and then swapping out with Finlayson/Dixon in the forward line. If we have Grundy instead of Lycett in the prelim final, Stefan Martin doesn't come in and dominate for the Dogs midfield to take advantage of.

I said before that Teakle is closer to Total Football than Lycett is (who is closer to Total Football than Hayes). Well, Grundy at full flight is about as close to Total Football for a ruck as you can get. Over his career, he's averaged 32 hitouts, 17 disposals, 4 tackles, 4 clearances, 2 inside 50s and 1 rebound 50 per game.

By comparison, if you extrapolated Teakle's 33% TOG across a full match (I know, I know), he would have averaged 27 hitouts, 15 disposals, 6 tackles, 3 clearances and 3 rebound 50s.

I don't know if you ever had it, but if you did, you have certainly lost the plot.

If we keep Ken and got Grundy, history indicates we'd keep playing Lycett anyway and use Grundy as a B grade key forward and relief ruck, so maybe it's not a good idea.

Remember when we had elite future AA and B&F winning ruckman Paddy Ryder play second fiddle to Matthew ****ing Lobbe for an entire season of football? Lol.

I like the thought of Grundy.... But that's about it.

Don't think we should be recruiting 28+ year Olds... His wages and or draft picks could be used somewhere better.

Scott Lycett: 26 hit outs
Peter Ladhams: 18 hit outs
Stefan Martin: 13 hit outs
Tim English: 11 hitouts

Stefan Martin dominated?

We recruited Ryder as a forward/ruck. And as the year progressed he quickly surplanted Lobbe as the number 1 ruck.

I hope JHF stays at North Melbourne. It pisses me off when these young high draft picks think they can move on a whim. I like that Gold Coast are finally holding their talent, future looks bright for them.

Not sure you can begrudge anyone wanting to leave a basket case to return home. I agree it's unfortunate how it has played out in public.

Like Wanganeen, Polec and Ebert for instance :p

Just kidding. I know they were all different.

I find it funny People don’t want Grundy coz he’s to old at 28 or 29 if he came to us.
Geelongs best players Cameron 29, Hawkins 33, Dangerfield 32, Guthrie 29, Duncan 31, Stewart 29
Melbourne Gawn 30, may 30
Richmond Martin 31, Riewoldt 33, lynch 29, grimes 30

There’s definitely room for Grundy if pies pay some of the salary
And would improve our team a lot

Grundy is overrated. Had a couple of fantastic seasons that earned him that ridiculous contract but overall hasn't been worth the coin, which Collingwood has worked out.

High picks go to struggling clubs, it's how the draft system works. I'd rather these kids suck it up, stick fat with their club and see if the wheel turns. I love that someone like Buckley never won a flag coz he thought playing for Brisbane was below him.

My Boak, Hinkley, DBJ, Pick 7 Package deal looks even more of a goer now.
Please stop.
Collingwood and GWS both have massive salary cap issues apparently.

Would be trying to get a really decent mid out of either, for a bargain price, rather than Grundy - just to help them out financially of course.
We really should be up to our eyeballs in Taranto or Hopper. I've said since the start of the year that Hopper would be a great fit for us, should only cost Amon compo pick too.
