Just say Adelaide do become interested, how about a 3-way deal where:
Bower > Adelaide
Maric > Richmond
........> Carlton

I've hit a stumbling block finding something that Richmond could offer in the exchange. Their #14 pick is too steep, #37 not enough IMO.

i think 37 is plenty but i would be taking gourdis off their hands (naturally). a 193cm, 91kg steak knife who can play key tall rather than bower's 3rd man.

Swann indicated on Fox Sports News that we would probably prefer picks for those fellas, but that if no trade was done then they are happy to remain at the club.

That sounds fair enough to me.
It would be remiss for us just to pick up a number that we wouldn't be able to use effectively, or worse a list clogger.
Wouldn't complain to get that #22 somewhere around #10 though.

New Deal Starts November 1. If they were over yesterday or today, they are still over to October 31 until they drop some payments!

Dont think that the Aints is over the cap any more. But they might be in a little bit of trouble for this year.

Which part of the second part of that line didnt you seem to understand? Next year, they arent going to have an issue, but to get themselves under the cap for this year, they will just have to get rid of a lesser quality player.

I agree, the way it looks is that they have already infringed with a punishable offence looming.

I imagine the AFL has given them the opportunity not to be trapped for next year but if they were naughty throughout this year then they could be in trouble.

I don't think the full story is out

Mind listing your third talls?

The names are escaping me at the moment.
Mitch Brown, Schofield, Ash Smith (plays both tall and small), Jordan Jones, Jarred Brennan and Blayne Wilson.

Bower would never get a game before Brown, Schofield or Smith if all three are fit.

JJ, Brennan and B. Wilson had excellent seasons in the WAFL and are rated by the club highly. Adding another similar kind of defender to the list would simply stunt their development by taking potential matches.

I repeat Bower offers us nothing and he would be unlikely to get a game.

Never realised you had that many running around in the 2's.

I like those calls man. Just from watching Watson's limited gametime in the AFL and the VFL highlights etc, there's no doubting he is a seriously talented kicker in the Suckling vein, I just hope he comes back into form again. I also like the idea of Ellard not having to play the inside midfielder role, he seems to be a very creative inside the forward line and from his experience in the midfield would make an excellent defensive/tagging forward in my opinion, as he has the ability to neutralise opponents, win his own ball and also kick accurately at goal.

If Lucas comes on in 2012, I think Scotland should definitely start grooming him for that position. As you rightly said, he could take that position as he has that calm and controlled manner of possessing the ball and can definitely make for a possible replacement. I also think people are underestimating the potential growth Chris Yarran will have next season.

So basically I'm not so sure why people are obsessed with linking us to Goddard and so forth. Carlton has confidence in its recruits from 2010 and the spine they are setting up, and they are the people who are with the guys all the time. If they trust them, we should too...

2 Words - 'Premiership Window'.

Yes we have sured up our spine for the next few years but there is no Guarantee that these guys will be all be playing Top level football next year. Most of our team are now beginning to 'Gel' and work out how to link up together. One or two great players could mean a 17th premiership next year (just look at the impact Curnow, Duigan & Laidler had in their first year) and although we have done well with our recruiting, there is no Guarantee the new Spine will be ready next year. I believe 2012 should be a premiership year for CFC.

Cheers.

Yeah we have a heap, almost overstocked as there just is not enough places in the 22. 3 are also promising recent draftees, with Brennan being listed as an emergency a few times this year despite supposedly being a more "project player".

Wilson was AAu18 and only slipped to our pick due to injury worries. Has been excellent in his first year on the list.

It was no slight on Bower who is a good player when fit, we just have a lot of HBF/3rd tall type players, most of which are young and recent draftees.

OK, there's a little bit of over-hype going on here. Might be time to call you out. First up Smith, Jones, Brennan, and all 185 to 188cm, and hardly stars. We're talking KP defenders here - 192cm and above types. They're wannabe medium defenders playing WAFL, and so irrelevant to the discussion. Brown. Even when not injured, he's hardly a world beater. Poor agility is his achilles. Glassy. Twightlight of his career. 192cm. Had a great season though. Schofield. Has been very good this year, although was soundly beaten in the last 2 finals. Your most promising defender IMO. So when you look at the facts, you actually don't have many decent 192cm and above defenders on your list do you. Bower would easily slot into your best 22 as he would many other clubs. I hope he stays with the Blues, but there'll be no shortage of enquiries.

:)

Brennan was lucky to get first grade knocks if I remember correctly. Hardly a good year, heard they wern't to pleased with his progress. And he isn't a 3rd defender, at all.

I'm sort of in 2 minds over this Bower thing. I rate the guy highly, but I really don't like players wanting to move to a weaker club so that they can get an easy game. It's like they're running away from a challenge... taking the soft, easy option. That's not the Carlton way. If you can't make the best Carlton side, then why not work harder and improve and take your game to the next level. We're well on our way to clocking up some more flags now, and the standards are just going to get higher. Perhaps some players don't have the ability/confidence to keep up with the others? Who knows.

We don't really know how it all went.
May be the CFC told him that he won't be getting any more games due to injuries and they're trying to get him somewhere where they may give him more time to get right.

One thing I do know though is that Bower and Grigg don't belong in the same breath.

From you Parrot, that is a compliment.

The fact you think Smith is a wannabe medium defender playing WAFL is hilarious.

Played nearly the entire season till injury, was our best medium defender after Hurn. Plays both tall and small though, as he did when McKenzie and Brown were out of the squad.

Schofield was carrying an injury, but was not soundly beaten. Played a rebounding role.

Our best young tall is McKenzie, who belted Cloke in the first final and has been very good this year.

Bluesman, you are flat lying or grossly misinformed. The club and fans have been very pleased with Brennan. Was often in East Freos best, despite it being his first year on an AFL list and was listed in our emergencies a few times.

Facts are Bower is not needed, is injury prone and would not get a game ahead of Glass, McKenzie and Schofield. As for our youth, it would be strongly disadvantageous for their development.

Neither Freo nor WC will compete for his services, you are trolling if you think so.

The AFL just increased the cap and TPP by 7%.

Dont think that the Aints is over the cap any more. But they might be in a little bit of trouble for this year.

The increase takes effect on November 1st.

Have their delistings or Gardner's retirement brought them under?? With Pelchin saying today that they do have issues I would assume the answer is no.

I read "Don't think that the Aints is over the cap anymore" as today. Not next year. Today. Yes you said they will be in trouble but you are insinuating that they have fixed the problem by using the word "anymore". If you said next year instead of anymore it would have been clearer.

Maybe I read it wrong.

Can't help but feel the same way I do about Bower the way I did with Walker.

Was very disappointed with all the talk about Walks wanting out last year. Bower could be our version of Harry O imo. I hope like hell he stays!

The best that Bower has produced is FAR beyond what any of those players have shown.

However, unfortunately for Carlton he hasn't shown his best for a while and unfortunately for him, others have come in and been very very good in his position. He'd definately be of some value to West Coast and would get a game.

Yes, Freo and WC will be competing for Bower. Walk up start to any of those teams. Just needs to get his body right. Someone Carlton can afford to have on the table.

Yes, WC was smarter than 90% of your supporters. They will be smarter again.
Based on what Cake?

Bower is massively injury prone.

We were forced to deal with Carlton, Kennedy was the best we could get and filled a specific need.

ATM we are not losing a star player, so we are not forced to take what we can get. Bower also does not fill a need, in fact would be excess to requirements if he can stay injury free.

If Bower is set on going back to WA (according to Swann this is not the case) and Fremantle will not deal, then I expect he would go to Freo in the PSD.
