(edit) Article on Russell - also mentions Bower is gone

Kerr, Heyne, Bray and Lodge were pretty obvious ones.
Good luck to Thornton and Russell for the future.
If Thornton and Russell leave via free agency we will have 3 senior spots on our list. You would expect a few more to go as well, especially if we want to upgrade some of the rookies (Casboult, Bell...)

We will no doubt use at least 3 picks in the draft and will elevate Casboult, Tuohy, possibly Curnow and possibly Bell since we will have no designated rookies next year.

That gives us 41 senior listed players plus anybody we nab through trades or free agency. I'd say we have to delist 3 more players from the senior list or take the punt of leaving Curnow and Bell on the rookie list for their 3rd and 2nd year respectively.

What would everyone's opinion be if Cloke comes to the club but in order to do so, Waite is traded. Hypothetically speaking.
I think that the terms 'pitchforks, burning torches, scythes and sickles' spring to mind along with nooses and lynch parties

Nice post ODN :thumbsu:
Hope you can keep it updated over the next 6 weeks or so.

Edit: Why are people suggesting we trade Warnock? Didn't we sign him to a 3 year deal? If we were stupid enough to trade him wouldn't when probably have to pay most of his salary?

Makes no sense what so ever.

What if we signed him for $49k a year? ;)

Not trying to be pedantic ODN, are Thornton, Bower and Russell announced as delists?
Well Russell is definitely going free agent, Thornton is looking for a free agent gig and an article on the Carlton site by one of the AFL writers says that it is believed Bower has also parted ways. I'm going to play the odds and assume the club wouldn't let us click on to our own club site and read something that isn't true.

No doubt all 3 are gone, but it means we have next to no chance of any sort of trade, and they will sit tight til the PSD........I think.

If we delist Russell do we forfeit a compensation?

Not sure Bower has any currency.

If we delist Russell do we forfeit a compensation?[/quote]Well we won't delist them right away but Russell and Thornton are gone. If they don't find another club, then we will probably delist them anyway. If they do find a club, they can automatically go there and we will be compensated whatever the AFL think they are worth. The only spanner in the works would be if the club they choose also loses someone else to free agency. Any players received via free agency affects your compensation for any player you lose via free agency. If a club thinks Russell or Thornton would get to them via the PSD anyway, then they may opt to take that chance and in that case, we get nothing.

Interesting to see what rookies get promoted. I think Casboult/Touhy would have to be promoted under the 3 year rule. I think bell will remain as a rookie (mcinnes already on long term injury list so no issue there). Curnow will probably be promoted.

Delistings could come from Davies/Joseph/McCarthy.

You think McCarthy is a chance to be delisted?

A bit of interest in Patty McCarthy on the Draft/Trading board from Port. Doesn't sound like there are any legitimate sources, but wouldn't suprise me if they had enquired given he's from SA originally. I haven't seen much of him play, but was compared to Waite as a junior. Would love to see him develop in to that athletic swing man we were trying to turn Jared in to back when we were tossing a coin to determine whether he was playing back or forward.

Just a note. List changes this year increase seniors to 40 players removes veteran list and reduces Rookie list to 6 (excluding international and scholarships).

So currently we have to reduce rookie list by 1 (presumably more promotions than that) and fill 6 senior spots (promotion of Tuohy, Casboult, Curnow who are all last year brings that down to 3).

More delisting to come I suspect unless we don't rate the back end of this draft

Curnow, Tuohy and Casboult would be my upgrades, Bell after a year is risky.

That leaves us with 3 live picks before trades, keeping in mind, Ellard, Curnow, Joseph, Davies etc are tradeable.

Personally I think we'll be putting fringe players on the market for trades, and bringing in a host of other fringe players. Mick will want guys who are there for him, and I think he'll be pretty quick to identify guys who he doesn't think will suit his style.

I think guys like Davies, Joseph, Lucas and White will be looked at closely.

Davies plays a role others do, and generally speaking worse than they do. Joseph plays too loose as a defender and a tagger, but still doesn't have an attacking game, a pay-out may be in order. Lucas has the talent, and I'd back Mick to keep him around, but he'll certainly be told he has to harden up (like Daisy was). White is between the obvious KPD (Henderson, Jamison) and the up and comers (McCarthy, McIness, Watson), and I would have him behind Duigan (hardness) and Laidler (composure) at least and without the potential of Bootsma (god do I love that kid).

I think White and Ellard are our best possibilities for upgrading picks.

Presuming Hawthorn take out the whole thing I could see us getting away with:

White + 49 for 40 + 58.

3rd round pick and a 9 pick upgrade into the end of the second round. Hawthorn need KPD depth and White, while nothing special will be better for them then anybody they'd get in the 9 pick gap. As stated above I think White is superflous to us, but a quality depth player.

After that I'd look at Freo

Ellard + 40 + 58 for 33 + 69

Which would leave us with 11, 31, 33 and 69
