Isn't the whole point of his nuclear plan to have an excuse to keep funnelling Government money to coal and gas providers as a stop-gap measure while the nuclear plan is forever in development...
When it comes to energy my view is there's obviously big gap between the advertised stated intentions of the 2 major parties. Not so much when it comes to outcomes when in power (pun intended).

For example:

Fact is I wouldn't trust that Qld Cop who currently leads the Federal Liberal Party for a moment to do what he says on anything. Been leader of the Coalition since 2022 and his nuclear energy policy is ONLY policy he's given any costing details to and he's been caught out badly by everyone who knows what they're talking about and a few who don't. An embarrassing backflip incoming. Heck he's even been disowned by the Qld LNP. Anyone backing this BS nuclear plan is a fool.

But as for the other mob - they talk the talk but can't walk it. The only thing going for Albanese is he ain't Dutton. How piss weak is that? In many ways he's even more dishonest than Dutton and deserves to be punished on election day for being nothing more than a placeholder.

The two biggest policy crises facing Australians this year and into the future are the energy crisis and the housing affordability crisis. And the 2 biggest political organisations in the country are either ignoring them or coming up with fantasy solutions with a snowflake's chance in hell of changing anything in the next 20 years even if they came true. And these bastards are too bloody comfortable in their positions to give a feck and yet getting ass kissed on Big Footy ffs.

Merry Feckin Christmas. Sacks of coal to all of ya incoming.

I feel like the Nuclear question/answer is dominated by environmental Karens a bit.
Which is kinda strange due to the pros/cons of the whole thing. Particularly in Aus.

The main issue with the Coalitions nuclear policy is instead of renewables, rather than alongside it. Besides Nuclear reactors, if Australia does go down that route, we'd be more likely to get into processing / refining that's often done overseas now. Generating more revenue from our Uranium reserves (which should be opened up much more to help the world get to Net Zero).

1. More uranium mining
2. More 'value add' processing here
3. Nuclear reactors here
AND
4. More renewables
AND
5 charge a small fortune to other countries to store their waste (on rolling five year leases, where if not renewed it’s shipped back to the country of origin). We are one of the most geologically stable countries and we get ‘three eyed fish will evolve, grow legs and take us over’ Karen’s, ignoring billions that could fund the transition to net zero 🤪

The social media chatter is certainly being dominated by people who are too lazy to deep digger - Lazy Karens Susans on all sides.

There's thousands of pages of analysis of the 'nuclear question/answer' and its suitability for Australia. Heck Dutton's press release last week directly quoted a thousand pages of detailed independent analysis.

Trouble is the only people who care about detail are the people who understand it and thinks it's kind of important - especially when it comes to significant change in energy policy costing multiple billions over generations with all the consequent risks that come with that.

Nuclear energy might well be the long term answer to Australia's energy and environmental problems. But Dutton is not really concerned with that. He's all about winning the election next year.

And it seems his proposed solution to Australia's energy woes is not anywhere close to being that.

Not that the working poor in marginal electorates he is counting on to win government will read the AFR or any one of the other business papers canning the thought bubble. They're too busy looking for someone to blame for why their power bills are skyrocketing and why rents and houses have become so unaffordable.

And those that aren't, who have their own home and have seen it sky rocket in value over the past decade with subsidised solar panels on their roofs to insulate them from rising power prices are desperate to keep what they have. They're all in favour of ballsy government but not if it affects their bottom line.

Welcome to politics in 2024. Where working on the margins, talking about the far off future with made up ideas about AUKUS subs, micro nuclear energy plants etc. and doing feck all right now on the things that matter is the only policy that will win government in a country with 3 year terms.

and the British

Even 99% of filthy saxons wouldn’t be able to tell you who the captain of Australia is.

It’s a similar demographic to the ‘rugby’ here.

If Dutton can drown out the Nuclear Karen's he'll win the election. Something I thought impossible even 3 months ago. Albanese/Labor are ****ing shockingly terrible. Nobody actually likes Dutton.
I’m hoping a teal will front up in my electorate so I can vote for neither Labor or Liberal. Dutton isn’t a viable alternative and the greens certainly aren’t either.

I’m in the it is too late for nuclear camp. We missed the boat on that, coupled with a carbon tax and significant reduction in the corporate tax rate a while ago. The last thing we need now is bigger government trying to manage the infrastructure spend and running of these things.

Surely, batteries are/will be the way forward in Australia.

Keep hearing " we should have done it 30 years ago" but the appetite for nuclear was way less then. The climate change Bogeyman hadn't really been unleashed and the Cold War Nuclear/Chernobyl stuff was still at the forefront of people's minds. Now all of a sudden its too expensive.

It is too expensive though when compared to other options now available. Nuclear hasn’t moved in 30 years while alternatives have come on leaps and bounds in the last 5 years.

Capitalism would be to remove the ban and let the free market freely not invest in nuclear.

I can't see either party getting a majority

Teals will hold and labor will lose some to liberal
Is it enough to lose parliament altogether? Maybe

Yeah.

The irony of people screaming 'welcome to capitalism' in support of of a political thought bubble that is underpinned by billions of dollars of government/taxpayers subsidy payments.
