AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
Ladder Prediction
Beaumaris - Alot of players from last year still available although seniors likely to steal a few. Have some very talented school kids. Might lose a few games in the first half of the season but when the school kids come in, they should be very hard to stop.
De La Salle - Can't go past them being one of the most successful clubs in U19 premier. Should be up there again but I'm sure they won't go undefeated this season. Still have some good players from last year and school kids play on wednesdays I think so that should help them.
Uni Blues - Just putting them third because of all the hype on this forum. Apparently have recruited well and did well in a praccy match against De La so I am tipping them to slot in at 3rd
Old Xavs - Always in top 4 so I couldn't leave them out, heard they are slightly worse than last year so having them at 4th sounds appropriate. Discipline is going be a big issue for them so they need to keep focused and not get ahead of themselves.
Old Scotch - I'm tipping them to just miss the top 4, relied on their best players too much last year and had many passengers. Their best players aren't gonna be there this year as they'll be playing seniors and this is why they'll miss out on finals.
Uni Blacks - I'm backing them in to improve this year with some good new recruits as well some of last years players to step up and help these notorious cellar dwellers climb up the ladder.
St Bedes - Going to struggle, have some good players but no depth. Their lower end players are alot worse than the lower end players of other teams and this is going to be a big problem for them.
Fitzroy - Don't know much about them but they won the North 1 premiership so if they have some good numbers from last year I am sure they will have a chance to avoid relegation.
Old Melburnians - Not much to say about OM's but I heard they are struggling for numbers and I am tipping them to be easy beats.
Old Brighton - They have literally 2 or so players from last year, will struggle to field a team let alone win a game!
Boomer, you seem to know a fair bit about the current situation down at Beaumaris. Who are the five or so names to watch out for this year, seeings as its a fairly young group. Any of the young boys ready to make an impression? Or any of the 2nd year/3rd year plays going to go and surprise a few people?
ward Is a hack don't be too worried about his return and tom gandy # 17 or 47 is a jet, will be close to best player in the vafa league, look out for this bloke, alex smout in the 2s can't play
The top 4 sides from last year all winners in rd 1. Apparently De La looked pretty impressive for a team tipped to slide this year. Tom Humphrey and Mark Todd both starred in the seniors and unlikely to be back for a while if at all. Seems they have the depth to cover them. Massive win by Xavs and pre-season predictions about them look right on the money. Beauy also impressive against local rival St Bedes. The much hyped Uni Blues went down at home to Scotch and would be disappointed with that result. Look forward to any reports from other teams about their round 1 result.
The biggest thing I noticed from the games bar the Scotch vs Blues was the gap between the two sides who played each other. Are we going to have a competition split in two ? Between the top 6 and bottom 4 ?
The Blues would be disappointed with the loss to Scotch but looking at the quarter by quarter breakdown indicates the game was tight all day. Credit to Scotch for the win.
Winner of the week would have to be Xavs with the belting of OM's.
Loser of the week would be Old Brighton who only scored 2 goals for the day in one of the quarters.
Sloth out
i plaed against beauy 2s last week and two of your boys smashed us and looked stiff as to not be in the 1ns number 1 was impressive and number 8 killed usBeaumaris looked pretty good, good mix of old players and also new players coming up from 17s. The same names from last year pop up with Dickenson and Webber up forward. Some of the new players, Schubert, Blee and Cumming all looked pretty good. If they play well, i think Beaumaris will be up there again and could go a step further. Don't know why you would even mention a seconds player that will never make it into the firsts like Alex Smout.
St Bedes didn't look very good, their big name players from last year just didn't step up when needed. Young bloke Charley Kinsey played very well out of the backline, Matthew Goodman was best on for the bedes (actually looked like he wanted to play yesterday after a couple of quiet years). Bedes have a good bunch of players but will need to gel if they want to make an impact this year.
Anyone care to comment on some of the other games?
This year will definitely be a repeat of last years division in the competition..
rumours are Old Brighton have been asked to step out of the competition and back to the low division.. can anyone confirm? they will have a very long year if they stay up in prem.
Xavs, Beauy, De La and Scotch should make up the top four again, from what ive heard De La have lost a lot of players cant see them dominating like last year, Xavs and beauy look like the teams to beat both with new young players that should take to this comp well if not stolen by seniors.
We will see who takes the uper hand after this weeks game..
Calling it early but in 18 weeks time:
1. Xavs
2. Beauy
3. De La
4. Scotch/ Uni Blues
Not good for anyone to see a side getting smashed every week but perhaps it should have been addressed in the pre-season. Can’t see the VAFA allowing it to happen now. Interesting comments above about ‘stealing players for seniors’. I thought the whole idea of under age football was to develop players for senior football. If they are good enough then they should play seniors. De La had 4 eligible players last year that did not play a single game in the 19s. Did not stop them winning the flag as they just worried about who was playing for them, not who wasn’t. Seems all the current hype is about Xavs and Beauy. Dont write off DLS. While impossible to be as strong as 2010 they will be right amongst again.
Hi Rooster,
Thankyou for the De La update, obviously you must play for the club. Just a question mate, is Waverley Oval still the sh*t heap with countless potholes?
Must have been a while since you played their Saha. Potholes disappeared a while back and it was re-surfaced at the end of 2009. Is significantly better than what it was but sadly the council did not see the need to upgrade the drainage or level the ground (the club has been asking for this to be done for years). With so much traffic it does tend to chop up in the depths of winter but overall not a bad track. Still has the slight north/south slope.
I actually had a year off and went travelling last year - enjoyed the European summer and the ladies over there. Spent so much on condoms. Just an amazing time.
Anyway back to footy, how is De La placed this year? Premiership chance? Any other teams you think will be a threat?
Tips:
St Bedes/Mentone vs Old Melburnians OM's will get better over the season considering they have only had a coach for a month but SBM with the home ground should win by 30
Old Scotch vs Old Brighton You can write your own ticket with Brighton Scotch by the length of the Flemington straight!
Uni Blacks vs De La Salle De La to be too strong and to win by 50
Fitzroy vs Uni Blues Im tipping an upset with this game with Fitzroy hanging on to win by less then a kick!
Old Xaverians vs Beaumaris Easily the game of the round with what is being said on good old BigFooty the small ground to really suit OX and im tipping a close one for 3 Qtrs and on Xavs last Qtr last week im tipping them to pull away and win by 2-4 goals

Most results went to script to my thoughts. Except I expected the Xavs v Beauy game to be a lot closer. Saying that Xavs do play Stradbroke Park very well.
De La look to be more potent up forward than previous campaigns with their little forwards kicking plenty of goals.
Any other comments ?
Massive defeats again throughout the enitre league. Looks to be definetely two groups of teams, with Blacks, Fitzroy, Om's and OB not quite up to it.
Biggest game after the easter break will definitely be Xavs vs Blues.
Uni blues will get smashed by xavs at least 10 goals. the scores of fitzroy and uni blues are very decisive. Fitzroy should have been up at half time and if not for the third quarter should have been a lot closer game. De la when playing fitzroy didn't look ti get put of 2nd gear
