HUGE potential signing for xavs with former EDFL/TAC Cup powerhouse from gippsland Dane ''Stickman'' Roy in talks about a possible specialty ruck and big man coach! would be great for the team, also very handy waving the sticks behind the goals as a former grandfinal goal umpire, very cool under pressure and excellent decision making on the big stage, a real asset if they can secure him!

what happened to uni blues?

i woke up early saturday morning. Had a cuppa on the back porch and read the paper. Thought what a great day for footy. Have a look at the scores now only 2 team managed to kick more goals then points! seems the yips in the afl are showing in the VAFA.

Few questions as we near the middle of the year. Who is ganna stop Brendan Goss on his goal kicking rampage, for a small kid this guy really kicks bag fulls, shades of Mark LeCras in this fella.
Are St.Bedes the biggest waste of Talent out there? there team on paper reads very strong but just not getting the results. Ex Dragons captain playing for them aswell.
Will Beau step up in the finals/ will they make it. Last two spots will be hotly contested between Blues,Beau and Scotch. Heard beau just wanted it more on Saturday.
Who can shut down the danger men for De La. Humphrey in awsome form, clinch killing it, O'Connell starting to kick bags and Close as reliable as ever!

I think this year will be the tightest in years. I Cant fricken wait for finals!

just quietly, xavs like to play a pretty brand of uncontested football and do not like tackling pressure...therefore they will not go all the way

De La Salle almost certainty to win the premiership. The side is unbelievably good...with a full team, they are impossible to beat. Humphreys dominating and Barda chipping in with majors every week is tough to stop.
Ive observed a few premier games and one player that has caught my eye is Webber from beaumaris. Very light frame, which usually gives his opponent a false sense of confidence. He has kicked a few bags and is deceptively quick. Reads the game brilliantly.
Declan mitchell from camberwell is another player who has impressed me. is a quality player with skills on both feet and can pop up and kick a goal when needed.

Good post. Obviously De La are the team to beat, although i dont believe they are unbeatable... Humphrey seems to be the most damaging man for them this year although i like how O'Connell goes about his game, he has a bit of factor about him and if he could become really consistent he will go a long way to ensuring De La have a good crack at the flag.

Beauy Vs Uni Blues, i dont think anyone saw that coming, but certainly makes the season a lot more interesting.

Xavier vs Scotch this week will be a very big one and i am sure a lot of interest will form around the game. Sansom for Scotch has been in very good form and word on the street is that their tall ranga can be a handful. For Xavier young Bisset on the wing is improving every week and the midfield engine are dominating the stoppages. One key in for the last couple of weeks has been Woods who has slotted in superbly for Xavs. Goss down forward continuing to dominate, even with the amount of attention he has been copping. Will certainly be a big week in football.

St Bedes i think if they can get their team right could cause a few upsets come end of the year and Camberwell have showed glimpses. I think it is fair to say a team can be allowed an off week, maybe we just saw Uni Blues' but come the end of the year we will know the contenders and the pretenders...

This week should reveal where Old Xav's and Old Scotch are at when they face off against one another. Wuill head down to watch that one. How many did Goss from Old Xav's kick against De La? There defence is the benchmark with under 300 points scored against them in 7 rounds. Pretty sure Goss was well held against De La. Be interested to see if he can kick a bag against Old Scotch or whether they can also shut him down.

there is one and only reason why Goss wont be kicking to many goals against De La. T.Humphery.

T Humphrey = Goss's bread & butter.

T.Humphrey made goss look silly when they first played. resulting in Goss chasing kicks up the ground in the midfeild. One goal came from DLS being very un disciplined and goss was taken from the Half Back Line to the Goal Line (very contentious umpiring that day mind you) and Another goal off the ground. Was a bad day at the office for the Country Kid

Goss was well held in rd 4 but no one at De La under estimates his ability. He is a class act and it could be a different story next time they play.

de la although they rate him wont have sleepless nights over the thought goss. they will be more worried about Woods

After seein him play last yr, I wud 2. Absalute freak, plays at 6 ft 4 n is probably lucky 2 b 6. fukn athletic 2 i reckon.

de la wont b worried bout 1 playr tho wether it b goss or woods, killed xavs first time so shudnt b ne diffrent next time either.

As we approach the half way mark of the season lets lay it on the and make a call on the teams that can realistic have a shot at finals and winning the flag.

De La - If the form contiues should easily secure top spot and odds on for the flag
OS - Dont have any real superstars but have a got alot of depth
OX - If the superstar recruit comes then maybe there a shot but if not could fall short agin.
Beau - Danger team if last week was a predictor for the future, could push for a top 2 spot with such a large home ground and advantage
Uni Blues - For a team that is meant to be getting better as the season goes on they dont seem to be doing it.
OC - Have a few gun players but lack real depth round the ground to be a contender in this division.
OMS - Have such a home ground advantage playing on that shit small oval but struggle on large grounds and have lossed close games they should have won.
STB - Stiff Luck if u get their TAC/VFL players and are at least a 6 goal better team with them in but without them arent any special.
Marc - Similar to STB, when playing at home have a lot of school kids playing but away from home struggle to put a strong team together.
Uni Blacks - Are getting better and should sneek a cheeky win or two.

My final ladder prediction
De la
Beau
OX
OM
OS
Blues
OC
STB
Blacks
MARC

Agreed on the most part Rusty.
De La - look the goods, plenty of room for improvement - and plenty of players to return!
Beauy - yep - I reckon the second best side at this stage and always rate them in Sept
OX - soft but talented. Could beat anyone but 3rd for mine. Beauy harder and defend better.
OS 4th for mine. Therabouts but no real guns to lift them. OM's not quite strong enough. Good for first year though.
UB - ???? who knows now - not even uni holidays yet and looking shaky!
And the rest to follow in whatever order.

De La - Too far ahead already and won't slow down
Beauy - Very good at home and great tackling pressure
OX - Attractive football but not hard enough at it
OS - I don't know much about them but i'll just follow everyone else
OC - They are a good team and work hard for each other
OM - Don't care enough to do well
Blues - I think they'll drop off

Then there's the rest

Yeah I agree with boomer, possible swap of beauy & OX, De la's flag to loose! Ox my tip play off. Toss a coin for the rest of the top 4. beauy & OS just ahead of OC, Blues, St b's & OM in order. Bloody tight in the middle of table though. It's a season that may lack a little in class throughout all teams but is an unbleavably level comp, that is exciting and competitive. The VAFA should be comended on a brilliantly construted comptition. Looking forward to the rear of the season!

Best of luck to all players!

Cheers Nasi

Bit rough i reckon. No doubt the game against Beaumaris was terrible, and we didnt play well at all, but that was with roughly 10 players out including FB and CHB (and captain).

Beat Marcellin by 37 with plenty of injuries to key players.

What happened to the O.M's?

Everyones thoughts from the weekend?

Uni Blacks first win of the year. What is going on down at Old Melbournians? Do they have any good players?

De La - No suprises there. Humphrey again amongst the best, surely he would be close to a Premier debut?

Much hyped Xavs - Scotch game came down to 2 goals. the game could have been put away in the first half but 3 goals 10 to Xavier was the downfall. Nidam and Bisset again featuring in the best and Goss with another 6 and bog. Max Davis best on for scotch although Sansom was very good on the wing.

Uni Blues seem to be the team that is being heavily hit with injuries at the moment and is showing up the lack of depth, with a full team in though they will surely ruffle a few come end of the season.

I think O.M's just lack passion and drive to succeed, no stand out players really from my point of view, and I'm guessing they don't train at the level required.
