monash came close to maz but lost composure in the last quarter. they hav a very solid defense always dropping players back. a lot of tall timber which really stretched mazenods lack of height around the ground. but a lot of poor desicion making as well as squandering too many shots in front of goal cost them. also i think a few of their players enjoy few too many whoppers at HJ's and 100 minutes becomes a bit too much for them.

Yeah Monash have a lot of big tall boys running around, it is definatly the strongest aspect of their team. I see their inaccuracy really killed them against Maz, they had more scoring shots than Maz which is interesting. I think they passed their test to show that they can be a challenger come finals time.

perfect summary. was an evenly matched game up to 3 quarter time, both teams going pretty much goal for goal. but monash's height, which had stretched mazenod all game, ironically worked against them as mazenod's quicker players stretched them out in the last. good game to play.

also, monash no longer appear to be a dark horse.
dmx said it right. strong defence with strong marking bodies.
good, hard running tall men around the ground, basing themselves on the half forward and half back lines and finding their way around the ground.
solid midfield with a few quick players, but it's nothing special.
pretty good team really. but a major weakness is their tendency to kick to their fat winger, who can't run. their other sumo doesn't do much at all.

Still overated in my books....have yet to beat a decent team.
Big blokes will always overpower weaker sides like they have this year through intimidation. Mazenod had a few of their best out who were playing seniors (Kelly, Stanley and the like). What will they do if their seniors scrape in for finals? Will they play U/19's or 1sts?

Haileybury's Ben Hampton is out for 2 weeks, guilty of striking against prahan on the weekend. Any one got the story behind that one?
Also both Prahan-Caulfield and Mazenod were fined for a melee, Dxm, got any info on it?

Hehe. i can actually take the tag for being the reason for the mazenod one. had my head over the ball on the boundary line in front of pc's bench just before the 3rd quarter siren, and then got a running hip and shoulder to the face. woulda been a free kick if the siren hadnt gone, i was dirty haha. but anyway after i got up and my sight was restoring itself, our trainer starts screaming at me to get to our huddle. im thinking 'why?' cause i could see almost our entire huddle was already formed 30m away at our bench. then i turn around to see about 6 of our guys in the middle of 20 PC guys, right in front of their bench, their coach proudly smiling upon their "achievement". the umpires eventually dragged the little hyenas off our blokes, and we watched in disgust from our huddle as their coach went inside the rooms patting their guys on the back for "getting inside (our) heads".

Needless to say, they didn't get inside our heads. they just managed to piss the real men off, and we smashed em in the last quarter 6 goals to 2. i'd say PC have just come to a late-season realisation about how they can show their aggression. they're clearly immature and sick of getting beaten. it does hurt after a while, but i coach a lot of losing junior sports teams who play against bigger and stronger opposition, and recently i dragged my best player for a half for talking back to the ref twice. you gotta preach enjoyment out of the smallest achievements, like a basket by the kid who never scores, or 10 points by your best player (i coach basketball), and just ignore the 90-12 scoreline. the display by PC's coach and players was redundant and inconsequential. i challenge them to have a positive effect on a game by turning it into a good contest, like monash last weekend, rather than instigating childish stuff like that. PC, spend another couple years in MSJFL.

In regard to my reference to Monash, we played four quarters without a single tussle. Both teams respected the quality of their opponents and had their minds focused on the game, and it was a damn good game too. Muchos respect for Monash, zero respect for PC.

well said tabbos and i do completly agree with you, how ever can understand the p-c players frustrations. No body enjoys loosing and ultimatly your frustrations can boil over, it happens in footy everywhere. But for their coach to condone the action let alone encourage and praise them for it is unacceptable.

i was there i did not get involved in the tussle its childish stuff at this level. what the guy did altho dirty i could tell it was not malicious, although it would look like it from different angles. With Benny Hampton... all i can say about the guy is that he is a tip top bloke off the field, but sometimes on the field he is a dog. although when he played against mazenod he was definately not a dog and was actually helping his opponents up off the deck and a pat on the back and stuff. Gained a lot more respect for him.

ajax vs monash this week.. game of the round...

prediction- monash by 20 points,

ajax must win one of their remaining 3 games to ensure finals action. and after a loss here will mean they need to beat hampton at the boss.. in which hampton have not lost at home all year and then meet halieybury in the last round. could be hard ajax to make finals

Can anyone tell me why Hampton would have played Brad Trembath in the 19's when he's played seniors all year and can't qualify for finals. Did they need him to knock off the almighty Vultures and cement a finals spot ! FYI - he kicked 9 out of 15 goals last week

I can answer that for you champ. There's no agenda other than his form in the seniors had wavered to the point he was dropped. Given he's still eligible for under 17's, playing in the U/19's would give him a more realistic chance of regaining his spot with only 3 rounds remaining. You'll find that with the 19's having the bye he's playing in the reserves this week. Contrary to what you might want to believe, it is nothing more than a form issue.

that is fair effort from an under 17. how come he isnt getting a gig down at sandy?

he is not on sandy list. and he can play finals for the 19's if hamptons seniors are still in the finals. he kicked his 9 goals from the wing as well. with 5 coming in the 3rd term. handy pick up for the rovers coming into finals action.

hmmm yeah very handy... i don't know about being able to play finals though. They bumped it up to 6 games this year and playing seniors is different to say having an injury and being unable to play.

As long as we're in and he doesn't do enough to get his spot back, then I'm pretty sure the rules stipulate he'll be fine to play. It would only be if the senior side weren't to make the finals would he then be stiff to miss out. At this stage... very unlikely.

YES. the rover boys are goin very well arnt they uncle mick flahive.. and the 19's lead by LL Kewl K look like they might just go all the way... what are you thoughts on young hollywood and his team mates such as drunk schmita?? lol

monash proved themselves as a clear contender on the weekend making a 4th placed ajax look second class slow and reliant on to few players to do the hard work....
the ashes have stars on every line with the red headed robertson solid at full back beck quaterbacking from half back a good mix of class and in and under players in the middle with a dominant ruckman n a dangerous forward line including hicks n powell the way the worked 4 each other on saturday will have the hampton and maz boys worring about the boys from monash

Good teams dont really "worry" about anyone. Im sure Mazenod, Monash and Hampton are all just as equally aware of eachother. Neck up if you think Maz is worried about Monash after we accounted for them last week. Everyone knows Ajax are soft and arent contenders, you dont see Maz blokes coming on here talking up our win against a 2nd rate under manned St Bedes side yesterday. Get off your high horse and "worry" about how Monash will go against Maz and Hampton come finals time.

Take a win against Ajax with a pinch of salt.
Definatly not a team deserving of their top four spot and the ashers are going to have work a lot harder if they want to compete against a full strength Hampton or Mazenod, who currently, are a class above Monash.
Alot of good tall players for Monash is their definite strength, but around the contests they definatly are not as dominate as the top 2 sides.
