I thought a lot of AFL clubs at the moment only allow their players to pick numbers up to 50, with numbers higher than than being allocated to their VFL players.
Betcha if naicos or dangerfield wanted to wear 69 that rule would be changed.

Laura Kane is doing a pretty good job ….. she’s had a very clear message and been transparent throughout the year and deserves some praise for that

I hate the stand rule. It’s a blight on the game. Looks ugly and give the man on the mark no chance to be involved. Returning to the automatic play on once moving off the line is effective and makes the player with the ball responsible for their kick not just a free waltz away!

I think it’s been a pretty good year of footy. Better than previous seasons for sometime. Seems scores have improved with many weeks of majority games the winners hitting 100, heck even games where both sides are. There’s been countless close games decided by a kick and down to the wire and then a nice handful of draws to keep the excitement.

We whinge about the stand rule and 6,6,6 however I think we are seeing they are working.

Doesn’t seem a popular thought given there’s a whole thread towards how terrible the year is however every year we will complain about umpires, rules, MRO findings, fixture etc.

In terms of footy, I think it’s been a decent year so far.

I'm OK with the 6,6,6, and would actually like to see the 5,5,5, 15 aside implemented. One of the excellent reasons for the adoption of playing 5,5,5, 15 aside teams is that the Stand rule, which I despise, would not be needed in the more open 15 aside game. Win/Win!!

I don't like the stand rule at all, but I think 6,6,6 has been a rare success.

Hard agree on this one, coming into round 17, it was the first time in the history of the league that the team in 13th place had a positive win/loss record. So the standard of the "diluted talent pool" can't be that bad.

Queensland based teams should play night games away in Canberra, Ballarat and Launceston in July and August.
You probably thinking its 25-28 and 90% humidity right now up in qld huh. Was 2 degrees this morning at my place and 17. Our july and august is not warm by any means

Nah, I know it can cool down a bit in SE Qld, even occasionally hit zero in the GC hinterland.
But its not "feels like" in the negatives in early afternoon like Canberra yesterday, either.

I have no problems with games in canberra ballarat etc but as i say, for comfort of spectators and players, do more day games. Would probably help crowds in some instances ?!

And, yeah, I was being a bit facetious. I guess what's lost in crowds is made up for (as far as the league is concerned) with broadcast revenue. People are less likely to be going out for other reasons as well, so more likely to be in front of some device.
It is part of why Tas, ACT, Ballarat tend to get the early starts - as well as usually being low-demand broadcast games.

Having less night games in those periods (even Docklands, it doesn't get wet but its not really much warmer) does make some sense from a crowd perspective, to be honest. But media rights rule all else.

How would that work without Wednesday and Monday night games, and/or 10am Saturday/Sunday starts? Particularly with ten games a round presumably coming in a few years.
Thursday and Sunday night games would have to be a weekly thing, which I'm ok with from a purely TV viewing stand point.. attending the game not so much.

So, something like (eastern times):
Thursday night
Friday night
Saturday 12pm
Sat 2:40
Sat 5:20
Sat 8:00
Sun 12pm
Sun 2:40
Sun 5:20 (4:40 already smacks clubs finances)
Sun 8:00 (once a 20th team comes in)
?

That's a late finish for kids on the Sunday night, even just on TV. Assuming no game runs over 2hours, 40minutes.
Its a nice idea, but I'm not sure it would be practical - how many people try to watch every match every round?

(Personally I would prefer Thursday night scrapped and non-long-weekend rounds wrapped up before 5pm on Sunday - except when there's a Sunday game from Perth. But that's very much a personal preference and not a practical necessity, even if Thursday games do limit fixture flexibility if avoiding two day differences in breaks.)

Booing is the cringiest thing you can do at a game of football and I despise everyone who does it.

Dredging this one up from a couple of months ago, reminded me of an incident in the Collingwood v Geelong game last week, Jeremy Cameron took a strong mark on the lead on the 50m line, right on the boundary. Can't remember the Collingwood player who was defending the lead sorry, maybe Frampton? Anyway he went down and looked in a bit of discomfort, Cameron is pointing to him and waving for the trainers to get over to his opponent. The medical staff gets there, all seems okay, so Cameron starts his approach... BOOOOO!!!!!!

Sometimes you just have to chuckle at the dills who make up the match day attendance at an AFL game.
