Timber Falling GIF by ANTIQUES ROADSHOW | PBS

I remember time and again Arsenal looking timid and vulnerable at set pieces. All those long throw in from Delap back in the day against Stoke, we just couldn’t deal.

United practised defensive corners in their warm up today. That’s the reputation Arsenal have now. When Arsenal have a set piece, it brings the same heeby jeebies to other times. Even without the monster Gabriel, there’s so much aerial threat and danger, accompanied by brilliant delivery from Saka and Rice on either side.

How times have changed. This isn’t luck. Or coincidence. This is tactical planning and investment led by Jover that can be the all the difference between winning shit and not.

Gabi is a true leader. Absolutely love him, what a signing he has been.
He is always seen as the weaker of him and Saliba due to Willy’s composure and quality on the ball but he’s been as instrumental to our strong backline as his partner.

He has been instrumental, he's a strong, imposing, tough, fearless and vocal leader back there. Everything you want in a leader of the defence. He was the first defensive signing for the overhaul of our defence too, so I suppose he got to see the dissaray it was in before we overhauled it completely.

Really being the "weaker" option compared to Saliba is no insult at all, he's like an 8.5/10 defender compared to a 9.5/10 defender. Still one of the best CB's in the league, easily, but the other has a legitimate case for being the best CB on the planet.

Gabriel was there from the start of the Arteta “project”. He was one of the first major signings really, under Edu and Arteta. He was then also the first of the major contracts to renew, which Arsenal have managed extremely well and it’s coming back full circle now that it’s time to extend his contract again.

He’s been pivotal. The rashness/hot headedness has really been controlled out of his game, some costly moments a few years ago however instead now he just thumps headers into the back of the next.

The relationship with Saliba is next level, genuinely love seeing them give a shit as a defensive unit. They seems to relish the battles against the likes of Haaland, and Gyokeres recently. As a defensive group I also love seeing them fight for that clean sheet like their life depends on it, I’ll never tire of the goal like celebrations when they’ve made a key last ditch block to keep the opposition out.

Absolutely no slight and they complement each other extremely well. It’s almost akin to a Vidic and Ferdinand dynamic.

Ain't no other team I enjoy beating more than United.

Great way to start the day today.

Two points closer to Liverpool too which is great.
Growing up (I'm 44 now) seemed like everyone was a man U fan... 🤔 I do wonder how many games most of them actually watched. **** them.
