This is harsh. This is VERY harsh. I get the 'white folk are the best-positioned ethnicity to succeeed in the United States' viewpoint but to call anyone mired in, often generational, poverty a "failure as a person" is wrong in my opinion.

Speaking as an avowed left-winger these are the people who are meant to be our base. The right wing wins them over by speaking to their insecurities (why can't you get a job? IMMIGRATION!) and people without hope will look to anything.

We lefties need to achieve concrete solutions to help these people. To win them back in a post-manufacturing and service-based environment.

Also Americans will whinge and moan but so many of them don’t even bother to vote.

I don’t understand that at all.
Nobody will ever understand America. See Jon Stewart clip from today. It's all cyclical.

Great chance for the Democrats to reset and rebrand. Needs fresh talent..their time will come again. Today for them is like Hawthorn a few years back.
Time to delist all the old useless farts (like hawthorn did).

Probably think there's no point voting. They've become so disillusioned by the system, they truly believe that their voice / their say won't make a whit of difference, so why even bother trying.

One of the 'quirks' of the U.S electoral process is that they conduct their election on a Tuesday. No weekends. No public holiday. The U.S voter must give up a day of employment.

And voting is not compulsory.

Buttigieg fits well there. But there's no way the seppos are voting for a gay man.

Adam Carolla talked about when he was on The Apprentice in 2012 where Arsenio Hall and Clay Aitken were the last two finalists.

He made the point if Trump is as racist or homophobic as people make out then he would have picked two straight white finalists.

That being said Trump wasn't picking Arsenio Hall or Clay Aitken as his celebrity endorsements or someone like Buttigieg as his VC

That probably wouldn't have played well with his supporters base.
