Our worst game since round 1. We lost nearly every stoppage and only lost by 22. Can't wait to next season. Get grimes, Vickery, foley back. More games into post, astbury and Elton and a big draft. Hope to see Browne and arnot next year also

Let's not kid ourselves this loss was more about us being hopeless than it was about Freo being too good. Players under no pressure hand balling at the feet or over the head, shocking decision making for delivery inside 50, ignoring simple handballs and running straight into opposition players, dropping simple marks, constant fumbling and horrible kicking. Players and coaches should be absolutely filthy with that performance, our worst overall game of the year in my book. Completely bottled it IMO, worst coaching performance of the year to go with it.

-agree with most of this re skills although alot of it was under pressure which is freo's game style. it up to us to get out in the open more.
-having only 1 real kpf really hurts as there is no real target coming out of d50.most clubs have at least 2 and 3.
-on coaching, i dont subscribe to the 'outcoached' theory. you can have all the best plans but if the players cant do it or adhere to it then its worthless.also if you cant win the ball first then plan a to z wont work.we have badly felt the loss of foley in this area.

Real concern out of that game, is how often our guys get out marked in contested situations all over the ground.
Yes - been a major concern for a while. More noticeable this year I think because our two best contested marks Riewoldt & and even Lids haven't been pulling 'em down as much and it's drawn attention to how few good contested marks we have. It's one thing Post has over the majority of the team. Tuck & Maric are the only other two who at least semi-regularly look to be in with a show in a marking contest.

Was a large Richmond contingent at the game today, great support for the Tiges!
I posted angry last night and let a small minority of yesterday's crowd get to me. I shouldn't have lmped everyone in the same category. The overwhelming majority of the crowd were terrififc. Just a couple of sections were pretty ordinary and one guy behind me in particular who eventually shut up once confronted by about half a dozen people in the last quarter. But as I said, the great majority of yesterday's crowd was fantastic.
Perth as a city is absolutely stunning. I have been fortunate enough to travel all over the world and I still love coming to Perth.
There was a good showing from the Richmond faithful and the atmosphere was great. There are a good share of idiots at Richmond home games too I should add.
Hope Freo make finals and keep Essendon and Carlton out.

To many basic footy errors and brain fades still come in and out our games to often and it's the experienced guys to.McGuane,White,Rance,Newman,Jackson,Nahas and Martin etc.Killed us with stupid kicks and turnovers and trying to do to much.Martin needs a rocket has played 1 decent games since his suspension.Killed us with turnovers and poor decsions and escapes critism way to often. At times we go to Jack when we see his got 2 players on him and no hope just for the footy to rebound right away.Forward pressure was also poor.

I learned that Chris Scott was right. So many pole smokers who go to the footy in Perth, it is actually quite unbelievable.

Im not sure where you were sitting, but there was a bunch of freo supporters up the back of block 341 - started a two man Freeeeooooooo chat midway through the last. After about 10 minutes of constant baiting, a tiger went close to belting him - didnt hear the chant again...Not sure what he expected given he was surrounded by tigers?!

Post game function was good, caught up with an old manager of mine and was good to hear Flea, the goast, and Mickey Mitchell have a yarn :thumbsu:

I was one row behind him. The person that confronted him was me and two other guys as well.
That knob was a once-a-year corporate w***er. I am not a violent or aggressive person, but i couldn't sit and take it any longer. He was actually doing it all game. Enough was enough.

With the beard? nice work, there was no shortage of re-enforcements waiting for an oppertunity to jump in if things flared up! I thought they were corporates - must be garbologists or something if they are the tickets they get through work?!

No that wasn't me. I was one of the reinforcements. I told him to shut up, enjoy the win, that Freo had been the better side and to focus his energy on supporting his side rather than baiting and spoiling for a fight. Did yiu hear him tell the kids in ront in the 2nd quarter to sit down and say "do you want a piece of me?" to them? I made it clear to him that he could have a piece of me instead.

Yeah genuine 1st rate tosser

Smashed in the clearances and contested possession which you'd expect given the age and experience difference. You could also see a massive difference in the mental application of both sides. I'm sure our blokes wanted to win, but they needed to win, as well as wanting to. Big difference.

It's becoming more and more apparent to me that if the opposition fullback has even half-decent leg speed Reiwoldt invariably has a poor game. Not his fault he's a tad slow, but shouldn't the Coach consider some sort of plan B?

ok...here it goes. It's obvious that we have a handful of players who are inconsistent. The reason they are inconsistent is that they get found out when playing a somewhat quality team that puts the pressure on.
I think we all know who they are and they have been well debated here for the last 6 -7 years...the equation for us to go the next step is upgrades on these players that can execute under pressure..instead of doing a, and we can call it this now, a "McGuane" twice..etc...
What I cant understand is that watching the game, all the commentators were just piling on the crap on the tigers and hailing the professional unit that Freo was...but the score suggests otherwise...once we upgrade the known deficiencies...we will give them wind burn going past them on the ladder...

Unfortunately Jack only had McGuane for help and we all saw how that worked. Miller has retired and Vickery is injured. This is why I desperately want Chaplin to free up Griffiths to go forward. That is if Griff can ever string a few games together withiut hurting himself.

well said

never thought we would make finals this year...but will admit we were in lots of winning positions and ****ed them up...still will be happy to beat the bummers and finish with 11 wins....

as you say upgrade a few with draft/trading and hope like hell that no major injuries and grimes and foley play 22 games ....a good draw and we are finals bound

about ****ing time....can not wait

DH seemed to be pretty annoyed in the presser with the late inclusion of Sandilands. I haven't seen anything else on this as overseas. What was the go here, why did it get up DH's skirt?

cheers,

Seemed to me Sandi was out. Reports were he would play seconds. He was then brought in at the match warm up, not long before the start of the game. This is my understanding CeltDave. Anyone want to add anything ??

full credit to Freo who really shut us down. They were well drilled and disciplined and never gave us a real sniff of victory. Really struggled to get the ball anywhere with their press and high pressure game all over the ground. Really crying out for a more functional forward line, with a big CHF the highest priority and a lead up medium forward who can mark the ball would be a great inclusion also. Wish we could turn back the clock and get Richo and Browny in their prime back into the team!

Griffin was injured just before the game. Sandilands was an emergency so it was all above board (unless Griffin was not actually injured).

Ross isn't happy. Dimma getting a bit excuse happy recently. He's named as an emergency these things happen. Freo's gameplan stuffed us.

Noticed this. Dimma should asking himself why again he failed to combat Freo's gameplan when it was a carbon copy of last time we played them instead of whinging about Sandilands. He was an emg anyways, if you're not prepared for him to come in then it just reflects badly on you as a coach.

I thought we played as well as Freo allowed us to play. Yes our goals were scrappy but every side that has played Freo since they beat us the first time has had the same issues. Lets not forget they belted the Eagles 2 weeks back by plenty and they are a better side than us.

The problem with us at the moment is many of our players are still learning what to do and when to do it. Often when we need to put the foot down we slow up, and vice versa. Which is what got us in trouble tonight. When the Dockers closed things up our guys just didn't know whether they should attack them or chip it around. Hopefully over summer we work on that so that next year our players just act on instinct rather than looking like deers in headlights.

You are absolutely kidding yourself if you thought we were anywhere near in that game. Fremantle absolutely dominated us and the only reason they didn't give us our first flogging of the year is due to their innacuracy in front of goal. The scoring shots show the true story.

In terms of the players we were missing, Fremantle were also missing several players too, including Morabito which we can place into the Foley category. We were outcoached, lack of depth was exposed, and our uncontested gameplan does not match highly defensive gameplans which force you to play their way no matter what. We have a lot of work to do.

I still maintain my view that barring injury we were good enough to make finals however even at full strength Freo will have the wood on us at their home turf at this stage.
