Autopsy V Freo

Noticed this. Dimma should asking himself why again he failed to combat Freo's gameplan when it was a carbon copy of last time we played them instead of whinging about Sandilands. He was an emg anyways, if you're not prepared for him to come in then it just reflects badly on you as a coach.

Barnzy you are right on the money. We are consistantly showed up by teams that play a highly defensive and uncompramised style of game that force you to play their way. We should of been smashed yesterday, look at the scoring shots. I don't think our current uncontested style of game will hold up in finals at all, teams like Sydney and Fremantle will take the spoils.

It's becoming more and more apparent to me that if the opposition fullback has even half-decent leg speed Reiwoldt invariably has a poor game. Not his fault he's a tad slow, but shouldn't the Coach consider some sort of plan B?

i think the lack of a preseason has hampered jack quite alot. hope he gets a full 1 in with plenty of sprints.

I am for turning the heat up on our coaching panel. Why is it that they do not have game plans that become flexible going with the demands of the opposition at given times? Hardwick and Co are continually shown up when you come up against a Freo.....to say it is players is a cop out, we need to have coaches drilling them in given situations according to flexible demands......thats what we pay them for. I have some faith in Hardwick for sure but he needs a mentor and some nous in there to apply given situations.

hello, a month ago i came in here and put forward an argument that you guys wouldn't make finals but was flamed and quite frankly kicked out of the thread.

now i haven't watched a richmond game in the last three weeks but you guys had an "easy draw" as you put it. this is not a troll but im just wondering what happened in the last three weeks that will see you guys finish roughly 11-12th?

honest question, i would like to know what changed. there's only two games left for the end of the year and finals are out of the question. was it just players playing badly?

imo we lack inside mids badly to add to rotations. bc of this no matter what game style you play v the opp if you cant win the ball its moot.

i certainly wouldnt have said we would make finals. we have around 8 list cloggers to eliminate before we can play 22 rounds of finals footy. i would also add our team is very immature and this is natural progression.

Constantly changing your game plan, and having plan a, b c and ds is what Terry Wallace brought to the table, and it was a major factor as to why the team under Wallace had absolutely no idea what game plan they were playing week to week.

I thought we did ok in patches but skill errors really hurt us at times (as did some questionable umpiring as well). Freo were more or less always in control unfortunately and once they got that press/zone in place, we struggled moving the ball past half back and when we did, we would lack numbers up the ground.

The loss kills off the season officially but I'd still like to finish with wins over the bummers and port. Hopefully we can get some positives from some of the younger developing players like Post, Helbig, Griff (hope he is ok) and O'Hanlon.

Positives I saw:
  • 2 great goals from Lids.
  • Cotchin leading by example again.
  • Solid games from Post and Helbig.
  • White's running goal from around the half way mark.
  • Fairly competitive effort by the boys after Griff went down and with fewer rotations in tough, warm conditions.
  • Brett O'Hanlon snaring his first goal - hopefully first of many!
  • Morris playing his role and setting the example of how to put your body on the line.
  • DM coming into the game after a very quiet start. He worked his way into it and I think he even had 7-9 touches in 1 quarter? Good for his development.
  • King's 3 goals, I had some concerns after his injury plagued year but his games and goals last week and yesterday really show what he brings to the side.
  • McGuane's comedy of errors - particularly the one he fumbled and kicked into the goal post (game was iced at that stage but had to laugh). Add some Benny Hill music and get that on Youtube :D
Also, Premier league is back and my mob kicked off the year with a win - salvages my weekend a bit!

Thanks CB17. I'm here. Just more of a reader than a poster these days. We need to see you on the road next year.

Haere Ra

Yeah, will be interesting. May have a job that enables that sort of thing next season, but then i may be getting back into coaching as well. I dunno if i could keep up with some of you fellas. Good to see you post again. Miss ya big guy.:p:hearts:

Can we kick you out of this thread too?

dumb post. im just asking what happened in the last 3 weeks, i haven't seen a richmond game in that time.

Then why the interest? You are in finals, you are awesome, we are not. Is that what you were looking for? If you wanna troll us, plenty of threads on the main board doing it. This is our board, so a little respect pls

no im not trolling (this is what im trying to get across) and no west coast are not awesome, this isnt our year and we'll go out first week or finals. i just wanted to know if it was the coaching or the players or something else for the last 3 weeks.

Firstly we won two of our three games in the last three weeks. Best Brisbane in Brisbane, and smashed the dogs. No surprises there give where the three sides are.

What you are alluding to is our earlier losses against GC, Carlton, and Kangas. In all three games we went in with compromised structures due to key outs, not in terms of our gun players, but those important to our structures. This didn't cause these losses though, it was just young kids being inconsistent and lacking the confidence to back themselves, and our handful of senior players being unable to get them to stick to plan when things waver.

Freo was always a tough one. We only have one ruck, and our backline is missing a couple of key players, and this is where we set up our attacks. Added to this the fact Freo are getting some form, Not a great day at the office.

We got sucked into their game plan, not as badly as West Coast did the other week, but they allowed us to switch play across half back and pushed their players back, it forced us to chip around and either stuff up with a poor kick ala richmond of old, or just go to a contest and with Riewoldt not leading (think i saw him have about 4 correct leads) and McGuane just being a muppet it cost us. We only got goals from the quick turn over which should have shown what happens if we get it on the boot quickly.

Kickins were terrible, the same thing the whole day, Freo just had to look which side Maric was on to see our plan.

hows vickery and jayden post going? i think it was vickery that someone suggested would be used as trade bait?

Vickery is out with shoulder surgery, been injured all season. Doubt we will trade, he's our only second rcuk, is earmarked to take over from Maric once he's a bigger boy, and would be sold at a discount (due to the injuries)

Lots of debate about Post. He has got back into the side, and had a mix of decent, serviceable, and woeful games. Sme rumours are that he is gone at seasons end, but I suspect personally it will depend upon how many others we clear out.

In the last three weeks we've beaten the Lions by 48, Dogs by 70, and got beat by Freo in Freo by 22.

does game plans include dropping mcguane who coughed up 2 gettable goals?
players ought to cop some responsibility, theyre on the field not the assistant coaches

I'd put it up there as one of our worst two losses for the year. It could have been very ugly.

Again our lack of depth has been exposed as well as a bit of a green coaching panel.

I agree with Cairo. I think Dimma is going ok but I'd love to see an experienced coach assisting in some way. Preferably a good strategist.

If we didnt fluff our ball handling, with the usual suspects failing to execute good crisp ball handling and movement, we would have ****ed them over in the first quarter and all this shit about Lyon's game plan would not be an issue. Dimma's game plan is ok, its a handful in the team that fail to deliver the required skill level that is the problem. Lyon's game plan works on teams that have holes in the skill level and we were lambs to the slaughter in that dept..

Agree in that sort of pressure style game our lack of skills were highlighted in the running gameplan.
Need a longer kicking gameplanB vs Lyon but dont have the marking options.

The year is fast heading towards disapointing from a number of points. Clearly out coached again unable to combat tight defensive game plan, there’s no point crying because Sanderlands played. Besides hasn’t there been stats that show other side rove to Sandy and Freo lose the clearances count? We are still carrying player as our depth is not there yet, I would be disappointed if any less than 10 players are not cut at years end.
