Don't want to distract from the footy too much, but can anyone with experience shed some light as to whether BIG V Ireland tourists have to contribute anything to the trip. Or is fully funded?

Squad of 25
Knowing the VAFA would be at least that many of "support and management" plus a couple of execs?

2 week tour. I'm no travel agent but say at best 40 travelers.

Return flights est $2,000 = $80k
Accom 14 nights ($150pn) = $84k
Food and travel around UK = $40k

Very rough numbers for sure but could easily get to a $200k spend for 3 games.

Can anyone justify this in any way?

I wil be happily corrected if it is that all participants find their own trip.

Just a query

I understand that the players pay their own way but that the costs are subsidised by the VAFA – i.e. by club affiliation fees. A number of VAFA officials tag along and I am sure they are not paying full freight.

In my view it is an unnecessary and costly rort available to very few people. Unless it is completely cost neutral, which I don't believe is the case, it should be scrapped as surely there are bigger priorities.

If you dont want to distract why ask the question here?

Fair point, and hence making "too much". Also on this board as I'd imagine the bulk of players would be made up from the A Grade ranks.

Was more of interest, and does anyone outside headquarters share that interest.

Thanks for your reply though.

Taken one of our boys. He's actually an Under 19, but played seniors the majority of the year.

Has the squad been announced.

Fair enough - it's just that this and other head office complaints/questions are things that are raised here that wont be solved here. Probably not enough traffic to justify, but maybe the mods can open a separate thread to deal with complaints/inquiries, etc around the VAFA?

FWIW, I would rather see something like a rep trip up to the NT. Might actually do some good. Could never happen under Shol as his fair skin has copped too much sun playing cricket, but maybe the new guy is a chance?

Totally agree , there would be more benefit in that .

It wouldn't be a bad idea if the VAFA sent a combined representative team made up of players from Premier-Division 4, to the NT during October instead of Ireland.

A possible tour fixture could look like this:

Match 1: VAFA v Tiwi Islands premiers
Match 2: VAFA v NTFL premiers
Match 3: VAFA v NT All Stars

Not a bad draw jase except the ntfl would only be kicking off so i assume you meant the previous season ntfl premier? (Or may as well just say st mary's - they win it every other year anyway!)

I know this off topic but just on that who won the NTFL flag last year?

Listened to the second half on inner fm. The bias of Kanis and Fitzy(seriously?) was more than apparent. Once the result was foregone it sounded like two blokes at a funeral. Not a Catholic one.

Skobs doing everything right.

Probably thought Uni got the rough end of the stick from the umpires as well!

Watched the replay on VAFA TV, commentary a farce, unless they get some unbiased replacements for the GF the commentary will be irrelevant.

Was fortunate to be able to make the game yesterday. Certainly enjoyed the day at Sandy (very limited wind, beautiful ground and even a little sunshine).

Observations from a bias SKOB man.

1) SKOB were the better side for the majority of the day. Won the one on ones and the contested ball.
2) Had S Salopek played in the other jumper the results may have been different. He was an absolute star yesterday. Clearly the best player on the ground in my opinion. Clean and great decision making. Sure pair of hands.
3) Blues would / should be confident a few adjustment would put them right in it. Looked super dangerous when they got it deep.
4) The inconsistency in the holding the ball interpretation was maddening. Uni players got caught red hot a couple of times in the back 50 and nothing was called...the same situation was paid when caught in the middle of the ground. (Umps had limited impact and Im sure Uni had plenty to complain about too).
5) Tom Jok took the game to different levels when he got involved ... particularly when he choose to run with the ball.
6) Injuries might be a worry for SKOB. Looked like a few went down yesterday. Did they have a bench at the end of play? Uni looked to suffered at least one injury as well.
7) Very much enjoyed not being the person on the end of Pluggers tackle in the 1st qrt
8) Shannon Grant is a very calm and composed fellow. I missed the fire up speech at 3 qrt time
9) The crowd seemed to be pro SKOB. Probably a much more historic day for the tri colours considering Uni's Premier Section history.
10) GF looks to be another tight and tense affair.

As expected, an excellent summary from the keen observer. Even more interesting that AM liked it-he just cant resist! The only thing I think you missed MIO was that Uni kicked dead straight early to keep them in the game ( was it 7.1 at one stage?) including a couple of gems from the carpark from Geoppon, whilst skob missed some sitters

Too kind. Yes. Blues kicked well at the beginning of the match. Good kicking is good football.
