Another exciting weekend of brilliant Ammos footy. The Gazman. Wow.
Latest Hippbet Market:

Blues $2.55 - There has been some big money placed on the Parkvillian Picketeers of the Blue variety in recent weeks. Particularly after their thumping of the X-Men.

SkobAFL $2.95 - Will have to do it the hard way with 3 finals victories. But they know how to get it done. Waite, Big Mitch, Straussy were all hired for this purpose. In September the AFL lads know how to manage the big stage.

Claret & Stout $4.00 - this weeks big win seems to have them back on track and ready to give things a big shake.

Purples $15.00 - Likely to finish fourth, but can’t see them winning 3 finals. They started the season very depleted and just haven’t been able to get the right team consistently playing together. Would be a fairytale for the runners up of past 2 GF’s.

Brighton $40.00 - Can sneak into 4th. Can’t win GF.

Gazmen $80.00 - very unlikely to play finals. But what a win on Saturday.

Cheers Hipp.

Assuming that the Blues beat Trinity next week and the Purples at home roll the Bellers..what a round 18 relegation battle we will have on our hands.
De La at home to the Hedgeburners.
Feels like a 60/40 battle to me in De La’s favour.
Despite not being able to grab a cheeky ice cream across the road anymore, the Hipp can’t wait for this one and will be there will ‘bells’ on..

Captain cranky here.....with 9 afl players blues have done that much hiring they have their own HR department and superannuation scheme!

Surely the VAFA could’ve continued its long standing partnership with 96.5 Inner FM if they had arranged a deal for Inner FM to simulcast its games on the Carnival digital station and also VAFATV, instead of breaking up its 20+ year partnership which has served both bodies well for so long.

The current radio broadcast is appalling. The commentary doesnt flow, they give no indication as to where the ball is on the ground.
Score updates to their game are few and far between. They assume the listener knows what player plays for which team..You dont hear "Jones from OM's has taken the ball on their half forward flank" etc.
No empathy or feeling for the game. More in house gossip between commentators inflating their own ego's.....Not good enough....

Let's bring back dithering old Ken Petrucco, who is 20 years passed his use by date, or even worse, John 'Uni Blues' Kanis. I do however miss Jo Watten, she should be on the Carnival coverage, make it happen Joey!

Like all new age Commentators of today...they think they are bigger than the game itself....its a pity.

XAVAFL won't be happy with those odds hipp.

They're gone out and hired 45+ points of resource and are only sitting 3rd favorite...? Questions will be asked!

I’m sure they will cope Chazz. They seem a fairly resilient group.
I’m hearing they are running around with about 18 x 1 pointers most weeks.
It’s like a school reunion most games.
Change rooms chock full of old school blazers..

When you've done as much for the promotion of amateur football as that life member get back to us D Vince. At a time when no one else wanted to know VAFA football he stood-up and was the power behind Inner FM providing a very good coverage. Particularly as it is a community radio station and it was at a cost. In recent years he's very much taken a lesser broadcasting role.

I know you preferred your mate who worked the now defunct - thank goodness - Southern FM fiasco and who spent the first half of the program telling us how much piss he'd drunk the night before.

I have a lot of pick-ups and drop-offs on Saturday mornings and I miss the morning Inner FM program which unlike the present set-up - that is very much Premier centric - gave ample time to all sections.

The plus for RSN taking over is the much better transmission coverage and from my brief exposure to the calling that has improved as the year has gone on. On the negative side there is too much undergrad humour in the podcast and pre-match for my liking. Also, -careful not to use a conjunction to begin in order not to offend OTP's sensibilities:p - it is too Premier centric.

One point of agreement is that Scatters is a good ammo person whose program is well worth a listen.

Perhaps this conversation is best suited to the General Discussion thread.

Stevo, Benny and me and later Macca and me put our heart and soul into the 88.3 show, in fact we kept the VAFA relevant when no one would even give us line space in the papers. What have you ever done other than criticise on this forum?

Good on the young blokes taking over, we had our time.

A tad rich calling me out for criticism when my post was also rich in compliments. Compared to the post of yours which was replete with put downs. Pot, kettle, black.

I would have let it go through to the keeper had it not been for the cheap shot directed at Ken who from my experience is a much loved character around the traps and one who has done a sterling job over many years putting the VAFA in a good light in the process.

Heard very little of the Southern FM footy program in Benny's time and I never quite understood why Macca got so involved. As for the show, the hosts regarded it as a badge of honour to have done no research. It pretty much consisted of 15 or so minutes of largely idle chit chat often including the amount of alcohol consumed the previous day or week. Then reading the scores. Scores that were readily accessible in the tissues. In fairness to Macca he did often attempt to straighten things up on the shows I endured. When the show did have a crack at feedback/competitions the response was often nil.

Inner FM produced weekly game day calls with very good callers for the most part - one of whom RSN has picked-up. The pre-game, half time and post game discussions included interviews with administrators, players and other movers-n-shakers as well as an analysis of the game. In addition to regularly updating scores during the call which generally included all the grades.

On Saturday morning there was a 2 hour program that not only covered commentary about the games of the day but included interviews with many of the movers-n-shakers as well as some talk back. The latter not always going to plan.

Inner FM also covered the comp B & F awards and devoted a segment to VAFA footy during the week.

Note the difference.

Don't get to hear Scatters that much but the feedback I get is that his show is informative and well presented too. Scatters often added his humour and expertise to the Inner FM team as well.

As for RSN. They are following in the footsteps of Inner FM in many respects. It's early days. From the brief chances I've had to listen the calling has improved significantly as you'd expect as they gain confidence. The addition of Petchy from the Inner FM team has been a real plus. They also have the advantage of far greater transmission reach.

FWIW it is the Blues to lose, but it is a lot of fun doing a max player cap scenario - Melbourne Uni Statistics Faculty earning their money. I am sure it will all balance out in the end and we will all be Green with envy.

Players might be resilient. 5 senior coaches in 4 years though?

Recruiting department can't do any more!
