Am I just dreaming sweet dreams or did I really hear that Varcoe was a possible trade? What's the word on him?

Travis Varcoe is now officially on the trade table!
Sorry to intrude.

Would you consider a swap with Ricky Henderson or need more than that? Noting the risk with Varcoe's recent injury history.

Rumour is that Hendo is looking for a shift to Vic for family reasons. I believe his family are from trentham(?) and he grew up a Geelong fan.

Varcoe is from Adelaide.

Would do that

People have gone off Trav, even 6x sponsors like you.
Can he get himself FIT enough to be the factor we hope for?

Just think Bundy, Caddy, Smedts, Murdoch and Mots have now taken his place

I am comfortable with moving Varcoe on for the right price. Has not been the same player for a while, whether due to lack of effort I'm not sure. Only the club and those on the inner would know about that.

I'm hoping it's the wake-up call he might need, like SJ 7 years ago.

Certainly think something needs to change for him. He lacked a consistency of any spark upon return.
I personally think the club is doing him a favour to show him his options.
Yes he has had injuries, but I sense he lost a bit of overall motivation this season.

I guess there are a couple of sides with a lot of picks left over to trade too who could use a bloke like Trav who has played in a lot of finals over the years. Sometimes a fresh start is a win/win scenario.

If Trav ends up staying, I hope this process has the desired positive impact mentioned above.
If SJ can be shopped around similarly once, well then not too many players are immune from this.

The best bit is, he's very easily replaced.

Except he's actually not, whatever Jon Ralph says about Mathew Stokes being a fast linebreaker. The only player at the club with the same combination of elite disposal by foot, speed and endurance is (maybe) Motlop. Varcoe's output was inadequate this season but Murdoch has done little to suggest he's an adequate replacement either.

Clearly run out of patience with Varcoe and not for his onfield performances, as I have alluded to all year. He will want a move home. Port would be a good move for Travis, Hinkley might be just the man to get him back on track. I hope this one goes through for both parties sake. I don't expect we'll get what he is worth.

Freeing up the salary positions us for Heath Shaw.

Travis to PA is a good option. Even if we pick up a second round pick for him as we might end up trading our 1st round pick in a player deal. People have openly bagged me on this forum for suggesting Travis should be traded while he still has some currency. The fact the club is seriously looking at it exonerates my position.

I should say I don't mind if he stays but the drafting/trading landscape has changed greatly and more and more you'll see clubs handing over good players to get better ones into the club. The days of holding onto players forever are gone, unless they are stars.

AFL is going to become like other sports where trading players is done easily and often.

We need a good pick for Varcoe I think the main suitors would be :

Carlton
Collingwood
GWS
Richmond

If we could get a first rounder even if we have to bundle extra or swap one of our other picks ?

2 picks in first round get two inside mids
Then CHB

This must also free up some additional $$$$$$$$

If it was purely a football decision they would not be considering trading Varcoe. We saw with their bizarre insistence in playing him despite his struggles they love him as a player. Added to this, he is the age bracket we desperately need and he is coming off a poor season so his value is low.

Sorry for those who have seen me post this before but I will post again.

There are three issues. Last Christmas he returned late to training after the break and almost quit (not in the press but was true). Second, his preparation and lifestyle decisions have not been adequate for a professional athlete. Thirdly, Geelong signed him to a very large contract after 2011 and have realised they are not getting value for money.

That the story is in the press and they are offering him makes me think they have made the call to cut their losses.

A very sad story for Geelong fans. More upsetting than Chapman really, because we never saw the best of Varcoe and he was such a joy to watch at his best.

If Trav is traded his last act for the cats being missing that goal in the dying seconds of the prelim... it would almost be appropriate, almost but just not quite getting what we hoped for

HS is reporting that Adams will either end up at Collingwood or Geelong highly unlikely to be @ GWS in 2014

if we could trade Varcoe to Port for 1st rounder or mid 2nd Round and on-trade that to GWS could we package our 1st rounder and that pick to get Adams......or are we paying overs for the kid

Think that would be way overs, the equivalent of 2 x 1st rd picks.

That would be overs. Varcoe by himself would do it (it could be argued that is overs itself) but if we were to trade him for Port's first rounder that would be enough.
