I do wonder about our rookies.
I would think that they will persist with Delvine now that he has finally manged to get on the track, even though he did a hammy in his 2nd game. He is a tall young defender and it is not like we have an abundance of them. And I thought that the Little Master showed some good signs later in the year. He looks a lively small player. I don't know if Luxford is one of those special rookies who gets a three year deal. And we need to keep in mind that we have already lost one rookie to retirement in James Toohey.

I wouldn't be too concerned as they are just last in pecking order. They're backups of backups at best.

Delvine was a senior listed player at Norf but was delisited by Norf due to injury with the intention of picking him up as a rookie. Geelong beat Norf to the punch. He is young at only 23 years old and if he can get over his injury woes could be a very handy player @194cm and 91Kgs.

I think they'll all sign on other than Walker and Jansen, we cant afford to loose 10 players with 3 incoming and late picks in the National Draft.

Yes, he's definitely more than just a back-up, if he stays fit. Luxford clearly showed promise in his 1sts games, too.

Could be the next NAHAS!

Does it annoy others as much as me that the club often doesn't put contract lengths in these announcements? No other club seems to do it either.

Annoys me too. However, it's ameliorated by the happiness in seeing Josh get a contract extension. Go Josh!:)

You'd think one extensions btw.

Two have been mentioned in terms of trade (Walker- Carnton and Jansen-Wastebin). I have yet to hear Kersten's name linked to another club but the absence of a contract is suspicious. I actually think he might re-sign as he seems to get games when he's fit and healthy, doesn't he?

Of course, we don't know whose decision it is that he hasn't yet re-signed - his, or the club's, or both.

I know what you mean. I don't rate Smedts either but GFC sees something in him too.
See him as better than pick 134 in the draft. We are picking late this year and likely next. These guys are at a lucky time, and for us the fans, they are like our lottery tickets. The 'but if they come good' that likely doesn't but let's us dream.

Good analogy. The problem being of course that the "if they come good" philosophy isn't exactly a sound way to build a premiership list.

No it isn't. If we get the expected amount of luck with injuries, and these marginal players, I can see us collapsing as easily as going the other way.

The Cats are as valid a target for incredible pessimism when you look at the risks and holes on the list, as they are for the ultimate optimism when you look at what 'could' be.

Yeah, that's fair enough. I don't call it pessimism, I call it realism. Chronically injured players are not all going to come good. Most are still to prove themselves at the top level. Trusting that all these players are going to be regular senior players, well let's wait and see.
